Villa Serena is a great place for anyone to call home for they're vacation time in Mazatlan, Mexico! Beautiful apartments with lots of friendly people that stay there! You will not be disappointed if you book this place for your holidays!

We booked Villa Serena for our children for Christmas time with owner Andrea & she was beyond helpful & friendly!

We just returned from our second annual stay at Villa Serena.  Last year 2017 it was five weeks, this year (2018) nine weeks!!  FABULOUS.........And  next year (2019) for 12 weeks!! (We are already booked and confirmed). The layout, facilities and our wonderful daily caretaker (Marie) and the very fair owner (Andrea) are all excellent.  Any complaints or requests are dealt with immediately....  our one complaint this year was a broken toaster.....replaced within half an hour!! When you open your eyes in the morning you know immediately that you are NOT in a Holiday Inn or such like.  Very Mexican, warm and comfortable. Great location to all that Centro Historico has to offer.  I could go "on and on" but I think people will get my message......roll on 2019!!!

OUR SECOND HOME...

If you are looking for a real experience in Mazatlán, with excellent location, restaurants and history and not the false touristic prefabricated all the same experience, stay at villa Serena at downtown. Close to the heart of Mazatlán, where excellent restaurants, coffee places and bars are located at walking distance.  

Excellent place to stay in downtown mazatlan

My husband and I are just finishing up our first five week vacation to this great little villa!!  It was everything we thought it was going to be..AND MORE.  The people were so friendly and helpful, always a smile and a laugh.  Happy hour each evening between 4:30/7:00 (more or less).  Andrea was a delight to deal with and Marie who was there every day was helpful and could answer ANY questions that you had!!  Our apartment was clean and comfortable (well maybe the couch was a little hard).  Brand new king bed, new stove and fridge.  Washing machine facilities with lots of fresh air, sunshine and hanging lines to dry your clothes.  Three separate decks for sunbathing and the small pool was delightful.  Always clean and refreshing.  We have just booked for two months for next year (2018) and have chosen one if the older apartments on the ground floor (right beside the pool).  Very "Mexicana".  Looking forward to exploring more of Mazatlan next year......thank you Bonnie (you know who you are!!!)

FANTASTIC FIVE WEEKS!!

Great location with fantastic, helpful and friendly staff.
The apartments are basic but clean. Some offer little privacy due to the closeness of neighbours.
Mainly an overwintering place for old gringos.
Small, unheated pool.
Nice patios, some with views.
Recommend.

Nice accommodation in downtown

I spent 3 months this past year(October,November and December)at the Villa Serena in the centro historico neighborhood of Mazatlan.I stayed in 2 different studios,but both were spacious and fully equipped with all necessary items including huge king beds.

Quite pleasant stay!

I must say it was not my first choice to rent the apartment for one night at Villa Serena. But somehow my family and I ended up here, in the main stream of city life in the Historic Center of Maztlan. 

It is a great spot,indeed,yet very impersonal in the service. One thing that characterizes Mexicans is the quality service,but I see that it is not everywhere. We were received by a lady who seemed to be doing us a favour by getting us inside the building, and when we were to check out, we did not have anyone to give the keys back to, so I got a phone call from one of the owners to pay for the night while I was having breakfast with my son and wife in a place nearby.

Serena means Serene, peaceful, it was that, I accept it, still, they need to get better at services and make it more homey in a certain way.

We had a lot of fun for the Malecon of Mazatlan was just blocks away and the atmosphere around the Centro Historico is amazing.

Will not go back to this place, though.

IMPERSONAL SERENITY

Bit and switch. When I booked this it was $98 a night, but when I checked in it was $154!!! For that price I could have stayed at a NICE hotel. 

First, the property is a nice and attractive old property locarted in the old cuity, which was convenient for walking. BUT, we had to climb two flights of very precarious stairs and got caught up in the bouganvillea vines on the way up. Then the water stopped the first day for 12 hours; they don't clean the room until you leave; you are provided nothing extra like bath mats, toilet paper, etc. 

For the price we paid we would have had a nice hotel room in the Gold Zone. 

I was NOT happy with the experience and would not go back for the price, primarily because I booked at a lower price than I actually paid. Yes it was during the eclipse, so I expect they changed the price once they realized I had booked during a week that offered high demand.

