My partner and I stayed here for four nights. It is located on the north end of town across from the beach. It is in a very  quiet location but within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, panaderia and the bank. 
It has been recently bought and renovated by a family from Chicago. They are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of local activities. 
The cabanas are clean, comfortable and private. A quiet fan kept us cool at night and mosquito netting over the bed kept any bitey insects away. A small fridge in the room was very handy to keep drinks and food cold. 
A pleasant seating area complete with hammocks made for a relaxing spot to enjoy the cool ocean breezes while sipping a beer or eating our delicious buns from the local panaderia ( located a block or two past the bank on the Malecon.)
The water was warm and of good pressure for showers. There were numerous spots for laundry lines. 
We would highly recommend this Hostal managed by Lucas and his 3 brothers and 1 sister.

A hidden gem on the Malecon of Puerto Lopez

The hotel decor is fun and the staff is very cheerful and accommodating.  Room was very clean, AC worked very well, and the towels were deliciously thick and fluffy.  
On the negative side were some injury hazards.  The little metal latch on the bathroom door frame projected out and I had to be careful not to stub my toes on big legs on the bed which were not recessed under the bed.  Also, the rooms are not soundproof.  I was awakened early by the voice of a teacher in the next room who was Skyping a student somewhere.  There are lots of stairs, so this is not a good choice for those with mobility problems.

Pleasant stay, but some irritating quirks.

We stayed for 2 weeks at La Cabana in December 2018. We were returning after a similar visit last year. For one of the weeks this year, our children & grandson joined us at La Cabana. 

The location, just across from Playa Panteon, is perfect. The beach is safe, & great for swimming & snorkelling. Plenty of beach restaurants are available. Also available are boat tours for sport-fishing, sight-seeing & scuba.

We think the hotel itself is perfect for us. The rooms have fans and/or air-conditioning, a mini-fridge, TV, good WiFi, & bathroom with hot water.  The whole facility is kept spotlessly clean by a friendly & hard-working staff.  The pool is great for adults & children alike.  We also enjoyed the rooftop terrace. 

The owner, Maria-Eugenia, is always welcoming, helpful & available, as is the receptionist, Lucero. When we stay at La Cabana, we feel like we are staying with family! That's why we took our family there!

Perfect for Us!

We stayed 3 nights at this lovely little hotel in Puerto Angel. It was very clean and comfy with AC and hot water. Steps from the beach and feels like a little hidden oasis in the real Mexico. Would recommend for sure. Staff were very nice and helpful and the morning coffee was a treat.

Cozy hotel in Puerto Angel 

Lovely room with towel animals and fluffy pillows, AC and hot water.  Free coffee in the morning and filtered water all day.  Clean pool, right across the street from the beach and restaurants. WiFi a little spotty.  Lovely lush tropical plants.  Recommend

So nice!

We stayed 6 nights at this marvellous little hotel in Puerto Angel. The owner Maria Eugenia and all the staff were very, I insist, very nice and helpful. Its impeccably clean everywhere on site (pool, entrance, lobby and rooms).  Its directly in the center of Playa Panteon which is an area just a bit outside of the main town and main beach. this area is really small so you can walk within seconds to the beach restaurants across the street and to the beach itself. Playa Panteon is a small beach, very Mexican, pretty calm as the waves are much less powerful than in the surrounding region (Zipolite and Mazunte for example) so its perfect for families with young children. the hotel has a small pool, very refreshing and surrounded by beautiful flowers. I would recommend it to any friend and traveller who likes comfort and quiet places. this is not a luxury hotel nor a luxury beach/destination. If you are used to travel to the real Mexico, you will know that its totally normal to hear some dogs and cocks at 3 in the morning! ;)
At the hotel itself though, you shouldn't hear young backpackers partying because its not that type of place. Its more of a grown up or a family place.
