Good for travellers on a budget. If you just need a place to sleep and shower this is for you! 

The cabins are very small but it’s clean showers and toilets are clean although toilets smell abit of sewage. Can hear EVERYTHING so not good for light sleepers.  Can chill out up stairs (tables and sofas). I can’t rate the breakfast as I slept in, doesn’t offer tea or coffee or any refreshments (even 
water) outside breakfast hours but :-) I’d stay again as it was in my budget and I only needed a place to sleep and shower I was out all day and most of the night…… 

A vending machine is definitely needed for this place.

Horrendous!

Overall I loved staying on the boat but it was not without problems the worst being the disgusting smell of the septic tank that seemed to be venting directly into cabin 10 alone with a noise like a giant food processor twice this happened in the middle of the night and I heard guests retching (lucky I have a strong stomach).  WIFI was advertised but didn't work.  The breakfast was fine and it was nice to have tea and coffee out all day.  Sven was lovely and very helpful.  It is a bit cramped and shabby but it is cheap and a wonderful location and very relaxed.  Showers warm enough and the beds were surprisingly comfortable

The room we had was filthy and we saw 4 cockroaches on our 4 night stay in our room and the breakfast/communal room. There was thick dust on the floor in plain view so no excuse that it wasn't seen by owners. Dogs running throughout including the kitchen during breakfast servings. Owner and friends smoking at kitchen door which you could smell in breakfast room. 
I approached them about the cockroaches and they seemed surprised and asked if I was sure. I showed them a photo I took of one of them on floor and the dead one we stood on the first day we turned up. They agreed it was cockroaches and they made a big deal of searching our room. It felt like they were saying I was lying. 
There was no access to the kitchen or fresh water except during breakfast. I had to ask if they could leave the kettle out in the breakfast room so we could at least make a hot drink during the day/evening. The only time we saw the host was during breakfast. 
The beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. 
They had radiators in the rooms but it was so hot the first night when I woke in the morning I couldn't breathe. No ventilation except the portholes but you couldn't really sleep with them open as 2 of them are right where you sleep.  Then a couple of days later there was no heating so it was freezing. Couldn't see host until the next morning. 
This trip was the worst trip I have ever had to Amsterdam. I usually stay in hotels which are immaculate
I stayed here with my daughter and we both came home really ill.
I wish I had read the reviews before we booked.  We were glad to get home but now we are suffering.

Worst place I have ever stayed

Absolutely disgusting boat, no running hot and cold water, bacteria laden showers, squeaky doors, dirty beds and windows, terrible breakfast and rude and abattoir staff. no maintenance carried out at all for years it seems. 

There is a groups of boats on pier three owned by the same cowboys. 
I would advise staying somewhere else, as this is quite possibly the worst hotel in Amsterdam.

The boat is in a decent location and the main lobby is very nice and cosy. The free breakfast is pretty average but it's quite nice to have a sit in the lobby and have a coffee. However, that's probably it for positives. 

Firstly, my room. Yes it was small but I knew that going in, so no issues with that. The issue comes with the floor. For some reason (I think condensation) the floor was constantly wet. This didn't change with the radiator on or off. The bunk bed was long enough to fit me and I'm 6'3. 

The communal areas were very hostel-esc and the showers were quite a tight fit for someone my size. 

The main issue for the low score is simply the noise. Out of the 3 night I slept on the boat I probably managed 9 hours of sleep in total. The walls are extremely thin and you can hear everything. Couple this with a few loud individuals and you're in a for a rough time. The doors to the rooms bang and when they do, the entire room shakes. The boat has a sign asking guests to respect the 'quiet times' but this is not enforced and guests are free to make a much noise as they like. If you think you would simply complain to the staff then good look finding them. I saw only one member of staff and that was during breakfast for all of 20mins each day. After that, they vanish. I wasn't greeted upon arrival or any time I was sat in the lobby. 

Overall, a well priced accommodation with a good location. But the noise is simply unbelievable. If you're going to stay here, I honestly would reccomend ear plugs and that is no exaggeration. I wouldn't stay here again if I had the choice as similar priced accommodations are in the same area. 

If you are looking for a friendly atmosphere in a quiet place just off the centre for a great price then this is definitely the place to stay. This boat has a great atmosphere if you are willing to contribute to it. It's in a quiet setting overlooking the East Dock. The rooms are compact but comfortable and clean and the breakfast was a typical, serve-yourself cereal/toast/juice/tea/coffee/eggs/cheese/ham and enough to set you up for the day. Bob, the boat resident is a happy, helpful and very friendly guy, always willing to make sure you're enjoying your stay. The people we met on board were mainly young people but we had a brilliant time and met some fabulous people from the Spanish travel reps from Ibiza to the lady (closer to our age!!) from Belarus stopping over en-route to the US to visit family, to the young guys from England here for a good time - we loved meeting them all and it made our visit, to celebrate my friend's 'significant' birthday a brilliant experience. We will go back. 

Great place to stay

GOOD VALUE, Great Location, Nice Adequate Breakfast, Easy Casual Stay.
JUST be prepared for tight small cabin with bunk beds, low ceiling with pot hole window, shared toilets and showers.
TIOLETS unfortunately need cleaning later in evening as get trashy and smelly, excess water in showers flow into passage walkway of bathroom, so wear shoes or flip flops as they will get wet or contaminated in toilet area.
Onboard a nice sitting communal area but gets too warm on a hot afternoon. Outdoor picnic table's seats on wooden pier.
Walkable To Central Station, Convenient Store and Main Old Amsterdam & Adult District / Coffee Shops.

Good Value, Tight Cabin with Bunk Beds & Shared Toilets/Showers

This place has amazing charm and quirk about it, it's an overly comfortable stay as the walls are thin and the communal shower isn't great. But overall for the location, a small but comfy bed and breakfast we couldn't ask for more. This place is very much down to the other guests your on board with they can either make it or break it. But we we're so bust during our trip that this place was just a place to crash. By saving on the hotel we got to do more things in Amsterdam with the money saved.

Not the Ritz but ideal for busy young tourists - Amazing location

I honestly can’t really fault my stay at all! Reading some reviews and looking at the pictures online I was a bit skeptical about staying on the Amicitia. Me and a friend booked it last minute as a cheap and short get away to Amsterdam, tbh we didn’t really know what to expect... 
But honestly I’ve been blown away by the stay on the boat. Absolutely amazing value for money. The whole place is clean and tidy, the staff are friendly chilled and very helpful, the whole place just has such a great atmosphere! I can’t rave about this place enough. 

And yes the rooms are small, you can hear people talking and yes the boat does in fact smell like a boat!! But your not paying for the high end hotels, no not at all! But honestly I believe we got a lot more for our money and the breakfast is amazing if I do add! Great coffee too! Would highly recommend to anyone travelling on a budget and it was the perfect place to stay to explore the city for the first time! Loved every minute, I will be returning to Amsterdam and when I do I’ll be returning to this amazing boat! Thanks for the best experience Amicitia crew ! Can’t wait to come again.
