We booked a holiday home (Plevier Comfort) at De Witte Raaf on the advise of a family member.  We had previously stayed at Duinresort Dunimar but we're advised that it was worth paying the extra for the Witte Raaf. (big mistake)
We checked in early September for the week and were allocated 137. I had a bad feeling the moment I put the key in with a lose handle and stiff lock. There was no child bed or high chair which had been paid for so back to reception. I also asked for a safety gate for the top of the dangerous spiral staircase for our 18 month old granddaughter. A man came quite quickly with the bed (dusty an broken) and high chair (harness partly broken) and the gentleman pushed a sort of fence at the top of the stairs and warned that it was not very secure. We asked for a sheet and duvet for the child bed. He had no duvet but promised a sheet and some cable ties to secure the fence. We asked him if we could move but he said we couldn't because the park was fully booked.  The man never returned with the sheet or cable ties. We complained and a couple of days later received some cable ties which were far too short to secure the fence.

The house was really badly maintained and not clean. The houses are privately owned; some are OK but ours was definetely not.
We compiled a list of 50+ issues with the house. Some were a minor inconvenience, several were serious especially on safety issues. We wrote to Noordwijk Vakanties who manage the site but they choose not to reply.
Here are some of the main issues

- A very steep spiral staircase with sharp metal edges on the outside

-No child safety gates installed. A fence was provided but it was totally inadequate.

-The bathroom door on the landing opens outwards exactly at the top of the spiral staircase. If anyone opens the door while someone is outside on the landing they will be knocked down the steep spiral staircase.

-The cot had a broken hinge mechanism causing the ends to sag down. There was insufficient height on the sides to safely contain the child. 

-No fence along canal at bottom of garden. We could not sit outside on the patio for the fear of our granddaughter drowning.

-The shower door was badly fitted. When showering the water escaped through the gaps onto the bathroom floor, then it flowed on to the landing and down the spiral staircase.

-Shower and sinks were slow to drain. Air extractor didn't work.

-Cables for the bedside lamps slung above the pillows.  Extension cables were later provided but were a trip hazard.

-The were no cupboards to hang clothes. A metal rack was provided but the screws holding it together were lose or missing. It kept collapsing.

-General maintenance was poor. e.g. broken patio table, loose door handle, stiff door locks, dim/ not working lights, scruffy paintwork, damaged flooring, poor quality cutlery / pans / crockery / towels, few and badly placed electric sockets and superficial cleaning. Service staff didn't turning up when they said they would.

-Even though we paid  for ‘end cleaning’  you are expected to strip the beds, leave all linen and towels in the hall, brush the floors, empty the bins and cupboards. If you fail to do this you will be charged euro 60 for each item not done. 

-The charges for missing/ broken items on the inventory list are very high.

We didn't  make further complaints while in the house as we doubted if it would make any difference. Also we thought we would be labelled trouble makers and lose our deposit (as mentioned on other tripadvisor review).

Run down and dangerous with small children

Chipped furniture, empty picture hooks, faded curtains smelling of cigarette smoke, ripped sofa, dirty duvees, neglected garden. And this for the amazing price of 904 euro's for 4 days. What a rip off.

Very expensive, dreadful house

On our arrival a comment of " you are on time"!! said the receptionist!! We explained we've come off the night boat from England with a 9 month old baby and were hoping we could check in a little earlier than the stated 16.00 hrs.  They were happy to take our money and all details and plan of the villa were given to us.. We looked around and noted that our villa had been cleaned as cleaners were just leaving! On our return we reported back at reception at 15.50 hrs and a grumpy man then running the reception saw us and looked at the clock and made us wait till 16.00 hrs. So rude definitely not a good way to start a holiday. We  have stayed here on 2 previous occasions and staff have been very accommodating. It has obviously changed hands as there is no flexibility with them now.They lied as they said Thursday is there big change over day!!! We were there 12 days and the villas that were occupied,  changed over at various days depending on the length of time people stayed. The Villa was nice fairly spacious accommodating  8 people but there were not enough wardrobes/chest of drawers in bedrooms. The  kitchen needs another tall cupboard to enable you to store the groceries - food shopping. It felt like camping in a Luxury Villa.
The area is good for visiting the beach, is in walking distance 20 mins, Nice restaurants nearby and the village as a few good shops and supermarket. Lovely cities to visit Leiden - Den Haag - Madurodam Delft- Amsterdam Good train service available from Sassenheim. Parking still free at the moment. Took us 25mins to get to Amsterdam.

