Private accoms in Amsterdam usually have steep prices, but Botel Zebra was one of the more reasonably priced accommodations we've seen and we've always wanted to try staying on a boat in Amsterdam! The rooms are small, but you have a private bathroom per room which we wanted. We're 170cm Asians and we fit well. Miss Ann, the Botel owner was very kind and hospitable, she even suggested a few places to eat around Amsterdam for us.

Boat living for a good price

We booked 3 nights here,decided not to stay one night. Rooms were tiny,dark,stank, horrible decor,one plug,no toiletries,no ventilation,Sheets/towel looked dirty and old,Upper deck looked ok, awful...

You get what you pay for

My friend and I came as two young travelers fresh out of college. We are not creatures of comfort, and really valued the untraditional experience of staying on a boat. We had a great time! The location is great, as well as the view. Our bunks were comfy, the room was clean and fresh every day. The free breakfast has everything you need from eggs and yogurt to various meats, cheese, coffee, etc! The hostess was the best part of our stay. She is so caring and accommodating, and genuinely cares about the guest. If you come to this place with the understanding and expectation that it is in fact a boat, you will have a great time. If you are expecting a luxury hotel, this is not the place for you. Also a note: the steps are very steep and small to get down to the rooms, so if you are uncoordinated or have limited motion, keep that in mind!

Really great stay, awesome value

This is one of several boat hotels down at the docks where the Science Museum is located, 20 mins walk from Centraal station. The host was lovely and very helpful. We arrived early and she was happy to let us leave our bags if we had to go out, but ended up getting our room ready before we left. There is a common area where breakfast and drinks are served to wait in. The drinks are reasonably priced and the breakfast is a good continental selection. The rooms are tiny but this is to be expected for this type of accommodation. You have bunk beds, toilet, sink, shower, port hole windows, shelves to put clothes, and that's about it. Oh and a plastic stool to get you up on the top bunk, no ladder. Only one power point which is slightly annoying but again you get what you pay for. 

If you are very large, very unfit or have difficulty walking you'd probably want to avoid as the stairs are very steep and narrow, and getting in and out of the beds can be difficult, though once you're in they are comfortable enough. The rooms were clean and tidy. Overall I'd recommend if you're looking for a cheap, central location as long as you don't mind the physical limitations of the rooms, stairs and beds.

Good price for a great location

We were only in Amsterdam for two nights at the end of a trip to Germany and the Netherlands. We chose this because of its perfect location and just because we get to say we slept on a boat in the canal. Very close to everything. The price was inexpensive and the lodging reflected that. Our room was tight. I slept on the top and my 6'7" boyfriend slept on the lower berth. It was tricky but we made it work. The hostess was very friendly. We bought some inexpensive beers in the upstairs dining area (they have a full bar) after a day of wandering the city and enjoyed looking at the city lights on the water. The upstairs area closes quite early which wouldn't be a problem if the wi-fi worked anywhere else but there is access after hours to get to your room. 

I can say I now know what it's like to sleep on a boat in the canal. Unique, crowded, a bit musty but different. I've checked that off my list and I probably wouldn't repeat this unless I need cheap lodging in the city centre for a night or two, max. Breakfast was OK. There was a selection of cold cuts, breads, spreads, cereals, fruit, coffee, tea. The fruit was from a can and the cold cuts were of lesser quality than I like but I'm just being picky. We were happy to have it and absolutely loved having breakfast on the water with such views.

Location, location, location.

Extremely friendly hostess, she couldn’t do more for us or anyone else during their stay. The room was small and compact but it was perfect for what it was and as expected. It is not somewhere to stay for more than a couple of days, but for the price and the welcome and care myself and my friend received it was definitely worth it!

Great stay!

We wanted to experience how it felt to stay in a botel. 
It said early check in but the host told us by early check in she meant that we could keep only our bags. Couldn’t understand the logic. 
Extremely tiny rooms. Good place if you are trying to just crash in the night.

Excellent sunset from deck with affordable drinks!  Hostess was incredibly friendly.  Breakfast buffet was beautiful.  Economy lodging with small boat sleeping quarters and weak wifi.  Would stay here again!

Please do not stay here.not fit for animals.The room stank of damp.the floor was wet and the radiator was off.Tried to get an hours sleep when i arrived but the smell was too bad.The first night of my booking i went and stayed somewhere else.Went back to this so called botel the next morning to see if i could claim any money back for the rest of my stay.Got told no chance.so stayed somewhere else again.I would rather sleep on the streets then stay at this rotten.disgusting pit.Please if you are contemplating staying here then bring a wetsuit to sleep in.
