This grand house is directly across from a farm-like park (with cows, no less). We stayed in the suite on the main floor that looked out on the park and its enormous water fountain. The suite was originally the living room and dining room for the house and there were beautiful fireplaces in both rooms.

The bathroom situation is a bit odd, but charming. There is a small space with a door for the toilet, but the shower and sink are located in the corner of the bedroom with a cloth screen as a separator. There is a sink and refrigerator in the living room. Next to our room was a full kitchen that could be used by all the guests.

Breakfast was cheese, bread, salami, fruit and coffee. Very ample.

Our host, Jaco, was very warm and knowledgeable about the local roads and things to do.

Only complaint: the matrimonial bed is just 2 single beds pushed together. Not very comfortable

Beautiful location.

Character property. Lovely basement apartment with plenty of space for a family of 5. Very friendly and helpful host with excellent English. Opposite beautiful park. Approx 15 minute walk to town. Would highly recommend.

Lovely

This beautiful old home has been renovated into several nicely appointed and decorated mini-apartments, which rent at a very reasonable price, particularly if your stay is a bit longer.  The beds (even the pull-out sofa beds) are very comfortable -- one had automatic controls to raise and lower the mattress.  And this is the very first European hostelry we have ever stayed at which provided face cloths -- very cute terry bath mitts.

The host is most helpful and accommodating.  He is a font of information about the area.  The location is great -- right across from Sonsbeek Park and within walking distance of a supermarket, the station and several restaurants.  Easy driving distance to major area attractions like the Openlucht Museum and Kroller-Muller Museum and national park.   We had no trouble finding free street parking for overnight and Jaco provided a parking permit for short term parking during the day. 

Let Jaco provide breakfast -- he puts out a great spread of eggs, meats, cheeses, spreads and breads, plus coffee, milk and juice for just €5 per person.  (You do need to clean up after yourself though.)

Marvelous host!

We stayed on the ground floor in the apartment facing Sonsbeek Park. Even in late November this spacious apartment was lovely and warm, very comfortable and well-equipped. Jaco welcomed us on arrival and made sure we had everything we needed. He happily answered all our questions on the area and translated menus for us. He was a superb host. The bed was possibly the best we have ever slept in. Nice linens and all very clean. The location is fantastic with the most beautiful Sonsbeek Park across the road with several cafés and dining options in the park and the shopping centre is an easy 10-15 min walk down the road. A supermarket is 5 mins up the side street beside the house. Arnhem is a beautiful city with an incredible history and we wished we had more than 4 nights there. De Burgemeester itself is in an iconic house in a street that has many lovely buildings. Parking is difficult in the side street so most of the time we parked up the road by the park in a free parking area but the area is safe and it really wasn't far to walk. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again.

Great location, lovely apartment, friendly hosts

A very welcoming host who greeted you upon arrival and made sure you were settled in. A clean and tidy apartment which was well placed to explore the locality and provided value for money. Be advised at time of my booking for our apartment there was no mention of the steep staircase as this was in the basement. This may not be suitable for those of limited or restricted mobility. Also, there was no dishwasher or washing machine in the apartment as given in the description.
