On walking distance from Centraal Station this fine place made my wife’s and my stay in Amsterdam unforgettable. We could eat at the best restaurant in quite a while, and the hosts were real nice people that we always will remember for their hospitality.

Perfect location at very quiet neighborhood. Night was very peaceful and calm. Nearby to all the attractions. Just opposite few grocery store and number of restaurants and bars are around the corner. Host is really friendly and perfect for everyone.

Great Host & Perfect Location

Great value for money, excellent hosts and location! I would totally recommend this host and accommodation to anyone. Host are really kind and helpful, breakfast was good as well as facilities in room (bed and linen comfortable). Bathroom and toilet are separated from each other and sharable with one other room. Very clean!

Great value for money, excellent hosts and location!

I'd extended a business trip for a few days because I'd never been to Amsterdam before, so wanted to see the city.  Looked at the price of the hotels and couldn't believe it.  "Sleep At Amy's" gets listed on a number of travel websites, seemed to have good reviews and was altogether a more reasonable price for the 2 nights I wanted.  There are two rooms - the blue room is smaller but looks out onto the street - the yellow room is larger but has French doors which open onto a small terrace - not much of a view out of the back but being able to let in plenty of cool fresh air at night (particularly in summer) was perfect.  I booked the yellow room for my 2-night stay.

Basic amenities in the room are a wash basin and running water, a refrigerator, table and chairs, filter coffee machine, kettle, double bed with 2 thin quilts (so you can throw one off if too hot...), clothes hanging rail / shelf, some hangers, plenty of clean towels and a floor-standing fan.  Amenities outside the room are a shared toilet cubicle and a shared shower cubicle, both with lockable doors and light-switches on the wall outside.  The room is lockable - you're given keys to the room and the front door downstairs, so you can come and go as you please.

The double bed is very comfy by the way - not too hard or soft - pillows are a "medium" and with 2 think quilts, I could throw one off if I felt too hot.

The house has 3 storeys - the downstairs has been partitioned into a shop - the first floor is where the rooms are - and the second floor is where the couple that own and run the house live - Gordon and Amy.  Upon arrival, I was greeted by Gordon - a very friendly chap - he shows you up to your room and volunteers to carry a bag or two up the (very) steep staircase.  Gordon was very helpful - I'd run out of a few essentials but his local knowledge is excellent, so he pointed me to a few shops just minutes away which was great.  Didn't get to meet Amy.

The location is perfect because it's not right in the city centre but it's only a few minutes walk in - walking East, grand central station comes into view in about 6 minutes (I timed it).  Plus, the Anne Frank museum can be reached in about 10 minutes - walk East to the first canal you come to, and turn right - then keep walking and it's on the left side of the canal.  Plus - following the road East takes you past a number of shops more useful to you as a traveller than what goes on in the city centre - small supermarkets, fresh coffee shops, bakeries and patisseries, etc. - I think there's even a Subway just a few yards away.

The room comes with continental breakfast - this is in the form of milk, orange juice and yoghurts, etc. in the fridge and fresh pastries, cake, biscuits, etc. in the plastic keep-fresh boxes on the table.  Everything is there for you upon arrival, and whilst you're out the next day the boxes and fridge get restocked for the following morning. 

I missed having a TV to relax in front of - the hotel I'd stayed in for the first part of my trip (business) had UK TV channels.  But I found an ex-pat TV app for my phone, and sat and watched an hour or so each evening just to unwind before going to bed.  There's free Wi-Fi available with no bandwidth or download limits.

I think I paid around 235 Euros for 2 nights - about 30 Euros up front through the booking website and the rest in cash when I arrived.  But compared to even some of the less-than-desirable hotels, this was pretty much half the price.  The agent for the property is Xavier Hollander and she contacts you by e-mail after you book to tell you about payment, etc.  At the time, I replied asking about storage of my luggage after check out on Sunday (as I had a late flight home and wanted to do a full day's sight seeing).  But I chatted to Gordon and there was no-one due in the room for another day, so I had full use of it until 4:00pm which was great.

Overall - recommended, particularly if you're on a budget or want to maximise your spending money rather than wasting it all on hotels.  Definitely a better way to feel part of Amsterdam I think.

Nice quiet room in a quiet location - just the place to chill after a day in the dam...

Good value for Amsterdam. About 10 min walk from central train station. Gordon was very helpful, especially getting our luggage up the narrow staircase. Room is large, not fancy. Bed ok. View nada. Breakfast is cold ceral, bananas, yogurt, danish/rolls, jam, and butter.
