There's not enough eyes in your head to fully appreciate the design of this place. From the moment you walk through the front gate, it is a full on assault on your vision with bright colors, textures, knick-knacks, mosaics, tromp-l'oeils and a mish-mash of furniture and accessories. At first glance, the whole thing looks cobbled together by a very dedicated DIY-er. Possibly it is, in a good way.

That DIY-er must be the owner Ruud. A cheerful local, happy to share his many stories and tips on the city. Do check out his home-made walking tours through less touristic parts of Arnhem, available in the room. Even if you don't plan on walking them, they make for a remarkable read of loving-but-harsh criticism on the city, mixed with personal experiences. 

Besides all its quirkiness, Drijfpaleis offers a very comfortable stay. Very big room with stunning views over the river, a very nice bed and spacious bathroom with nice warm shower. The breakfast, brought to your room at 9.00 sharp, is tasty and enough to help you through most of the day. The location, with the city center only a nice stroll away, is top notch. With big balconies and an equally curiously designed garden available, I can only imagine what a great hang this 'll be during warm summer days.

Nice details in the rooms include loads of books, a guitar to play, a record player with some vintage vinyls and binoculars to inspect the riverbed on the other side. The minibar is well stocked and affordable, coffee and tea are included and cat Hendrik is around for cuddles if needed. 

It's not the cheapest stay, but I doubt you'll find a cooler one.

After the owner contacted me on a previous question I had for a stay over,.... he very suddently decided everything was different and where we could stay there for two nights at first he decided with NO explanation to cancel our stay! Very strainged, tried to contact him on different ways..... but everytime he just hang up on me,... very rude very unprofessional, still have no idea why he canceled...

poor communication!

I'm sure it's a fabulous place (the photos look great, likewise the reviews, which is why I still gave 4*), but before you book you should be aware that you have to arrive before 8:30pm.   We're disappointed but forced to stay elsewhere.

Drijfpaleis is an ,other story , a story of a Man with passion and Love , love for what he is doing ; his Art and his home in which we were lucky to spend three nights . this man is called Ruud not rude because he is the nicest host i ever met , saying thank you to him one million times would not be enough , and going back there will always be a future dream .

Went here a couple of times, and was overwhelmed everytime by the fantastic decorations, beautiful views and friendly host. Very spacious rooms with everything you could possibly need and more. The lovely breakfast is served in your room, so you can enjoy it in bed or on the balcony overlooking the river Rhein. Once you've been, you never want anything else.

amazing, creative and welcom

Me and my wife are living in Amsterdam. We decided to go for Iraon Maiden concert, and we were looking for two night accommodation. We been looking for a wile, and decided to go for thos little b&b. That was a bull's eye. The owner was super flexible with our arrival, and he was extra polite. In the morning he did not to long, to bring oir breakfast in the room. Plesure was staying there. All the informations we neede he provided to us. About the room. I ahd a feeling that I have been back in time. In a big qonquering era,discovering new lands. It is undescribable for me. Thank you one more time for your kindness, and help. We will be back soon enough
