A fun experience staying on Vita Nova in the heart of Amsterdam. It’s a boat and it moves from one mooring dock to another every few days. That was one of the highlights of our stay, as they had to dismantle the fly bridge and lower the large Bimini in order to pass under the bridges while sailing along with not much more than 5cm to spare.
But it was the seaman Raphael with his energy and friendliness and how he kept order and took care of everything that really deserves 5 stars. 
It is a little like rough camping, showers are tiny with nowhere to hang your clothes  out of the shower water. Nice selection of goodies for breakfast, nice large saloon and they allowed us to store our suitcases before and after having checked out.
I would definitely come again.

Floating moving hotel

We were given room 4. From other reviews, it seems we may have been given this room due to our british nationality, or maybe that's just coincidental. It was one of the worst places I've stayed in. It became so bad it was funny. The smell of diesel when you stay in this room is overpowering, gives you a headache and sticks to your clothes. The floor moves about and gives you motion sickness even though the boat is still. 

I've given two stars as the bedding looked clean and the room had been cleaned. Overall, this was 'memorable' 🤣

Avoid if you don't like sleeping in diesel fumes

Let's say their advertising is "generous" at best. Very basic accommodation with 2 bunks crammed into a tiny space at 90 degrees. 2 rustic toilets, one with a shower which is nothing more than a slightly larger toilet with a nozzle on the wall and a hole in the floor.

There's a comfy enough sitting area which also serves a decent continental breakfast  ib the morning. There's also an open deck on top for smoking.

It's a budget hostel, so serves as a roof over your head for a night or two without breaking the bank. But you absolutely get what you pay for.

VERY basic at best

I tried to cancel threw booking.com. Had to cancel for april 2020. Booking .com cancelled my booking for me and asked vita nova for a refund . They charged 50euro cancellation even tough ireland had went into lockdown. Disgrace as the biat had also moved location from when i booked to a completly terrible location one day before i should have arrived

Stay away from the hotel - they are typical money makers! They sell rooms on boats which are closed because of COVID, and on arrival you get a totally different room than the one you had booked. They changed my  reservation one day before arrival without even asking me and handling  against the  policies of booking.com.. Instead of a signle room with a window and a nice view, I was cramped in a room with 3 beds, and a bull's eye - virtually no access to natural light. Horror! For months they have not reacted to my complaints. Make a booking somewhere else.

Stay away!!! Definitely not recommended!

If you're staying for no longer than 2/3 nights and don't mind frugality, this is the right place for you, even if a bit overpriced. It's quite a peculiar experience, but I honestly would recommend it for the summertime, especially because the cabin is well-heated but both the corridors and the bathrooms (which are shared) are not: by the way, the sink inside the cabin is pretty convenient. The cabins are small to the point that, if you're not alone, you'll have quite a hard time moving at all. Maybe we were unlucky, but our cabin had a terrible smell (fuel, I guess) we couldn't get rid of; you won't notice it anymore once you have been inside the cabin for more than ten minutes, though. Also, be mindful of the fact that you'll hear pretty much everything happening around you... One can never stress something like this enough.

Something worth trying (if you're not too picky)

We will come back here once again for sure! Nice atmosphere,delicious breakfast  and the guy that greets us is really really nice ,and help us with everything for what we ask him.

Really nice place and polite staff

Having our stay on a boat was a great experience. Althought the bedrooms were small, they were cosy, clean and close to the city center. Our recepcionist Case made the most of our experience. Hope to come back.

Good value for money

PROS - The boat was docked 15-20 mins walk from central and perfect location for walking into town. The decking was great to sit and look out. 
They provide a free breakfast with toast, spreads  eggs and ham. Coffee, tea and juice. 

CONS - The rooms were tiny. We had a bunk bed. There were a few suspect speckled stains on my bed sheet and a period stain on the duvet. There was a basin in the room but with only hot water. The toilets were unkempt and I wouldnt have considered washing in there.

For the price you can't expect too much and if you're staying for a Friday night then its one of the cheapest options in Amsterdam.

Great location but far more basic then I ever imagined.

Absolute best part is location for the price...and an adventure besides. Docked in harbor right at the NEMO Science Museum. Only about a 15-20 minute easy walk to Amsterdam Centraal. Very nice and helpful staff.  Breakfast 8:30-10 am, exceeded expectation. Great coffee (better than cruise ship we got off of!), tea, milk, juices, toast, cheese, several meat choices, you can fry your own egg, butter, jelly, peanut butter, nu-tella. Rooms are VERY small as you would expect on a boat, but had very comfortable beds and a sink. Bathrooms are shared. Upstairs had a toilet room and one room with toilet and shower. Downstairs bathrooms are newer and larger. Bring your shower shoes. There was a cross section of ages. There was noise when people came in late, but ok. The dining area has a refrigerator to share and a microwave and there is a large grocery on route to/from station with lots of selections for easy preparations. Sharing the area brought conversations with fellow travellers that doesn't happen in most hotels... lots of different languages! We stayed five nights and it worked very well for us.

Come with correct expectation & it has great value for the $, with great location
