The first thing we’ve got upon arrival was the bill. The boy who opened the door asked us 3 times if we could pay the bill now. We told him that we first needed to go to the bank, but he didn’t understand us. Finally we settled on paying the next day. We were the only guests in the Riad and the water of the pool was not cleaned or filled up. 

When we put our luggage in the room, the boy gave us the key of the Riad and our room and left. First it felt special to have the Riad all to yourself, but then we found out the remote of the airco was gone and we couldn’t contact anyone. The boy didn’t tell us a thing when he left, so you can understand I was scared hearing someone entering the Riad at 02.00 hr at night. The next day we saw the new guy. He was only lying on 1 of the beds of the riad and looked reluctant to get up and talk to us. The first thing he said to us, was that we needed to pay the room. I told him I wasn’t happy with the fact I didn’t had any way to contact them when they left and he didn’t feel sorry at all. 

Then I asked him about breakfast, and it wasn’t possible anymore. It was required to order it a day upfront. But the boy who left us the day before, never mentioned it. 

Upon leaving we never got an excuses or something. So to end my review, the rooms are clean and good, but the service is not well enough.

Four stars for 4* accommodation
I picked this place because it was close to the old town walk outlined in the Lonely Planet guide. This was my first location in Morocco and so I asked for a pick up from the airport as well. At E20 this was roughly twice what it would cost in a taxi but I could guarantee that I would be taken where I wanted.
The Riad is peaceful. I slept very heavily in the shuttered, silent rooms. The roof space was pleasant in the early morning and evening and Nofal was an excellent and generous host. He even drove me to the station for free to buy a train ticket.
As with all of Morocco, user reviews are a much more accurate gauge of value than price. Given my three-week experience in the country, I would say this Riad is in the top decile in Marrakesh, worthy of 4 stars as a four star Riad.

Quiet, safe, reliable, good power, reasonable internet. 
Dislikes:
You will not find it without being met. The walk from the Riad to the Jamaal el Fina is along a busy narrow road frequented by mopeds.

A peaceful haven on the edge of the old town

We had a lovely 4-night stay in January at this Riad, 5 minutes from Jemaa el-Fna. It is central and authentic and the staff are all extremely friendly and helpful.
I cannot wait to return, highly recommended!

An Oasis of Calm

We stayed at Riad Chacha Lalla for three nights during a long weekend in Marrakech. 

The Riad is located down winding streets, unable to be accessed by car, so initially our taxi driver was very lost! Having asked a few locals, the driver dropped us off in a square and pointed us in the right direction. We only had hand luggage so initially dismissed offers of help from local boys, but then a man told us he worked for the Riad and lead us to the door. However obviously this was a lie as he then wanted money, and wouldn't leave until we gave it to him! 

We were welcomed by a lady who spoke no English, who showed us to our double room (Malikia - fairly small but big enough with a nice en suite) and gave us our key. She also gave us a map and marked on where the riad was. We explained in our little French that we were going to go to the Jemaa El Fna and so she got her bag and walked with us halfway. 

We had breakfast at the hotel everyday - something different each time from thick pancake like things, to bread and jams, pastries, fried eggs... Always with a pot of coffee and delicious freshly squeezed orange juice. 

The man who watched the hotel at night was friendly and helpful - again not speaking much english. He booked us a taxi back to the hotel and also brought us mint tea some evenings, which was lovely! He even did us breakfast to take away on our last morning so we had something to eat at the airport. 

The Riad is perfectly located. It's peaceful and quiet yet only a 10 minute walk from the main square. We walked everywhere - so it was perfect.

Peaceful place to stay within walking reach of the main attractions...

My girlfriend and I stayed here in December last year.

Being in the Medina it is initially hard to find, however once you have got your bearing it is easier than most as it is close to a small square.

You will be shown by young boys as to where the Riad is and they will take your bags in a trailer. BEWARE no matter how much you give them, they will ask for more (as with everywhere in morocco). However you come to realise that it is not because they are rude people, they are simply a lot worse of than us and try there luck. On most occasions 2 MAD is enough which is less than a 50 cent. 

Upon arrival we were greeted by a French speaking women who's English was no existent. I feel as though it shouldn't be expected for everyone to speak English, and for us, this was no real issue, however the property does advertise themselves as English speaking and this may therefore cause issues for some guests.

The first room we were given was much smaller than expected. It was only when we were told we would be in a different room the next night that we realised we were in the wrong room. 

The second room (superior) was on the top floor and meant we had the entire roof terrace to ourselves which was a great asset.

When speaking to other guests we found out that we were paying more than double what they were per night. We booked through booking.com and therefore I would recommend contact the Riad yourself in order to get the best deal.

Overall for a real culture experience I would recommend this Riad, however just be prepared that the English spoken from the staff is very limited and in some cases non existent.

Mixed Opinions

Me and my partner stayed here for 5 days, it is very close to the market square with a lovely little court yard with a pool and a roof terrace with comfortable sofas and sun beds, the staff are very friendly and speak fluent French they will do anything for you, would definitely recommend that anyone who visits Morocco to learn some French as this is the main language other than Arabic, we had breakfast every morning whilst at Chacha lala which was lovely with the most awesome orange juice, we had dinner one evening cooked by one of the lady's at the hotel which was awesome. But quite expensive it is cheaper to eat out, the guy who watches over the hotel at night is very knowledgable of local bars and was able to book us taxi's when needed.

Lovely stay

While very discreet from the oustide street: Chacha Lalla's open courtyard with swimming pool , dual-storey roof top terrace and knowledgeable staff provide authentic Marrakech riad living and great Morrocan welcome.
