Hotel is expensive compared to quality very average home first day, not very smiling and nonexistent during the entire stay the rooms are large and clean the staff at breakfast was very friendly the parking lot is very small 2 cars maximum

There is no host

A friend and I found this wonderful boutique hotel on our drive down to Todos Santos.  Fortunately, we ignored the No Vacancy sign and managed to get a room right next to the great little El Zapilote bar and restaurant. Our room was authentic Mexico, clean and comfortable. We sat on our patio, watched the world go by and listened to the musicians singing in the Plaza.  El Zapilote serves wonderful margaritas and delicious small bites.

We missed breakfast on our first visit, but the charming waitress gave us some juice, coffee, and toast.   We made sure to make it on time on our second trip back to the US and sat by the lovely pool with a babbling waterfall that was overlooked by what looked like some lovely rooms.  The breakfast of Huevos Mexicanos was scrumptious.  I almost hate to post this review for fear this little gem will become flooded with visitors!

Watch out for overcharging at this hotel. You may not realize it until you see your bill in dollars.  And, it is not from the conversion rate.  I was overcharged 25.00.  I just put in a claim with my credit card which I know will take care of it.  Be sure to save all invoices. I probably would have let this go if I had not had such a horrible stay at this property.

They overcharge

I booked the 1697 hotel after a good deal of research and reading its positive reviews.  I made my reservation many months before my arrival and asked for a quiet room.  The person answering the email mentioned that the room I was given was near the plaza and there would be a bit of noise but that is settled down in the eve.  I was told several times that there was not a better room.  Well, if you are placed in room 8 or 9 (and you should ask), cancel the reservation and go somewhere NOT near the plaza if you intend to get to sleep before 10:00 pm.  There was live music on the plaza both nights I was there, and I understand it happens every night. Additionally, the room was RIGHT next to the restaurant, and although there is a little patio in front of the room, you will not be using it unless you wish to dine with the folks at the restaurant who are 3 feet from you.  The room was like a cave.  The only light came from the windowed entry doors, which had to be curtained if you did not wish to be the show for the people dining.  The room was dark, dank, cold, dirty, and smelled of mold.  The refrigerator had a bad odor, the utensils in the “kitchen” were not clean and you will not want to use anything provided.  The check in is in the restaurant, so I had to drag my suitcases past people dining.  I was never given any information about wifi or breakfast.  I never saw the person who checked me in again, and when it came time for breakfast the next day, I just assumed it was in the restaurant.  Well, it was closed with no signs of opening.  I asked around, no one knew.  Then I found a door to the side of the restaurant which I opened, and lo and behold, it was the place for breakfast.  And, that is where the “nice rooms” are.  The breakfast was quite good, the attendants friendly and attentive.  When it was time to check out, no one was around and the breakfast attendant told me no one would be in the reception area. They had overcharged me by $15.00 and I wanted to ask about it.  No luck.  That is something I will address once I get home. So, do you need a summary?  Just go somewhere else.

I did the reservation online and when I arrive to the hotel they charged me $15 USD more than what it appeared on the confirmation email.
The room had no heat and ran out of water.
The parking of the hotel had little space.

Be Careful/Aware - hotel over charging.

It should be noted that setting up hotels in certain areas is a risky sport. Loreto is a Baja California area with a much more precarious infrastructure than the Cabos. For example, we suffered a seven-hour blackout the second night we stayed at the hotel. Of course, this is not the hotel's fault, but we could also invest in a generator because so far as I heard, it was not uncommon for electricity to go out. In a hotel that charges you almost 100 euros a night, you don't expect to have to spend until midnight in the pool in the dark to avoid dying of heat. There are no staff in the hotel at night, so we had to ask whoever was to blame. If you approached the hotel, we could not explain anything. The hotel doesn't have a familiar restaurant either. It looks like a familiar hotel. It's adjoining a bed (The Zilote Brewer).

It's not bad, but it's not worth what they charge.

Fantastic boutique hotel on the main square. 
We stayed in one of the four suites which had a comfortable bed , great shower and a/c.
Breakfast was served by the pool - fruit, toast, eggs, tortillas juice and coffee - included in room rate.
The pool is nice and has a covered shady area .

We stayed here from 21st to 24th January Everything excellent, the beautiful room Comodas Agua caliente Coffee service and a small kitchen with full-service pastries in case someone is doing something for themselves.

 Holidays 2021

I stayed in Room #8 which is along the street side near the El Zopilote Brewing & Kitchen which is actually part of the property.  Very affordable room that had everything you need, was very quaint and came with free breakfast in the morning.  There is also a very nice small pool (which I did not use) located within the walls of the compound of this property.  The room had a nice shower and air conditioning that worked well as well as Internet connecting through the bar/restaurant.  You are literally only a few footsteps from the center of town here - the literal town center or plaza where City Hall and city festivals occur.  You can walk about half a block to the Mission, as well as about 2-3 blocks to the Malecon / Ocean Front.  Many restaurants and shops are within view - let alone footsteps - from this lodging.  The owner was very pleasant upon check-in even though I did not have an advance reservation.  Do also eat & drink at their facility El Zopilote Brewing & Kitchen as it was very good beer and good food at reasonable prices with friendly service from the wait staff.  I would definitely return to Hotel 1697 the next time I'm in Loreto.

Very Affordable & Comfortable and Great Location

Lovely little hotel with spacious, clean rooms, perfect pool for relaxing after activities and well shielded from the square for a peaceful stay while still being in the center of the action and walking distance to literally everything. Could not have been more pleased with our choice. Great little restaurant and microbrewery attached that looks out onto the main square. Great value. Staff wonderful.
