Just got back from a lovely trip with Shearings.
Although the staff were very welcoming the hotel was not as good, my sister and I had separate single rooms, very small and extremely hot and stuffy as windows only opened a few inches. No air conditioning or fan, the rooms were very dark and dated but on the plus side very clean. The first night requested a vegetarian meal which consisted of peppers and onions, was a no no, 2nd night was an omelette that resembled scramble eggs, breakfast was basic, cereal, what looked like toast, jams, thinly sliced meat, beans and sausages. Requested for a fan 3 times and finally got one on the  last night very late. Would I stay at this hotel again, not by choice but would if Shearings stayed on a different tour as it was faultless.

just arrived back from the hotel De Halve Maan under new management rooms clean bathroom basic but ok food hot and good water in bathroom very hot enjoyed our stay quiet location not much in village but it was lovely

Holiday

I went to this hotel during a Shearings holiday, it is in a quiet location. The room was quite small, but had a comfortable bed. The bathroom had a shower but was not very powerful. The breakfast was buffet style with some hot food. Dinner was waiter served. The stairs to the room were steep and narrow, so less able bodied people should use the lift. Recommended.

Stay at hotel

This is what you call a budget hotel its clean but the food is very limited small portions and i am not a big eater my sister and i had to go shopping to find a mug each so we could have a decent cup of tea the cups were like thimbles, watch when you have your wine they try and give you the better wine at 2 vouchers each glass but you can get half a cariff for 4 vouchers and the wine is ok.the rooms are very sparce and there was no aircon so it was roasting because we went in july when we had very hot weather, its a family run hotel and most of them were very friendly, would we stay here again NO!!!!


very budget

We've just returned from a few days here on a Shearings holiday.  Nice clean and comfy, basic hotel.  Food very good though shame no water served with meals.

Pleasant village to stroll through in the evening but seems strange that Shearings based us here being located the hour's drive from Amsterdam as back and forth there each day.

Good stay

I Stayed here 3 nights with some family members on a shearings coach holiday, staff were very friendly and the food was lovely and very tasty rooms bit dated but nice and they were very clean would go back again

Lovely family run hotel

It was a 5-day coach holiday with Shearings and it was a most enjoyable experience. It was a long and tiring journey in getting to Bovenkarspel, reaching the hotel after 9:00pm in the dark. Therefore, Sunday evening for us was a quiet affair with a couple of drinks in the very British-looking bar before calling it a night and heading up the very steep and narrow treaded staircase to our room. If you are big-footed (size12) like myself the stairs would have to be taken very carefully at the De Halve Maan, but I found it was much safer taking the lift. The weather was very kind to us on the Monday and Tuesday, when we visited the sights around the Zuiderzee, but when leaving Wednesday morning the heavens cried a deluge and we had to make a run for it to board the coach. The rain relented on the way to our overnight stop in Ostend, but then came on again with a vengeance when reaching the holiday port destination. It kept us indoors, but thankfully all rooms had free Wi-Fi, so we amused ourselves on our iPads until it was time to shower and get ready ready for the evening meal. Thursday found us racing to the Port of Calais and our appointments with French and UK Border Controls. The French weren't bothered and allowed us all through without stopping, but the UK was a snaking queue and took a little time to get through. Crossing the Channel was no big deal and an hour and three-quarters later we were at Hythe's Stop24 and our connections with 'feeder' transport, which took us old pair back to Stretton in Cheshire.