"Luxurious Villa" run by "grumpy" and abrupt staff in reception

I recently visited with my partner and another couple and we stayed for a week. The location is ok, close to a small village. The problem was the staff. I have worked in hospitality for 27 years and never have I had to endure such ignorance.
The man working in the reception area was nothing short of a waste of oxygen. On our first day we asked if he could call us a taxi to go to Amsterdam. He appeared offended that we had asked him to do something and refused to call the taxi. I was outraged.
Any interaction with this guy was a constant battle. Paying our deposit upon arrival, out he comes with his hands behind his back, stared at us and informed the receptionist quite loudly to "keep an eye on those people." I speak Dutch and he obviously thought I didnt. 
He almost ruined our trip and since returning to Ireland we have been charged for not cleaning our dishes. We never even used any.
These people should be ashamed of themselves and I would strongly recommend to anyone considering staying there to look elsewhere. Appalling.

Rude, abrasive and ignorant

We recently rented a bungalow for the weekend to visit the Magnificent flower displays at Keukenhof. The area nice but were VERY surprised when the (grumpy) receptionist informed us that there was an additional non refundable charge of 130 euro's for laundry and cleaning. CLEANING ! We were informed that WE had to clean the house before leaving otherwise ANOTHER charge would be made on our payment card. Towels were listed as INCLUSIVE and were NOT in the accommodation and when we asked for them he TRIED to charge for them AGAIN and we finally managed to get them supplied. Property clean ,area nice but beware of hidden charges on top of a quite expensive part of Holland.

Nice but beware

We stayed in one of these houses at Christmas time in 2014 and were impressed so when we were all coming again in April 2016 we didn't hesitate to book again but this time were very disappointed. 

We booked in the same way as before through booking.com and paid the whole amount online up front as before but when we checked in on this occasion we were shocked to find we had to pay considerable extras . Firstly we had to pay for linen for all the beds - no- where did it state this had we known we would have taken our own especially if we had been aware of the incredible price . In addition there is a big cleaning charge that must be paid up front ? Is that for the cleaning before we arrived because the literature advises that if we didn't clean and strip the beds on leaving there would be an additional cleaning charge !!?
When we challenged this the reception staff were very unhelpful stating that it was the fault of booking.com but we booked with them last time and did not have these charges.

When we saw the house we were disappointed. We realised that the interiors of the houses are different possibly because some are privately owned ? This house was very basic and unlike the first one we stayed in only had one toilet which with 6 adults was inconvenient. 

We have family who live nearby and we travel to this area three to four times a year and were hoping that we had found somewhere to visit every year but disappointingly we will not be coming back.

 Too many hidden charges- BEWARE

We had a great house with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Beds are made at arrival, good for my wife! Clean en fully equiped.
Garden with furniture. 
Quit surroundings near forest and See.Wifi just not fast  enough but alright. 
Ladies of the Reception helpfull. Difficult to get by train or bus to Amsterdam. Just used car.
Noordwijk is a beautifull place with nice restaurants on the beach.

Near Beach and Amsterdam

This is a section of the Netherlands close to the sea, distinctly rural - no noise, little traffic, the beach nearby. On the other hand is Amsterdam so close that one can go there for the evening. The cottage had three bedrooms, clean and neat; the small garden bordered by canals. Ducks were free-ranging and waddled right up to the doorstep. With rented bicycles we were free to explore the countryside along lanes reserved for to-wheelers. We had to by groceries in Noorwiijkerhout; that was about 10 minutes away per bicycle. The kitchen was equipped with a microwave oven and a refrigerator, but the rest of the kitchen appliances used only gas, no electricity. Fortunately there are several excellent and inexpensive restaurants in the immediate vicinity. 

On the downside, the Wifi was slow (but they are working on it!), - but functioning for a small fee.
