This hostel really seems overrated. The toilets are super nasty, security level is low - anyone can basically walk in and out at anytime. 

Walls are super think, so you can hear everything that’s going on anyway. Privates in the attic are a joke - tiny rooms full of crossbeams.

You can’t really judge a hostel by its guests, but the atmosphere was super weird. Common areas indoors are not super cozy, and outdoor areas aren’t really good for ganging out in cold San Cristobal.

Very bad experience

I really like this place. it has been constantly improved = made nicer over the last 10 years or so. the beds are solid, clean, comfy and warm - s.th. which you will appreciate during those often pretty chilly nights in san cristobal. the stuff is welcoming, friendly + helpful. it is very clean + which gets checked up upon regularly. plenty of lockers at varying sizes. huge bonus is the nightly bonfire - good place to get warm + meet your fellow travellers. breakfast is a bit on the basic side ( toast, jam, fruit, coffee/ tea ) but at least they are not stingy about it. 
from the bus station it 's about a mile or so. pretty easy to find, too, 24hrs access

good hostel in san cristobal de las casas

This was the first and still the best backpacker in las casas.
Ask for David..

What typically happens here is someone gets the great idea to buy an old house and turn it into a hostel..basically a rooming house where other people pay the mortgage..
No harm, no foul
And the owners often are super nice

The problem is..you are living in someone’s house..one front room that now has some bunk beds, one patio, one bathroom, one kitchen..and there is pretty much always one guest who has commandeered..everything

Rossco was created as a hostel and is run professionally. There is a kind staff and multiple places to hammock.

And dogs. And cat.

Super cool place..

I am very disappointed with the service! The staff does not even look at you for a Hi or good morning, the girls in the kitchen and reception just ignored you completely! I also think that the breakfast is quite Mediocre :( YES, we know that it is a continental free breakfast but for being in a place where the artisanal and the homemade thing is highly valued ... to give you the COSTCO jam?? I mean, seriously? Added value guys !! The cups of coffee are plastic, horrible smell with chlorine so it would be impossible to describe if Coffee was good or not :( It is very unfortunate because the place is very nice and in good conditions though and its staff does not help, definitely, I would NOT RETURN!

NICE PLACE, MEDIOCRE STAFF AND BREAKFAST

I stayed 2 nights in this hostel with my family during a visit in Chiapas. Loved the nature vibe with so many plants. It is right in the center and within walking distance to San Cristobal sights, while still offering a relaxing and calm atmosphere. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The rooms cozy and clean. I recommend staying here!
P. S. Don't forget to bring warm clothes to San Cris! Very chilly nights even in summer.

Calm hostel in city center

The hostel is located right in the center of the town, literally 10 minutes walk from everywhere. Everything was fairly good considering the area. Atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, rooms are decently sized and clean.
Breakfast is included but it's at the bare minimum. 

Good for a couple of nights 

+ Good value hostel: basic but at a very fair price
+ Located close to one of the nice churches and a number nice places to eat but not in one of the busy tourist streets
+ Reasonably clean
- The included breakfast is very basic: (max 3) slices of bread that you can toast yourself, jam, butter, coffee and a banana. At this price, though, what more can one expect?
