We stayed here for 4 nights in June 2022.
We have been to this hotel a few times before but thought I should add a review.
Each time we go back the owners have improved and invested in their hotel.
It has a fantastic resident chef and a stylish lounge/ dining room.
The owners are super friendly and look after us like we are family members and not guests. It a wonderful place to stay. There is a lot to do around the area and a great location to stay and do nothing if that is what you want ..!
All of the staff are lovely people and skilled at their roles.
We live it here and will be back next year…!

Lovely family run hotel

Stayed here 2 times in 2 months. Both stays were really good.

Friendly people at the reception and good service. Rooms are basic but well equipped. There is a nice restaurant / bar in the hotel. Good service here also.

WIFI is good and included free of charge.

The breakfast is charged for. There is a nice variety of options. Good quality.

Great option to book when you are in the area for business or pleasure.

Clean and modern rooms, a nice bar cum restaurant with EXCELLENT food but the best point about this hotel is the owners.

Much better than expected

I had the pleasure of another weekend at the Hotel Het Wapen Van Drenthe when the Dutch Moto GP circus arrived in Assen once again.
Having been a regular visitor for the last 30 years it is good to see that the hotel has continued with its modernisation plans but not lost any  of its charm or welcome.
The hotel is now being run by the third generation of the family and the food continues to be to a standard that many more expensive hotels would die for. The steaks are legendary and once again the friendly and efficient waitress was constantly asking if we had enough food or would like more of anything.
The rooms are as always spotless and the thin walls mentioned in another review have not changed but are not an issue generally.
Less abled people may find access to the bedrooms a problem, we have been going to the hotel for the last 30 years and the stairs get steeper every year I'm sure.
If personality and the personal touch are more important than 5 * luxury then you will not do better.

Another brilliant weekend!!!!!

Hotel "Het Wapen van Drenthe" is located in the village Roden, on the virtual border between the old "Brink" quarter (Roden is an authentic Drenthe "Brink"-village), with several interesting typical ancient buildings, and the modern center where city renovation has taken its toll. Luckily for the authentic feeling the hotel building is not a concrete and glass contraption, but hails from past times. There are only two narrow parking spaces on the hotel premises; however, the modern shopping street with parallel parking spaces starts at the hotel, a public parking space is speedily found. Parking in Roden is free of charge. On the ground floor the hotel restaurant is located. Close to the bar is the hotel reception desk. The hotel rooms are situated on the first floor, directly under the roof of the building. The hotel floor is reached by a very narrow and steep staircase; there is no elevator. On this floor the 15 hotel rooms are constructed. The way the rooms are constructed is directly related to the main setback in the comfort of the stay. The walls between the rooms are very thin; conversations in the next room are audible, not word by word, but you may be bothered by this. Furthermore, because the sides of the roof are not perpendicular, at least one side of the room is leaning a bit inside, making the small room even more cramped. Because of the lack of space, there are no cupboards in the room; clothes stay in the suitcase. Having remarked on the setbacks, I can recommend the lodging for cleanliness, the comfortable beds, the remarkable modern, spacious and spotless bathroom and free wi-fi. The breakfast buffet is sufficient for Dutch standards, but nowhere near the extensive buffets in German hotels.
