Hotel within easy walking distance from the centre of town, rooms at the back overlook the small canal and are the quieter option. Free parking across the street. Some rooms only accessible by stairs or in separate building next door. If you stay there you will need to go outside to go to breakfast.
Beds are narrow single beds with duvet. Shower in bathroom a little inconvenient, as they make the whole bathroom wet.
Breakfast okay, with tasty bacon and scrambled eggs. Forget the coffee as it comes from a thermos flask and was not really drinkable.

Good location, rooms not great

Our room was in a separate building to the restaurant which had recently been renovated - it was still needing some work due to the delays caused by Coronavirus - and was in the eaves with a tiny balcony, with chairs, overlooking the canal. The tiny bathroom was well equipped & attractive. There were tea & coffee making facilities. It was a rainy September evening when we stayed but I could imagine our room might be noisy on a lovely dry evening as it, & the balcony, overlooked the restaurant’s outdoor seating. The room also is without any space or hooks to hang clothes or jackets. The restaurant was super with a nice ambiance & good food, overlooking the canal. Breakfast was a very simple continental served at the table, which made for a pleasant change but I feel they missed an opportunity to serve something hot or at least interesting. The staff were friendly & most spoke English. There is free parking. 
The Coronavirus rules were not excessively apparent.

Lovely location, great restaurant but small, simple room & breakfast.

The location is great and probably the best in Franeker. There is a painting of a Lynch Bages-bottle in the restaurant so that was a great sign. Service is really friendly. It was a very hot day - 34 degrees! - and I was unpleasantly surprised the wine was the same temperature. I asked for a medium+ ribeye but it was really ‘well done’. So great location, great staff, warm wine and a spoiled ribeye. Fair enough: I didn’t complain about the ribeye since you can’t turn a well done into medium+ and I didn’t want to waste meat. 

Great location, sub par dinner

This place was an awesome surprise. Old building with tons of heritage. The hospitality was genuine and friendly. Nice location out in the country. Quaint little town! I posted a picture of the menu which will provide the options. Everyone in our party were totally satisfied with their meals.

Great Dutch food

The location near the canal is very good, but the rooms are not worth the money we pay for them,
The view of the canal is very nice, but we hear the noise from the other rooms, which is not very good.

to expensivo for the place

What a quaint place to stay. The hotel has everything you would expect in such a location, a picturesque position along a small canal with various boats coming and going. An outside area to relax, have a drink and watch the activities. The room was adequate and was upstairs with an outside area also for enjoying the scenery. The food was first class and the breakfast adequate. The staff were most helpful, and the hotel has a convenient car parking area across the street. We were fortunate to be there when there was a festival, and the whole town was alive with people, old cars and other activities. The hotel is within walking distance of the centre of the town, which has attractions such as the Town Hall and planetarium both going back many hundreds of years. Canals surround the town since this was once had a defensive barrier where the drawbridges were opened to stop invaders. All in all a very comfortable hotel, which is recommended because of its position and the uniqueness of its structure.

Frisian delight

We stayed four nights at this delightful hotel/restaurant. Our room was lovely, the breakfasts and dinners excellent, the service was efficient and friendly. We loved our time here and we were made to feel special.
