Perfect place to relax in after exploring the Essaouria medina . We were given such a warm welcome and made to feel very much at home . Room comfortable and well equipped and there is a well stocked kitchen ,fridge and washing machine for travellers wishing to cater for themselves . Roof terrace is perfect with different areas in which to relax in both shade and sunshine. Amazing views over the city and the ocean .
Only downside is that there are a number of very steep stairs for anyone with mobility problems .But you wouldn’t get the perfect view without this ! 
Would definitely return .

Comfortable ,relaxing stay .


Daranur is not just an accommodation, it is pure light for people like us who always let life to offer us unforgettable surprises.  It is the first time in our lives that the place where we sleep becomes the best experience of a trip (even if this trip was full of adventures as usually).  The Daranur family, Sol, Ferrán, Hassan, Milouda, are amazingly lovely, their presence make shine every corner of this beautiful Riad in which you will not feel at home, you will feel much better than that...  Let yourself be surprised by the fraternal spirit of Daranur and you will return charged with plenty of positive energy...

La familia Daranur, Sol, Ferrán, Hassan, Milouda, son increíblemente encantadores, su presencia hace brillar cada rincón de este precioso Riad en el que no te sentirás como en casa, te sentirás mucho mejor que en ella... Déjate sorprender por  el espíritu fraternal de Daranur y volverás a tope de energía positiva...

A magical spot... Un lugar mágico...

We booked the property days ago and informed them about the arrival time which was around 8.00 pm. The beginning of the lockdown in the country was 9.00 pm. We waited at the hotel door until 8.30 pm, nobody answered the phone calls or showed off. The messages over booking.com with the owner didn't help, just a sorry for the misunderstanding. We barely found a hotel with an open reception, and paid lots of money for a night. I definitely do not recommend this property.

Not recommended!

Pretty place that was at a very good price.  Our family stayed 3 nights and loved it.  Beautifully decorated.  

Communication with the owner was easy.  The manager, Hassan was very helpful despite the fact that we didn’t speak French or Arabic.  He met us at one of the gates of the Medina and made sure we had parked our car rental in a safe place.  After taking us to the house, he showed us a clean late night place to eat.

The beds were comfortable.  The water for the shower was hot.  

If you book this place take into consideration what you are paying.  This place was so reasonable!  You can hear street noise and you are in a small space with other guests.  Each floor of the house has a common area.  Another guest was confused about this.  She locked us out of the common area which prevented access to our room.  She was apologetic when she realized her mistake- but it took loud knocking to rouse her from sleep.  If things like this are troubling to you, this is not the place for you.

One of the nicest things about this place is the roof top deck.  It is spectacular.  You have a view of the ocean.  It’s the best of both worlds- ocean view and in the heart of the Medina.  The shared kitchen is also on the roof top.  

We loved our stay at Daranur!



Great Stay

Daranur is a charming guesthouse with lots of character where you can feel at home during your stay in Essaouira. The rooms share a kitchen, one apartment has a kitchen of its own, and there are plenty of shops in the neighborhood where you can find everything you need. Otherwise there are very nice cafés and restaurants just around the corner. The roof terrace is one of the highest in town and has therefore a great view, quite special i'd say. The house is located in a narrow street in the Mellah, a more quiet area than the touristic “downtown“, which is in any case just a 5 min walk away.

Charming guesthouse in lovely neighborhood

Tiny little place situated among tiny little alleyways but it's like a little sanctuary. The rooms are basic but very clean and very comfortable. I loved how the window opens to the street beneath so you have sounds of the town coming into your room. The wifi was strong and the owners are absolutely lovely people. 
My favorite thing about this place, though, is the rooftop. There are many riads with many  rooftops in Essaouira but this one is one of the best. It's got views out to the ocean and two smaller platforms that you can go up for unobstructed views. There's chairs, tables and lounges to lounge in and see the ocean and all the other rooftops in the city around you. Also a perfect place to practice yoga :)

Daranur is a quaint old house In a narrow and dirty alleyway of Essouira Medina. Arriving for the first time in this way was a bit intimidating. Hassan's the owner of the place and can communicate only in French and Arabic, tried to explain the route to the market and how he single handedly renovated the place in shabby chic style. From the roof top you can enjoy a nice view of the  Medina roof tops and the Atlantic Ocean. The place was a good stay for our family of six. No internet was available and on a couple of days warm water was also missing.

First things first ...
Daranur is not a hotel, its a traditional house [dar] with a few rooms and a self catering apartment on the top floor. 

And we booked that apartment. It has a separate bedroom, a bathroom and a spacious living room with a small but perfectly formed kitchen at the corner. Bearing in mind that this property is in the medina where the water flow can be a bit slow as in any properties in similar areas. 

Our experience staying here is like staying at your friend's house.
The owner Saodade and her helper Milouda are friendly, very accommodating and great hosts. Although our French, Spanish + Arabic are close to non existent, we somehow managed the communication well. Saodade speaks good English.

The apartment is on the top floor which means that you have to scale lots of stairs to get to the room, and a bit more to get to the terrace. To us, it was worth it. We had our breakfast [which we bought in the market a minute away] on the terrace every morning. The view is breathtaking overlooking the ocean. Daily cleaning service is included with the apartment rental. 

The location of this property is perfect, just a few steps from the main thoroughfare of the souk. You can get fresh fish and vegetables to cook in the kitchen which we did a few times. Don't forget to eat the freshest sardines.

I highly recommend this place for its location, quality and beautiful apartment and super great hosts. Just one reminder that it has lots of steps going up to the apartment. 
Its right in the middle of the medina, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the merriment. The food is fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. The best cafe au lait is at the small cafe at the corner of the main square manned by an old man.

Love it ....

Even though we were sick for almost our whole stay we really enjoyed it. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the prices are reasonable!
You have access to the rooftop and there is also a kitchen. 
The owner was very kind and helpful.
I would recommend Daranur to anyone.
