What a beautiful place! The atmosphere is great. Room was small, very high, but warm.
Bed sheets were very clean and smelled nice. That's very important for me.
Two bathrooms are a huge advantage!
The owners are really nice and helpful.

I can understand why some people would be under-whelmed by this accommodation, it really depends on what you are looking for, I stayed here with four other friends and we were all traveling around, somewhat roughing it.
The room we had was unusual, one double bed and four fouton/sofa things, one of which was quite lumpy and gave my friend a bad back. However the room was very clean and tidy and was on the second floor with a window over looking the central court-yard. The bathroom was a little en-suite with a hot, good quality shower, flushing toilet and basin.
The roof terrace was great with the first tier being in partial shade with seating and plants, then you could go up a tiny ladder to the top tier which was great for sunbathing and had an amazing view over the roof tops of the medina.
The stairs are very steep inside and quite dark so be careful!
The breakfast was good, with mint tea, juice, bread, chipattis, cheese, boiled eggs and more!
the courtyard had a natural spring bubbling up and a beautiful, comfy sofa.
The guide who I believe lives next door, is very helpful, however he is naturally trying to make his money, he took us around the medina to various shops which were obviously on the 'rout' that they took the tourists on and got a cut of whatever the tourists bought. The places were generally prices, but, to be honest they were shops we would never have found other wise and were worth a good look round, he also showed us the sights and was very patient with our slowness.
We would have been completely lost without him (Literally!)
So although he obviously takes guests to shops he has a deal with, he is a good guy, he never asked for any money for taking us around the Fes sights even though we were out for ages and he was obviously exhausted by the end. He also helped us organize a trip to the Sahara which we would never have managed without him.
He spoke great English and fended off most of the other 'guides' and hustlers which was helpful on our first day and helped us get to grips with the medina and showed us where to buy good cheap street food and bought us water when we forgot to get any.
He did more than he was required to so all in all he was a great help and asset to the hotel. Just beware the shops he takes you to as they are pricey if you arent prepared to haggle, example of the scarf shop he took up to, the shop owner wanted 38dirham for some plain cotton scarves (We haggled him down to 60dirham) and the next day saw them for sale elsewhere for 50 dirham.

Different Type of Accomodation

When my dad and I arrived in Fes we were welcomed by Abdou who took us to the riad. His sister and mother are living in the riad and were very kind. Our room was nice but the towels and toilet paper were missing upon arrival and we had to ask them for it. The riad is located in a quiet little alley. However, there can be noise coming from the other rooms. The address given on booking.com and TripAdvisor is not correct and you should surely communicate with Abdou through WhatsApp. The breakfast was very nice and included eggs, muffins, homemade donuts and some type of salty pancakes, bread, cream cheese, olives, yoghurt, grapefruit or peach jam, green tea with fresh mint and coffee.

We booked this riad as it was very cheap in comparison to some others.It was very basic.The bathroom didnt have a door but just a curtain which was a bit uncomfortable.We were given complimentry breakfast on the first day which was delicious.Unfortunately we booked elsewhere for the rest of the stay mainly because of the bathroom.Shame really as the hosts were very helpful.

Bed, parking and breakfast previously paid without parking and breakfast. A private home and characteristic private house in the heart of old Medina with very poor services, no door in the bathroom, me and my wife sleeping on two sofas...