Bait and switch and the bait smells fishy

WARNING:  There is major construction going on at Villa Serena since May 2021 and it has been anything but "Serena" or Serene to live here.  I am Todd an Airbnb superhost from the USA and I know a thing or two about hospitality. (over 150 5 star reviews on Airbnb). The noise here has been an outrageous nuisance, at one point in time the workers were drilling into my walls sounded like a jackhammer going off. It ongoing all day 8-5p.  Couldn't take phone calls during the noise. This is advertised as a three star hotel on hotels.com and booking.com, totally misleading and they operate it like a prison.  The exterminator came one day in May to treat for cockroaches, and there were hundreds of them dead in the garden patio. I see them daily on the ground floor. The safety is a concern, someone could have been hurt when a large ivy tree toppled over during a storm blocking the exit.  See google review and photos. The windows are antique, shoddy, the doors are antique, shoddy, don't align well, they are not sealed, they leak water. If you are here in June-Sept, the rains and the storms make the windows rattle so loud, its impossible to sleep. Floors flood.  This is just a slum operation looking to pack as many Canadians like sardines into these prison cells.  My privacy was invaded by construction workers looking into our bathroom where my fiancé showered and undressed. The A/C broke down in July heat, took almost two weeks to fix it right.  We have been so grossly unjustly treated as guests who paid almost 1000 USD to stay here monthly.  

In response to my complaints, we have been threatened with police, been ignored, been harassed by Martha Probaellos (more about her below).  Martha is a mean, dictator like Mexican woman who is inconsiderate and rude to guests. She was rude to my fiancé and myself  Last night i was woken numerous times between 11p and 1am by Martha doing laundry and drier signal buzzing off repeatedly. NOTE:  Casita Rafael abuts the laundry room since they just relocated it.  She was unapologetic and rude.  There are similar reports about the staff on hotels.com by a  Canadian as well to this effect, so please read through those you'll see I'm not the only one taking notice of this. 

  The owners Andrea Gibel and her husband who refused to disclose his identity, (red flag) and her son David Gibel are more concerned about retaining their rude staff during COVID then they are about the comfort of their guests.  Its disgraceful.  And their response is , why don't you just leave and find another place. Enough said?  

I have many Canadian friends and they are some of the kindest, nicest most hospitable people i know. No way if they witnessed what I am reporting would they spend their money here.

Three star quality is misrepresentation. Its cheap, like camping with the shoddy countertops, awful worn mattresses, awful sheets, the TV is tiny and bad picture. I find it disgraceful the deceit and the misrepresentation of the place.  No elevator, get used to walking up three flights of stairs if you want windows in your unit, and lugging groceries.  Some people may be willing to pay that amount for a shoddy room with leaking faucets, floors that flood during rainstorms, awful lighting and crappy older appliances. For a few days sure, you can deal.  But don't think about staying here long term until you've done your research. Its camping folks, this is not a hotel.  

I met with Andrea who was a German lady and spoke good English. She offered to discount my rent by 20%.  Does little to offset the lost sleep, threats and hostility and total neglect however.  Sorry but that won't buy my silence about the awful experience.  They decided to keep guests during major construction and should have closed the place down or discounted it at least 50%.  I got screwed. I was a good sport for as long as I could, now I'm at end of my rope. If she and her husband decide to do more to offset this awful experience I will update this review accordingly. Otherwise Villa Serena, good riddens, karma will eventually catch up with you.

Nothing Serene About this AWFUL Experience!!

Where do I start. They say they are newly renovated, but there’s paint chips all around the entire apartment we have. The fridge is all scuffed up with a hole in it and they refuse to replace it.  The apartment itself was dirty when we came in. We have a bad thermostat they refuse to fix. We have a washer and dryer that is absurdly loud and old and they refused to replace. Our hot water heater is missing parts and they have yet to fix them nor do they care too.  The front office was closed on the Fourth of July and charged everyone $100 late fee on the fifth for “paying late”.  They also charge you at $10 fee to pay online and then every online payment they charge you $2.99-47 bucks every time!!!   There’s always garbage around the property. 1 lease is all I’ll be trapped into. What ever the website says on giving out $500 off is a lie. They are shady people here screwing everyone living here. 

DO NOT LIVE HERE!  Get a weekly it’s cheaper with the same problems.
