I have mixed feelings about this hotel and about writing a review, mostly because of Francisco, the manager(?), who was so nice and helpful. However...

I arrived late at night and there was someone there to open the door and carry my bags up to my room. The next morning the only one there was Gloria, the cook/maid who spoke very little, if any, English. You know how usually when you stay at a hotel or B&B there's someone who kind of welcomes you and tells you about the place and  imparts some information about...something? Nope.

 Fortunately, I speak enough Spanish that I was able to order breakfast and ask her how to get to El Centro (I asked her if there was a map and she said no, but later I noticed there was one underneath the glass on the table inside the front door, but apparently none to take with). She indicated I should go down the street and then go to the right.

After a couple of blocks I heard another couple behind me and asked if this was the way to Centro. They advised that I not continue down this road, but follow them a few blocks over where there were some stairs, which turned out to go about 2/3 of the way. The B&B is up the hill from EL Centro and it's not terribly far but it's really, really steep in parts and all the roads are cobblestone and mostly quite narrow. Coming back up was a workout, which was fine with me, but the downhill killed my knees. Taking a cab or Uber is only a few bucks.

What surprised me was that there wasn't any information provided at the B&B regarding less treacherous, knee-busting routes if one chose to walk. In the room there was a sort of booklet, but it was all in Spanish and I didn't bother trying to read it. It didn't appear to have practical information. I could be wrong. After the first day, Francisco recited the breakfast menu for me, but would it be so hard to print out an English - or even Spanish- menu? 

There was a patio on the roof, but I discovered it accidentally and the chairs had no cushions and were dirty. There ARE two bars, but only in the sense that they look like bars. You can't get a drink there. Perhaps they're only 'breakfast bars', but on at least some websites it's clearly implied  or specifically referred to as "two bars".

There are lots of books and magazines available, but they all seem to be pretty old (10 year old Vogues and paperbacks published 15 or 20 years ago) And there was a card in the room with the extensions for all the rooms and the manager, but there weren't any house phones!

Nice staff but...

The B & B was really nice, clean, beautiful, nice grounds, excellent decor. The breakfast was to die for.  Fresh fruit. Hot croissants. Choice of Mexican breakfast or eggs.  I'd stay there again just for the breakfast.  But there were lots of little inconveniences. I couldn't open the closet door without rolling away the rug (which I then tripped on). No English anywhere. I never met an owner or manager. My room was on the ground floor, so there was no view. There was lots of tile, so noise echoed, waking me up in the morning. And most importantly, the location was inconvenient.  With bad knees, it was painful to walk down the hill on cobblestones, but there were no taxis in the residential neighborhood, and there was no one I could ask to call one.

Amazing breakfast!

What a wonderful stay, this is the rare Inn where the reality is better than expectation.   Everything from the quality of the room to attractiveness of the entire place to the personal attention is exemplary.  The owner went out of his way to pick up beers and snacks, wash dirty clothes and offer special foods for breakfast.  And breakfast was custom made each day presided over by Gloria and at times Fernando, the owner.
The property is on top of town and the views from top two floors is stunning.  My room had a balcony looking at courtyard and beyond.  Ate out there a few times and brought a smile each time.  The room was King Suite with lots of room and wonderful layout including a fireplace and useable balcony.
To summarize, special place of beauty, cleanliness and care.

Pros:
- Delicious breakfast
- Very homely atmosphere with clean, spacious rooms
- Amazing terrace and balcony
- Quiet location with a fresher air than closer to the center
- Got a discount for an inconvenience we had related to the invitation QR code that was delayed (Covid regulations)
- Clean

Cons: just that QR code issue (ask them to send it to you in advance, the police will be checking the cars when entering the town)

Overall: probably the best hotel in Mexico we stayed in, given that quite many boutique hotels lack the required high level of service; but this one could tick all the boxes.

Great location, breakfast and kind staff

This is a hidden gem atop one of the SMA hills, a most comfortable, beautifully appointed house with inner courtyard and lovely, helpful staff.  An easy downhill walk to Centro, Casa Tierra del Sol Hotel pays for one taxi ride a day - perfect for end of day return up the hill to hotel - but even if you need more than one taxi ride a day, the taxis are plentiful and very inexpensive.  Equivalent of $2.50 US will get you taxi ride anywhere in SMA.
Breakfast was amazing.  It went on and on.  They are so accommodating, purchased whole grain bread just for me and made breakfast just the way I wanted each day.  This was home away from home, but there was no intrusive, uninvited attention.  Worth every bit of the value.

hidden gem

Casa Tierra del Sol is a 7 room B&B with absolutely top notch service. The breakfast of course is included and it's not your common commercial stuff. Delicious hot plates changed daily. Very secure, great views from their balcony. You can walk downtown but going up to the hotel will require a local taxi ($45 pesos for all aboard). Fernando, Gloria and their staff are awesome! Don't hesitate to book here, it is the best price/value in San Miguel de Allende.

Incredible service in San Miguel de Allende

This hotel is not only lovely and authentic, their service is outstanding.  The rooms are well furnished and very clean.  The breakfast is amazing with freshly squeezed orange juice and all the fixings!  They truly go the extra mile.  I would definitely recommend this place!

Outstanding

My daughter and I recently stayed at Tierre de Sol y Luna for a week.  Exceptional B&B hotel only a few blocks to the city center Jardin.  Outstanding views from the rooftop terrace.  Beautifully appointed with spacious rooms and kept very clean. It is quiet and securely gated with a parking garage. The staff was very helpful and friendly.  We were given a tour upon arrival and shown glassware, refrigerator, kitchen, library and patios available to us. We looked forward to our fabulous breakfasts every morning served on hand-painted china..Upon request, the staff served our breakfast earlier to accommodate our day trip, and early departure.  We were given several options and served pastries, coffee, toast, jelly, fruit and a main serving of eggs or omelets, and/or a choice of a variety of Mexican dishes  Definitely deserve 5 stars!!  Beautiful place, I highly recommend, and will definitely stay here again, hopefully soon!

Magnificant Boutique Hotel in San Miguel de Allende with fantastic service!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay at this charming and lovely B&B hotel. After 2 weeks, the staff almost felt like family. The skeleton staff of 3 worked hard to provide excellent 24 hr personal and attentive service! Our suite was spacious and the bed was very comfortable.  There was an electric heater/fan provided, as well as an electric blanket for those nights which can be cool. 
The facilities of the 7 room hotel are at guests' disposal, including the bar and laundry areas, kitchenware, and Fernando even provided us with a mini-fridge when we requested it. 
It should be noted that in order for a location to provide a magnificent rooftop view in San Miguel, the trade off is the climb. We are in our late 50's but enjoyed our daily walk down to the plaza/Jardin, which took approx 15 min. We only managed the steep climb back up to the hotel once. The hotel provides complimentary taxi fare once a day back up the hill, so for us it was no hardship whatsoever. We would definitely stay here again!
