My husband and I stayed for 4 nights. We were warmly greeted on arrival and given refreshing cold towels and a welcome drink. The staff spoke basic English and were very willing to help. 

We were allocated a ground floor double room which was spacious and had all the amenities we needed - kettle, safe, hairdryer, bottled water, mosquito net. The bathroom was spacious too with modern fixtures/fittings. The shower was hot but lacking in pressure. 

Breakfast was limited. The dining area itself had some ornate features but looked out onto a brick wall on one side, which was a bit grim. We ate at the 88 bar/restaurant next door a couple of nights which had tasty cheap food. There was little else in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.  

The pool area was relaxing and towels were provided. Day trips were offered for $35 per car. 

All in all, the hotel offered excellent value for money and met our needs. 



Excellent value for money

A lovely hotel shame about the location however is nearer to Mandalay Hill and the palace. But Palace is an hour and half walk, looks nearer on map but dont be fooled. Clean and large room in a very quiet location. Very comfortable bed with robes and slippers, safety deposit box, TV, and balcony with outside lighting and chairs. We didn't use the pool as never saw it cleaned but did lounge about it. Eighty eight is a restaurant next door which does good food. The hotel breakfast was minimal but OK. The bathroom is a nice wt room with glass seperation from tolielt and sink. Free bottles of water everyday too. Staff are very nice and friendly. 15000 kyat to Mandalay Hill and back with a few stop offs for restaurant. And 8000 to U Bein Bridge again with stop offs. And 8000 to the bus station. TV has a few stations and if they change it in reception then it cab gets your channels to theirs which was a but annoying. But lovely hotel just far away from alit of things. 

A bit far away from things 

The Esperado Hotel, is located a bit out of the way from the city centre, however you can get cheap taxis, Tuc tuc. Our room was very nice, though the only service was to make the bed, we didn’t get clean towels or coffee, tea etc topped up, though we could of asked I guess, the staff were friendly enough. The grounds need a little tlc, the pool was dirty and was green with the amount of algae, albeit the staff emptied it and started to re fill it, though would have needed a deep clean; I can imagine that when the hotel was first built it would have looked amazing. A few health and safety where the pool is concerned, as you have to walk past it to get to the rooms, it could be quite dangerous as quite a slippery surround that you have to walk on, there are no rails and there is a big plant that hinders as you walk past the pool, very dangerous for adults let alone children, it would be wise to move the big plant away from that area. I’m not too sure if the hotel had new owners when we arrived, the young woman didn’t know how to work the care card machine, which I helped her with, not a problem, though the internet isn’t always working and they had been having issues with the card machine, I had been asked to pay for the room in dollars, though I didn’t have any I offered kyat, but paid by card as explained. I wish the family well, with this hotel, as they are all very sweet. There is a beer station right next door, which is handy, but closes around 22:30, it did get quite busy with locals, who were all very curious and very friendly towards us.

Searching for a hotel that had a pool thinking this would be nice after hot days of sightseeing,  Well the pool was Green and told Ok you can still swim,  Sorry I have a pool at home and going for a swim no way I'm swimming in that.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and spoke English?  But when I tried to confirm what they told me using the same words in English they had know Idea what I was saying?
Booked a pool view room with a mosquito net over the bed,  Had no water at one point in the morning and water pressure very poor normally.
Breakfast was made to order from a Breakfast list like at a B&B,  That's fine I don't mind this,  Cereals, Eggs and toast, Fruit.

Location of the hotel is on the side of Mandalay close to Mandalay Hill, Royal Palace,  Worlds biggest book area,  Warning don't try and walk to the Royal Palace it is about a 7km walk to get to the Tourist entrance,  You are supposed to take your Passport to enter, Hotel key or 5000bt deposit will be ok as well.  A 10 minute walk to the river is an experience seeing local life and go later in the day to watch the Sunset!

Limited restaurants in this area,  2 we found and with very good food.  The Golden Duck looking across to the Royal Palace wall,  Very classy and cheap,  Popular with the locals as well.
The second restaurant is right next door, A wonderful cheap place to eat with great food and cheap beer, Go up stairs to the roof tables,  A true local restaurant loved it.  The cheapest food we came across with a high standard served fresh and hot like it should be.
Not knowing how big the serving are we ordered 3 different main meals,  I had 630mil Mandalay beer bottle and my wife a cold Lemon drink(real lemon) the bill was $3.20 US. Amazing!
 
I can't indorse a Hotel I haven't stayed at but there is one closer to the centre and has a rooftop infinity pool and also around the same price,  Starting with Y!
 The location is more in the suburbs and it interesting walking around with people washing in concrete laundry bays on the street.  
I don't completely understand the reviews people have written and knowing what the hotel is like and the location, We wouldn't of stayed here. 



I didn't dislike this hotel just wished we booked somewhere else.

The building in essence in nice but badly maintained. 
The pool water is murky and the pool area is messy with a lot of stuff lying around and lots of leaves from the (beautiful) trees surround the pool. 
The room was okay. The beds very comfy and clean but the bathroom was horrible. 
The toilet bowl was worn out so it seemed 
as if the person before you forgot to flush a number 2. 
The shower tab was lime scale-white (warm water with sufficient water pressure though) and plumbling visibile behind the toilet, covered with dust and spider webs. 
The staff seemed really nice but spoke no English which led to hilarious scenes at breakfast (ordered 2 omelettes, pointed it out on the menu and got 1 omelette and 2 sunny side ups, a cup of coffee and a cup of tea per person served at once etc). 

The hotel is located outside the center and not in a nice street, which would have been fine if all of the above was okay.
