Stayed in this hotel the night of Saturday Feb 19, 2022 after having stayed a night at another resort on the outskirts of Tamasopo. The Cosmos is a good location in the heart of the Tamasopo pueblo near many restaurants and the town square. It's reasonably quiet and clean. Restaurant on site which is pretty good and very reasonably priced. Many places to fill your water bottles. There's a pool and what appears to be a 'hot' tub, but neither are heated or very clean. Room was adequately furnished with two nightstands, a table, armoire and vanity.  Only 2 pillows were provided, upon request we were given 1 additional pillow, but no case (improvised with a tshirt). Only two small towels are provided (no bath mat, no hand or face towles). TV had Netflix, but I was unable to log out of the profile that was logged in, so only able to watch Spanish language shows.  Wifi worked well in the room and all over the property. There's secure parking on the premises.

One night in Downtown Tamasopo

We wanted to speak with a supervisor since we got in late.manager didn't allow us to get anything better. We had to look for something else and since there was nothing else available we were stuck here in this place. People here are so nice but in this hotel they suck!

Horrible service

Stayed 1 night... the toilet seat was covered with white crust, looked like it had been wiped with the floor rag. The room smelled of humidity... walls looked like they had never been wiped. The wall AC unit was very noisy. My inlaws did not have any towels in their room and their remote did not work. Didn't use the pool as it was filled with kids and smelled. 
Had breakfast at the restaurant... hard to mess up eggs so food was deceny although the place was not very clean especially the floor. Service was poor... 2 gals standing around.

1 night stay

The amenities are good for what you paid for. Don’t book on their website. It is better if you do through booking or paid on cash. Their own online system doesn’t work. They said we needed to paid again. Since we thought it was already charged to the card we used. So we ended up paying in cash. Noticing a few days later they charged credit card. So they charged us twice . Until now they haven’t refund what they charged on the credit card.

Hotel Cosmos' online website does't work

We stayed for one night during our tour in La Huasteca. The rooms are clean and with basic amenities, it’s all you need to have some rest.

Wifi doesn’t work in the rooms, only at the reception and restaurant but the signal is good.

They give you tea, coffee and sweet bread early morning when your tour leaves before they open the restaurant.

Nice and clean!

I stayed there with my wife for a couple of days and we had a good starting point for the places of interest. Everythinhg was fine, just the AC was too noisy, the wi-fi wasnt working in the room and the staff was a little too serious for me. There are several cammpings and cabins around.

Regular one.

I visited the Huasteca in July and made my way East from San Luis Potosí, SLP. I liked Tamasopo and Aquismón much better than Ciudad Valles. While Cd Valles IS in the middle of all of the Huasteca activities, the town itself is dirty, hot, and humid with NO relief or night breeze, like Tamasopo and Aquismón. I wish I'd stayed more days in Hotel Cosmos in Tamasopo, instead. 
Here are my thoughts:

PROs:
-cheap, $25 - $29/night or so
-wall A/C unit with remote control
-ceiling fan with 3 settings
-flat screen tv 
- 2 conveniently placed electrical outlets - one by the bed, one in the bathroom
-quiet hotel, good location in a quiet area just a few blocks from the town square
-decent toilet water pressure, shower worked well and had hot water
-simple room with a bed, small wood vanity dresser and nightstands, and a small closet
-Large windows with screens
- chairs in the hallways for relaxing
-soda and vending machines in the lobby
-foosball table in the lobby
- rope swing near the parking lot that kids enjoyed
-restaurant on site (I wasn't impressed at all with the food or service)
-Large reception area, easy check in/out
-Nice pool with outdoor restrooms
-This hotel was nicer than quite a few more expensive ones in town

CONs:
- Weak Wi-Fi signal throughout hotel
- The wall A/C unit did not work very well and was humid, like a swamp cooler. But even in July, it was bearable, especially with the cool night breeze
- Sheets were old and worn
- The electrical outlet was so worn and loose, it did not support a cell phone charger. I had to use my extension cord. (*This was common everywhere I went). 
- The windows faced the hall and parking lot, so if you opened your curtains, everyone could see into your room. 
-The restaurant food was pretty bad and  expensive

*Travel Advice*
-Do NOT GO to the Huasteca from late June to December. This is the rainy season and EVERY waterfall is closed. I was greatly disappointed that I could do nothing but take pictures.  :'( 
- If visiting the Huasteca, do NOT stay in Cd Valles. This city is miserably hot and humid, dirty, and ugly. Stay in Tamasopo or Aquismon. Both of these towns are only one hour in either direction from Cd Valles. They cool down at night with a breeze.  There are plenty of places to stay (in either location) that aren't listed on trip advisor. The only advantage to staying in Cd Valles is the access to the large bus terminal there, and that it is located in the middle of all of the Huasteca activities. 

Bus info:
Despite the outdated info in posts and articles on the web which state that buses are few and far between in the Huasteca, I was able to find comfortable buses all around the region. 
However, be aware that the internet systems are NOT up-to-date (neither by search engine "busbud.com"  or "reserbus.com",  nor by searching a bus line directly on its website).
The best thing to do upon arrival in a bus terminal, is hop from counter to counter, and check the schedules for your next destination. If the buses are limited, you should buy your next ticket in advance right then and there. 

CURRENT BUS SCHEDULES (July):

-There are plenty of buses that run from Cd Valles south to Xilitla (or Aquismón or Huichihuayan) daily. Every 30 min from 5:30am to 5pm. Cost:112 pesos,  2 hrs on Vencedor with A/C.
*Catch the bus from the MAIN bus terminal at the edge of town, rather than the smaller terminals in Centro. Those buses do not have A/C and make many stops, doubling the time of the trip. 

*Be aware: There are NO buses to Xilitla from any company after 5pm. Plan accordingly. 

-Buses run from Xilitla north to Cd Valles every hour until 11pm. 112p. Vencedor. Takes 2 hours.  A/C.

- Buses run from Cd Valles westward to San Luis, SLP, every hour from Vencedor until 2 or 3am. 
Omnibus (I think) also offers this route, but only at night at 9:30p, 12am, 1am, 2am. These tickets sell out, so buy in advance. 

Several buses a day run from Xilitla (or Cd Valles) south to Mexico City. 

* Vencedor offers the most frequent routes, never sells out, and it's cheaper, but tends to make more stops on the street to let passengers on or off, which increases travel time. It also does not store luggage underneath the bus. So if you have more than a carry-on, you're better off with the other (more expensive) line(s). They are less frequent and sell out fast, so buy your ticket a day in advance. 
Buses in this area usually leave 15-30 min after the scheduled departure time, but if your schedule is rigid, show up on time to avoid being left behind by that one bus that's on time.
