The location is great, next to a "gracht", close to the main station, the street and houses are beautiful. 
The welcome was friendly, the room clean and the bathroom modern. The owners offer a nice breakfast, and we really appreciated that.
And now the BUT:
- You may get a room in the basement - the photos online do not at all represent the view we had. So the room is really dark!
- When lying in bed you will sense a faint smell of humidity - not really bad, but also not so nice. But understandable when you realize the room is on level -1.
- The whole bathroom was under water when using the shower.
- As it was really hot these days the owner's girlfriend and her baby twins slept in a basement room close to us, leaving their door to the hallway open all night (probably for fresh air). The baby twins' crying kept us awake all night. To make it very clear: We LOVE children, but we find it quite hard to accept that we payed more than 200 Euros PER NIGHT and cannot find any rest at all.

We would recommend that you really check whether you will get the basement room with no view at all before you book - 200 Euros per night is way to much for this!

Some light - and LOTS of shadow!

Room cost us over 200euros each night. The bed was very nice and the room was spacious at a great location. But the breakfast was at best ok. Manager left a note on table for us collect food from fridge. There’s some meat, cheese, juice, toast and croissant. It’s certainly nice. But at this cost you can rent a high end hotel room even in Amsterdam. The manager was friendly but no real personalized service you’d expect from B&B.

Not worth high cost

My 11-year-old daughter and I just stayed here for 3 nights - I can't recommend it highly enough and am so glad we booked here instead of a hotel. We arrived late at night, yet it was a short and safe walk (just a few mins) from the central station and it is quiet, yet so central - easy to walk to anywhere you need to and we hired bikes from a 3-minute walk around the corner too. Gijs and his family made us so welcome from the moment we arrived and their home is stunning - they have clearly put their heart and soul into the renovations and have such an eye in terms of decor. We stayed in a beautiful bedroom, where we had everything we needed (and more) and the breakfasts were to die for. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Truly wonderful place to say

Gijs is an excellent host of this elegant, spacious accommodation in a perfect location, being very quiet but near Central Station and a huge variety of restaurants, making this an ideal choice for a trip to Amsterdam.

Homely contrast to staying at a hotel

Gijs has a perfect hospitality and smiley face and he try his best to help. Breakfast was very good and fell like a home. Location is in city center and easy to reach from Airport with a train. No need to search an other locations to stay.

Perfect Location, Perfect Hospitality

This was a BIG WIN for me!! I usually don't stay at B&B properties (I tend to stay in boutique hotels in the center of a city), but decided to take a chance on this location. I was NOT disappointed! This is a private home in the very center of Amsterdam just an easy 5 minute walk from the main train station, yet not touristy or overcrowded. You can get everywhere by walking a short distance and its location on the Singel canal was absolutely stunning!  My suite was large and modern, with everything I could ask for: large room, lots of storage, HUGE bathroom with double shower, very clean and modern, lots of interior lighting. Every detail was top notch! There was a large flat screen TV and a small fridge to store perishables. 
The home itself is spectacular. The owners have been restoring this home over the years and have done an outstanding job! The architectural details are amazing, the overall feel is comfortable yet elegant at the same time.
The people were AMAZING!  The owner, Gijs and his family, made me feel welcomed and a part of their lives. Our morning conversations were totally enjoyable and touched on many subjects. Gijs could not have been a more accommodating host.
I almost want to downplay this property so that it doesn't become too well known or popular, but I cannot do that!!!! I hope that when I return to Amsterdam I can stay here again.
Gijs and his family have a standing invitation to contact me in New York whenever they travel there!

A GREAT Place to stay!!

This place! Host Gijs offers a tastefully decorated canal house with modern, new rooms.  Double shower, flat screen TV, mini fridge, coffee in room, quiet yet central to everything.  The breakfast is huge and delicious.  It offers the true Amsterdam flavor with steep stairs and tall windows yet was remarkably soundproofed and exceptionally comfortable.  Highly recommended.  

Intimate, gorgeous, quiet and central.

We normally stay in Hotels when we travel, this was much better than any hotel, the room was large, well decorated, facilities were fantastic, Gijs was a perfect host, breakfast was plentiful and delicious. It was clean, convenient and great value for money, I would without doubt recommend "The Old Lady" to anyone. We loved it and will be back at some time, we will not be looking at any other accommodation!

“Dont look anywhere else, this ticks every box.”

I chose the The Old Lady mainly because of location near the central station. It is less than 5 minutes walk away from the B&B which has a beautiful position at Singel Street next to the channel. Loved the place - very warm and friendly welcome, my room was lovely (great bed and pillows!), large bathroom and everything very clean and well taken care. The breakfast room was really beautiful with its painted sealing and beautiful view to the channel. The meal itself was great as well starting from the fresh orange juice and fresh croissant to selection of hams and cheese and fresh fruit salad. 
Personally I try to avoid "normal" hotels as much as possible and "The Old Lady" was another proof how many other wonderful places are there to sleep during your travel. Strongly recommended! :)

Perfect for every B&B lover

Our room was upgraded to the deluxe double which was lovely. The room was below the pavement but what the owners have done is incredibly clever and we loved it!! defiantly 10/10 for innovation!! 

The staff and the owners family (the actual owners were not available as they had just welcomed a brand new set of twins into the world - congratulations again!!) were amazing and so friendly and helpful even providing us with umbrellas for the unexpected down pour that came! 

we had a double shower which you could alternate between a waterfall shower and a normal shower and the mini bar was well stocked and complimentary.
