Excellent hotel in the old city centre of Dokkum. Got a free room upgrade, welcoming drink and snack. Very friendly staff and excellent room. Superb breakfast and had one evening dinner which was also delicious. Highly recommendable for a great stay in Dokkum.

Two nice nights with Madam.

De Abdij was the perfect  place to celebrate our yearly Christmas dinner with friends. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and they all seem to love what they are doing! Very gratifying! They had meticulously prepared a big table for 16 in the wine cellar where we were served a six course meal with a wine arrangement. Everything was delicious and every plate was not only a thrill for our taste buds but presented like detailed  works of art. The hotel is cozy, stylish, impeccable and very comfortable. We will definitely be visiting again soon!

Fabulous dinner and stay!

WOW....
I can pretend that I did travel a lot already, but I have not been to any place before with such a charming and dedicated service. It all started with the check-inn to the hotel, where we have been greeted by Lisa who was very friendly, took us to our room and gave as a first introduction to the hotel and to the very nice and pleasant city of Dokkum. All of staff is very kind and polite without any exception. This goes for the receptionists, the servers in the restaurant as well as for the housekeeping team. Compliments to all of them!
We had booked a Junior Suite, a very nice room under the roof, with the only inconvenient for me since I'm quite tall, that I had to be careful not to bang my head against the wooden beams of the construction supporting the roof.
All of the facilities of the hotel are very clean and well maintained.
The restaurant of the hotel, "De Waard van Dokkum" offers excellent surprise menues, with a great choice of wines but also very good beer brewed by Chef Michael. The kitchen staff did pay intention to my wife's lactose intolerance for all the dishes we had. The same was the case at breakfast were you are served with their home-made bread and yoghurt.
In summary I can tell that we did feel very welcome and comfortable at this awesome hotel where we could enjoy the dutch hospitality which wouldn't be possible without all of the friendly, dedicated stuff.

Awesome...

We really liked this hotel: the rooms are beautifully arranged. Very tasteful decoration, also in the bathroom. Very kind service and storage room for the bicycles, including charging points.
Only inconvenience is the absence of airconditioning but there is a fan.
The breakfast was not really up to the same standard as the rooms. You get a tray and there is mostly bread. Some of it was not really fresh (sugar bread was really dry).

Beautiful hotel

From the booking confirmation I had a feeling that I was going to like this hotel. These guys & girls have it right. Total customer satisfaction focus, thinking outside the box and anticipating your needs. Even before you arrive.  Accommodation, blown away. Forget how clean was the room, that will never be an issue! Breakfast more than acceptable but definitely eat there in the evening.  Not sure who is behind the menu and execution but intend to find out on my next visit. Sophisticated, doesn’t come close, has to be experienced. Every member of staff I encountered excelled, EVERY MEMBER.!!The Italian born Sommelier is so passionate about the hotel and “his” wines, you can trust his judgement without question. 
Location perfect. I will be back soon.

In the top 5 hotels I have ever stayed in!

This hotel has a super central location near the ice fountain. The breakfast is served at your table in a high ceiling stilish and spacious room. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Our room had a king bed that slept very comfortable. The room had two windows, a view of the church but no screens to keep the flies out. It could benefit from an airco in the summer.

Central Dokkum luxury hotel with super duper breakfast

Stayed for one night on a business trip, and loved it. Superb welcome, charming team, and a huge room (suite 5). The décor is beautiful with amazing Pilat & Pilat oak furniture throughout. 
I can't wait to go back with more time to spend there.

Wish I'd had more than one night

We used to go to  Ternaard. When we wanted to book that again, we found out it has closed down. After a little search we found the same owner in Dokkum where he opened  a new hotel and restaurant. The hotel is very good and comfortable. The beds are excellent. The shower, wow, that is what you want! The restaurant is fantastic with very good biological food. The owner and chef of this hotel/restaurant knows what his guests like. He started again in Dokkum where he stopped in Ternaard. We enjoyed every minute of it. Staff is the same. Very friendly and gentle. We were very happy to have refound this hotel/restaurant in a different city. Will certainly go back. The only  negative about it is that there is no parking space. Not far to walk but with a walking disabillity like mine its a challenge.

Very good hotel and excellent restaurant

What a gem in such a beautiful place. Our room was spacious and comfortable. We were greeted in such a friendly and courteous manner. We didn't want to leave. One very nice part of our experience was that we met a few locals in the hotel bar and had a great time conversing with them. The food was great too!

What A Gem!

We spent two nights at Abdij. We had two of their "comfort" rooms in the newer building, although we were able to experience the ambience of the adjacent historic building during meals in their noteworthy restaurant.

Our rooms were clean and efficient. They provided a baby cot for our use. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful at check-in and throughout our stay. 

This hotel is in the heart of Dokkum and an easy walk to all of the local sites. Reasonably priced, it will be our hotel of choice when we return to this beautiful town.
