My room was large, clean, and very comfy. It certainly was not cold either. Warm water was a challenge in the evenings but seemed to be fine at morning.

Meals were average but sufficient. 

There is not much available in this town and I was more than happy with what was offered at this hotel. I felt safe the whole time as well.

Very good experience at this hotel

Way overpriced.  This is a 650 peso/night hotel at best.  The room was so cold (no heating) that I couldn’t bear the idea of taking a shower, the TV did not work, the room was cramped.  The pimple-faced teenagers at the front desk were useless.  But what really upset me was that they have a full-size bedpost hanging over the front desk as part of their “kitsch” theme, and the leg of the damn thing sticks directly into the main doorway. I smacked my head on it so hard I fell down in pain; gave me a big, bloody bump.  I mean, they literally, intentionally put this hazard right there in the doorway.  Hello?

Overpriced, cold and dangerous

The outside of the hotel leaves much to be desired, but once inside it feels warm and welcoming. The hotel is clean, there is good WiFi and there is hot water. Although, it takes a few minutes for the water to warm up. There aren't many good restaurants in the area. If you walk in the direction of the town plaza, there are quite a few more options. This is a good hotel considering that it's in a small town that has only become safe again in the past few years. I didn't come with high expectations and I wasn't disappointed.

Decent Hotel In Zitacuaro

five of us came here for 2 nights to visit the monarch butterflies of course. The courtyard and central areas are charming, filled with antique sewing machines and other doodads. Rooms are sufficient, beds ok, shower hot (after a 10 minute warm up), wifi a bit iffy in the rooms. 

The young woman operating the front desk during our stay was extremely sweet, but in way over her head. One of our party who speaks Spanish had to intercede for her with an obnoxious, whining US customer.

Local bars and restaurants are few and far between in this town, so we requested a meal for the second night since we read on TA that they had good home style mexican cooking. It was unfortunately the worst meal i ate in a month in Mexico, consisting of some kind of meat loaf, a few leaves of iceberg lettuce and 1 cherry tomato, and ice cold mashed potatoes, and a side of cold elbow macaroni thinly coated in a red sauce and topped with a cold white sauce, served with a purple koolaid- like drink.  Truly, truly awful and to top it off we learned when we checked out that we were charged 250 pesos each, or about $14 US a plate, a fortune in this remote area.

Charming basic hotel, eat and drink elsewhere

The morning after you sleep in this place, you feel this option was not the best to stay overnight in Zitácuaro, only 1:30 hours from the monarchs, but it still can be one more choice to sleep there when the best place in town is no vacancy for you and your car. This hotel was open a few years ago, in a good looking house, with a lot of antiques inside and outside the rooms, but certainly is not offering a great experience to national and international tourists (no English speaking personnel) not to mention the very basic continental breakfast included. Keep in mind you will pay a reasonable price and will only get a nice clean room, a hot shower, nice towels and amenities, wifi and cable tv service next to warm beds and that´s it. I didn´t expect more!
