Stay the hell away.  We had bed bugs in our room that we found during the first night.  The front desk person swore up and down that we were wrong (even though we'd found dead bugs) and insisted that they would do another sweep of our room while we were out, replace all the beds, and absolutely guarantee to us that for the second night there would be no bugs.

We reluctantly accepted the offer and stayed another night (of our 3 night stay).  After night 2 several of us woke up with bites and found several LIVE bugs.  We told the front desk person who tried to get us to stay for our final night anyways, and eventually refused to even issue us a refund.  We had to book a hotel for our final night stay (which wound up costing us $500 for a last minute booking) and we had to throw out half of our clothing to avoid bringing a bed bug infestation home.

I tried to dispute the charge with my credit card company (because literally we got bed bugs) but Heart of Amsterdam fought the dispute and insisted that even though we had bed bugs, because we still slept in the room we were not entitled to any type of refund.  Let me state that again.  They agreed that we had bed bugs but insisted that because we slept there, we were not due a refund.  WHAT??

Seriously, don't risk it.  Bed bugs can be impossible to get rid of.  This place has a nasty infestation, hides it, and refuses to take responsibility.  STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Bed bug infested dump - 2018

Wonderful Museums/culture, especially the technology presentations of Van Gogh paintings at his museum (don't miss it); & the Riijicis Museum; & great architecture.And fine helpful people in the hotels & restaurants.                  But the streets are packed with under 50 year olds on bikes & they absolutely feel you should not be walking in their streets (or riding in an Uber). Some will aim their bikes right at you , in the crosswalks & on the side, narrow streets. They glare or yell at you for crossing wherever they happen to be going. And City fathers are helping the kamikaze bikers with their long range plan to close all streets in the downtown/tourist areas. Many are already closed, making Uber rides hard (& some bikers try to hit the car doors, to scratch them). Google says Amsterdam has the highest European rates of pedestrians being hit/maimed, or killed--anywhere Europe. You can not relax & find  a stress free world & vacation in Amsterdam. Don't risk the future of your body just for great art & culture. We would have left the first morning if the air tickets & hotel penalties were not so expensive.

Only stayed here for a night but was very pleased with my stay. Located by the red light district so it was easy to get to different places in the city from the hostel. Quirky but cute layout since i believe it used to be a theater? Rooms weren’t super breezy but they did have fans so that was nice and relieving! Staff was knowledgeable and helpful, keep in mind that breakfast isn’t included

Nice and Simple

very crowded place, if you want to take picture in front of this sign you should go there in very late night or very early in the morning, I exedently got in to the street market there, and had some Dutch food - the bread with spices and fried pork pieces on it, it was one of the delicious food I had there

Worth it! So accessible...

I was there for short holiday last week. The staff was polite. I asked the change the room in ground floor and the staff was happy to find another room. And I got the new room even I am late to ask.
Location is amazing.Breakfast was OK.Bed is OK.Bathroom is clean and bigger.Price quite expensive for that hostel but worth its because of Location. Wi fi is very fast.

Friendly and flexible staff 

This is the first review I’ve ever left for somewhere and think it is terrible when people tarnish businesses online but my god this place is absolutely horrible. It is a complete dump, the rooms are hotter than a sauna and the facilities are on par with a 3rd world country’s sewerage system. 

There were someone else’s underwear in the shower when we checked in. The beds were worse than the cold pavement outside. 

This is honestly the worst place ive ever seen or stayed at in my life. 

If you have a booking come up I’d change it ASAP as no one deserves to go through what we did. 

We had 4 nights booked here and checked out early into a hotel. 

The noise from the above rooms coming through the floors and the noise from outside were unbearable.

I booked this accommodation and i received  confirmation email to say that it was booked and the money was to be paid on the day, i arrived at the accommodation with my friends and got turned away leaving us stuck for accommodation!! They informed us that there was no deposit took from the account and that they had sent through an email to cancel the booking. (ON THE DAY OF ARRIVAL). Bare in mind i did not recieve no emails from them! in the email or even when booking there was nothing mentioned about a deposit!! So just be careful if your booking to stay here with a crowd of friends they might knock you back! Dont understand why have rooms that accommodate up to 6 people but when arrive they knock you back! Abs apauling service i am so dissappointed and i will deffo be warning people when booking accommodation for amsterdam!

Very disappointed!!

Location was great but hostel itself is a bed bug ridden mess. Bathrooms are dirty and dark stairwell with steep steps to access room. Doors off of the street led into the room were only secured by a small bolt and we had one guy let himself into the room while we were in there. Stay away. 

Avoid...

I stayed one night at this hostel. It's just 2 minutes walking from Dam Square. I was afraid it would be noisy at night due to being located in the middle of the red light district, but it was very quiet at night. I slept like a rose! The dorm was spacious, the bed had its own plug and built-in night stand, so I could safely put my watch and cell phone near my head. The staff was super friendly and helpful when I asked for an invoice. Breakfast was nice. Two kinds of bread, eggs, cereal, milk, juice, coffee, tea, different kinds of cheeses and meats, Nutella, jam etc. 

I would stay here again for sure! I loved it! Just one thing: there is no elevator. Please keep that in mind :)
