we’ve stayed here for a week and it felt like home. the whole hostel is very clean and everyone here is extremely friendly and eager to help.    also the people who stay here have all been tranquil. they have a chill out area with dinning tables, couches, music, loads of plants, a kitchen and a rooftop on which you can watch the sunsets. it’s also very central, right around the corner you’ll find everything you’ll need, such as a small tienda and a farmers market. 
the only snag of this wonderful place is the showers maybe, but you’ll get used to them :) (there’s not a lot of water coming out of these shower heads)

perfect place to hang for a while

Comfortable bed with a great common area and helpful staff. There was a nice contrast in age, not a party hostel but a social hostel which made it nice to meet people but also to get a good night's sleep! Would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Great location, amazing staff!

For breakfast this place really pulls out the best, good place for figuring out transport and close to all the key bits in Oaxaca, showers and hot water are a bit iffy, but it does seem to attract a good group of people

Great option - fantastic breakfast 

I stayed at hostel Pochon for about 40 days.  Only meant to be there for about a week but I quickly learned that Oaxaca in an amazing place with much to see and learn and this was a great inexpensive hostel.  This hostel is one of the cleanest I've stayed at in my 4 months motorcycling around Mexico.  They have an amazing woman named Alo who comes in every Morning and cooks a great, very traditional Oaxacan breakfast and when that is done she cleans the entire place top to bottom....everyday!  Most hostels have volunteers(other travelers who stay for free in exchange for working in the hostel) do the cleaning and this usually results in hairy disgusting showers.  This is not the case at Pochon, the bathrooms are cleaned every day by someone who cares and takes pride in making it a good place to live.  Although my Spanish isn't great she still made me feel like family and I had a great time joking around with her every day.  They let me keep my motorcycle inside the hostel(which anyone traveling with a bike will know how much better that makes you feel).  The internet was some of the fastest and most reliable I have experienced in Mexico. There is beer, wine and Mezcal available in the office for a good price or you can buy your own and bring it back to the hostel.  This is not a party all night kind of hostel but you will not have a problem having a good time if that's what you want. Very family and kid friendly with amazing people working there.  Security is very good here with a solid front door with a deadbolt and lockers in the rooms.  There is also someone at the desk from 6 am until midnight.  Free water is available and a good kitchen if you want to cook. About 10 min walk from the Zocalo and a safe walk at night.  Overall it's a great hostel that makes you feel at home.  Highly recommended!

Great hostel, run by great people!

Great personal hostel! It is located a bit out of the center, but the distance is no more than 10 minutes of walking to the main attractions. As others have said it is quite an old hostel, and especially the showers aren't the best. The beds are great though, breakfast is amazing. Different every day. When I was there there were almost no guests but the few of us had a great time with the volunteers. Amazing help from the staff when my night shuttle didn't show up. Have someone knowing Spanish book for you.

Great personal hostel!

When we arrived, we were told that our room was unfortunately given to someone else. Luckily there was another double room available. The room was clean but due to the glass walls it can be a bit noisy. The rest of the facilities were mostly clean. Some bathrooms could have done with a more frequent cleaning. We didn't use the kitchen for cooking but the free breakfast was good. Location is also pretty good. Overall not a bad place to stay but you might be able to find better if you look early enough. The atmosphere in the hostel was a bit weird during our stay.
