We stayed with 13 friends in the family home of Dina and Bennie at the beautiful farm in the ‘middle of nowhere’ in the lovely country side of Friesland. An excellent place to re-connect during a weekend to friends/family. There is a cozy living room, 6 bedrooms (some with more than one double bed), an ok utilized kitchen with 2 fridges, an over and a 4 pits stove (and when something is missing the owners are more than willing to assist). Outside were two terraces with wooden benches (so you always would be able to enjoy the sun). The weather was cold when we stayed in the farm but the heating made it warm and comfortable. The only minus point we experienced was the cleaning. The place was rather dusty (and with spider webs) and not all kitchen material was clean. We first had to wash glasses and plates before we were able to use them.

What can I not say about the Logement? The only downside to this place is that I ate too much food because of the kitchen-wizard Dina. But she was only half the team, as Bennie's expert knowledge of whiskey coaxed me into becoming a fan of Highland whiskey. 

And that was just the start, on our first night at Logement Doosje. The rest of our time there has given me a newfound fondness of Friesland and The Netherlands in general.

So now for the review: my partner and I stayed at the Logement for our get-out-of-the-office week. We are delighted to say that our stay very well exceeded much of our expectations of what a bnb could be in Friesland, and we will happily be making another booking soon. 

We stayed in the Kirkuil Room, which is loosely translated to Barn Owl, which if you look carefully, you can see it in the rafters of the idyllic barn where the rooms are located. This is the closest room to the public area fireplace where many of the Logement's high tea's, dinners, and whiskey workshops take place, so it was nice to be close to that. While our room was splendid, we spent a lot of time just sitting around the cosy fireplace, which felt like a room in an 1800's Scottish highland home. This was especially fitting with Bennie's wide whiskey collection (one of the biggest I have ever seen). 

To walk off the amazing high teas, large breakfasts and great Dutch cooking, the Logement has its own attractions as a nice homestead escape from the city. My favorite was the two cute goats that were out the front of the place, one of them loves affection. 

How was the food you might ask? Unbeatable. Many come to the Logement just for Dina's home cooking, which has given me some new favorite tastes such as Dina’s black spaghetti pasta with beetroot sauce and nuts, as well as the Italian pasta with sundried tomatoes and olives.

So what is there to do around the Netherland's north? We were able to explore a lot of the surroundings of Friesland, which if you ask Dina and Bennie they will point you in some pretty good directions. Some of our favorites were the unique towns and areas such as Zoutkamp, which is a small little fishing town with beautiful buildings and a nice terrace to sit in. Of course, much of our time was spent at the Logement Doosje sitting in the comfortable chairs in the back area, enjoying the sun, watching the sheep, and getting some well-earnt rest.

Warm, romantic, rustic and the ultimate restplace

Great hosts, delicious cuisine, and perfect atmosphere - thanks for a wonderful vacation! Placed within a relaxing rural landscape, Warfstermolen for us was a great starting point for day-trips to Schiermonnikoog, Groningen, Leeuwarden, and Lauwersmeer (national park). Don't miss out the Whisky tasting with Bennie!

Room was wonderfull, clean. Bed is super, loved the bathtub.
Dinner and breakfast are good and with lots of local produce.
The surroundings are stunning.
Tip for the owners, have some bikes available for a nice ride

Romantic and relaxing

First of all, quick response during the booking inquiry! I like to make sure things are in order specific to our needs during the trip before we book. A quick and clear response is always helpful in making faster decision. It makes planning easier. My husband and I stayed in the Steenuil room. It had a living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and a HUGE bathroom! We had a beautiful view of the landscape right from our living room, which was my view the entire time I was studying in the room while the husband was at work. The locally prepared meals were scrumptious! They even hosted a cooking class for the family that was staying in the other guesthouse. AWESOME. ADDITIONALLY, Bennie had an extensive collection of whiskey that he can educate you on...which lead him to understand what taste I prefer and gave a recommendation which was perfect! Did I mention that I was actually able to healthy during this trip? ALWAYS A PLUS! Even if it was a bit windy, I was able to walk around, enjoy the surroundings, and make friends with the animals. Haha! I really enjoyed my time here and my husband would say the same. Oh, I almost forgot about the common area with the large fire pit with relaxing big chairs to hang around in with your whiskey. YESSSS! Lastly, there is a big family house that can be rented out. I can imagine it'd be nice to be here for the summer as they have outdoor seating and a proper BBQ. Dina and Bennie were perfect hosts! Highly recommended!

Beautiful, country, local living and eating in Friesland! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for relaxing time by yourself or others!
