My boyfriend and I stayed about 3 weeks at Casa Caracol with the new owners Carlos, Kerstin, and their young son.  They are a very warm and accommodating family that live in the main house (also featuring a small dorm and private rooms) of the property. A spacious garden and green space stretches behind the main house towards a group of earth-construction (cob/adobe/recycled materials) buildings, including a small dorm, single and private rooms, and a two-story cottage. They are rustic, but quite comfortable and charming. Plenty of warm bedding is provided for the cool nights. Note, the shared bathroom for these rooms is through the garden at the back of the main house. Another shared bathroom and shower inside the front of the main house. Although basic bathrooms, hot water was always available and the bathrooms cleaned and resupplied regularly with soap, paper, and a fresh towel. The garden area offers tables, chairs, a hammock, fire pit, compost, mats for yoga/meditation, and grassy/level places to camp. Communal kitchen is equipped well enough (with purified water too), and although well used, not abused. It was regularly organized and tidied, with plenty of space for personal storage. Wifi throughout the property, even all the way in the back of the property. They allowed us to store our bicycles and gear several times while we took trips out of town. Discounts for extended stays. Location is outside of the main tourist district on a residental block. 5 mins walking to the art market, 15 to guadalupe walking street.  The vibe at the hostel is very chill and tranquilo. Not a party hostel. It tends to attract budget travelers (we paid 200 pesos a night for the cottage) looking for something a little closer to nature in the city. Overall, we had a great stay and enjoyed immensely the company of the family and the other travelers.

Unique garden hostel

Had a great stay a casa caracol! The new owners are wonderful and are making the space even more beautiful. Lots of gardens, murals, space to relax outside, do yoga, read, have a bonfire. Close to the artisan market and vegetable market (5 min).The adobe rooms in the back are really unique and beautiful. Stayed for several weeks without any problems and met lots of other awesome people from all over.

Beautiful space, comfortable and friendly

we were there a week in a very nice room. We arrived around 2 in the morning from a late flight. Our cab driver patiently pounded on the door and Carlos let us in and settled us in our room. The staff is outstanding and tried to help, there was a major language issue though. The hostel is not in a touristy part of town which I like and is only a short walk from the center of town. If you go right as you leave the door and continue down the street you will discover the local town with local food and shopping and peeks into schools. We felt very secure there.
My problem was that there were not enough internationals there or enough tourist literature to help advise us on our adventure.

great location and caring people

Let me make this clear-there are new owners here that’s why the service is completely different. First off, it’s far from the main streets, when I went it was locked and I had to bang on the door for a few minutes until some girl answered. She told me she didn’t even work there that the guy that works there is sleeping...it was already like 11. She showed me around and the place is really dirty, no toilet paper, there was no bulb in my lamp, whenever I needed something the guy that worked there was never around to help me out. Things like toilet paper and hand soap should just be stocked I shouldn’t have to ask! 

The whole place was just dirty and poorly upkept, I personally know the old owner and know he wouldn’t let it get like that. But he hasn’t owned it for a few years now...tip, save yourself the trip and stay at Iguana Hostel which is way closer to everything and way cleaner. 

Terrible Place 

Had a really bad experience here. Booked a doubleroom for two for 200mx, sounds really cheap right? Yeapp. But.. We got into a dorm and the owner maked us pay 130mx per person. I was freezing all night, the light was not working in the bathroom and it was really dirty. Just don’t go.
