The rooms are clean and also the shared space such as the toilets and the shower.
The room also includes an electric kettle, some coffee and tea and a hairdryer.
Please note that although the place does provide a towel for each guest, it does not provide toiletries such as soap or shampoo, so make sure to bring your own.
The owner is extremely nice and helpful and gives good advise with a smile.

Very friendly and cosy hostel

Friendly owner, yes. Service is very good at the enclosed bar yes (9 am-18pm!), This bar promises a good atmosphere, but soon you go to the door of what supposed to be a hotel, things get worse rapidly. 

On check-inn one gets a rapid and accurate tour and introduction. and a key to a front door that needs to be closed at all time. So a front door and a room? No desk whatsoever? Hotel or Hostel?
 After 18hrs (and before 9am), your'e on your own. No food, no bar, no service, nothing. only the guests. And they can be noisey these guests. One can follow conversations next door. So also bring plugs if you need your rest for a bike tour.The rooms just fit 2 small single beds and a sink. It is the soberest of soberest, and outdated as well. Bring everything of personal hygiene yourself, except towels. There are towels.  Note: Most accomodations are more or worse expensive, but for this price we always had a room with toilet and shower, anywhere, till now. Even in Paris. There are 2 shared shower/toilets on the floor, 1 mens, 1 womans. (up to 24 guests to share with in the morning) I think swimmers eczema, excremations etcetera. Yes it is mentioned on the homepage. My bad. But I think guests of this hotel are taken advantage of. Only if you are used to Hostels this could be a step up. 

I had at first no problems with location and the sober lay out. But the fact that in this village, and the hotel, there is absolutely no noise control, no nightwatch and no real sanitary hygiene struck me after mentioning my sleep deprevation because of the inhouse noise, on checkout. The owner obviously was not able to even listen to what we had to say and this was by far the quickest check-out ever. Very accurate and within 2 minutes. We will come back to beautifull Texel, but we won't put a foot inside Hostel Friends ever.

Pentecost weekend @ hotel "Friends" Texel, Hostel or Hotel?

Small rooms but clean hotel, very nice service, quiet, everywhere close and prices are not too high. At the bottom of the building is a small pub. Beds comfortable. Bathroom outside rooms, cleaned daily.

Very good place

Small room with shared amenities. There's a wash basin in the room which looks brand new. Location is perfect, beds were comfy. I think de Koog is a party town in summer, but in October it's pretty quiet. Bike rental, supermarkets and tons of restaurants around the corner. Very close to the bus stop as well. We had a very warm welcome (after hours, made arrangements) from the owner. He serves one of the few decent coffees you can find in town.

Simple and well looked after

Myself and my husband along with 2 friends stayed here Sat 2nd Jan '16. The hotel is very basic but clean. We booked two rooms. Our bedroom had two single beds with a sink and tea and coffee facilities. It is perfect for a one-two night stay to explore the Island. There was communal bathrooms with one toilet and one shower. There was no queue for the shower, but I wouldn't like to see it during peak season! 

The hotel is in a great location, a short walk to the bars, shops and restaurants. If you are happy with a very simple but clean room and don't mind sharing a bathroom then its a good place to book for a short stay.
