Husband & wife manage the place - the wife is a lovely person - i had a ring stolen when i was there - before that happened i had enjoyed the place - the husband seems to be acting a part he seems inauthentic & doesnt seem to mind litter - a person who recomended the place to me had her extra car key stolen when she was there

Imagine you own charming and laid back casita near the beach, with sunset views, a private hammock equipped landscaped patio and your own kitchen and bath...and at bargain rates and a nearly private pool.

And at bargain basement rates.

Minutes to the surfing beaches, Baja Beans for coffee and hanging out, Barracuda Cantina, HierbaBuena and the Todos Santos at experience.

Then drive an hour up the coast to charming La Paz and swim with the whale sharks with MeXplore.

Heaven!

Our "Go To" Place for a Hut on the Beach Experience

I'm sad to say that my experience at Casitas El Salistral was very poor. 

We booked here for a month-long stay and found that the service was very bad and the amenities were dirty. We frequently had to ask multiple times for drinkable water, towels, and for our room to be cleaned.  On one came to clean my room in the final two weeks of my stay.   I even cleaned the pool once myself because there were so many dead bugs and frogs in the pool.  I frequently found mouse feces on my bed! The owners just didn't seem to care about keeping the property clean. 

At the end of my stay, the owners accused my dog of peeing on the mattress and said that I flipped it over to hide the stains.  My dog is house-trained and did not pee on the mattress.  Furthermore, the mattress is huge and heavy. I couldn't have flipped it even if I wanted to!  Maybe the people before me did this, but I did not, and they tried to charge me $70 American for damage I did not do.  They sent pictures of stains that was clearly already there and prevented me from re-entering the property to take my own photos.  

After this negative experience, I do not trust the owners of this hotel.  Not only did they not do the very basics to keep the amenities  clean, but they also tried to blame me and charge me for damage I did not commit. 

I would think twice before staying here.  The area is very pretty and there are lots of other great places to stay.

Owner Accused me of Staining the Mattress and Tried to Charge Me for Damages Already Present

We booked our last night in Baja here. We wished we would have booked two nights. The location was a peaceful retreat away from city life. The resort consisted of a couple huts, each with their own personal patio, hammock and chair. You could faintly see/hear the ocean in the distance. The layout was designed so every hut was like an individual oasis is the desert. The resort had a beautiful pool and second-floor patio with tables/chairs and a telescope to enjoy the night sky. The owner’s dogs were very friendly, and would lay on the ground near us when we were outside and slept outside of our hut at night. I have never felt this safe anywhere. In the morning, the owner brought a bountiful breakfast to our room of fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, pancakes, coffee and homemade empanadas. It was delicious, but we couldn’t eat it all! This was truly a unique experience of authentic, genuine, Mexican hospitability. If you decide to stay here, you should look at the map on how you need to get there beforehand. (You might need to make a U-turn on the highway and will need to turn onto an unnamed dirt road. I suggest looking at google satellite maps.)  Also, there is no air conditioning, but there is a floor fan.

Extreme hospitality!

Living for a tiny while in the desert, you will (re)discover that relaxation comes through simplicity, appreciation through scarcity, happiness through kindness.

There is no tv, hell, sometimes there is not even electricity or hot water. But you will not miss a thing. Maybe you'll actually find some things you had forgotten.

Kids play with the dogs, are amazed by the plants, scramble in the brown earth and you wonder if these are the same kids that were bored out of their mind back home or if they just transformed to an archaic version of themselves.

For a moment forget that you are close to the highway, maybe 10 mn from Cerritos beach (by car) and 20 mn from Todos Santos. Just enjoy the opportunity of a simple moment in the desert, in a comfortable setting.


Desert time

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. 5 nights with two teenagers. Usually a recipe for disaster.  Unplug and relax. 5 mins to Cerritos surf break. Need lessons or a board see Edgar at Baja Surf School.  Watching the beautiful sunsets from the patio(with hammock) while we all read BOOKS!! and melted, while one of us showered(work around it). Easy walking distance to an excellent Nonamed restaraunt run by the same people that own the convenience store. Camarones al ajo! Try Felipes in El Pescadero his camarones stuffed relleno was crazy good. Being a dog lover helps. Osa slept on our porch and would bark, so we let her in and she slept peacefully along with the rest of us. No problemo. Gracias Manuel!

Tranquillo casita

Dogs were barking late at night, and construction woke me up at 8am right next door. This place is in the middle of nowhere, so I can for some rest after a long travel day and didn't get it. Also, they play loud American pop music all day and there was not hot water in the shower. The pool wasn't available for use when I was there either. Disappointed.

Beautiful but noisy

Friends planned a wedding reception here and it was fabulous.  Not your typical resort environment, so rustic - charming and unique.  Peaceful and away from everything. If you want to get away and have incredible sunset views - this is the place.  The owners prepared and arranged the food for 80 people - home cooked traditional Mexican - and it was hot and delicious - a tremendous feat for outside and a wedding that ran almost 2 hours past when it was supposed to start.  Relax and enjoy these amazing casitas.

We flew into Cabo around 4:30 and I didn't want to drive all the way to La Paz.  We stopped here on the recommendation from family and we were not disappointed.  It was clean and so comfortable.  The only mistake we made was not stopping for water or snacks in Cabo.  I had my destination in mind and just wanted to get there.  It worked out though.  We went to Art and Beer for dinner and also bought a couple of bottles of water.  We are early risers so we headed to Todos Santos at 7:30 for breakfast.  I would definitely stop at Casitas El Salitral again.
