We have just returned from a five night stay here and what a fabulous place indeed! We stayed at the UK Woburn centre parcs a few years ago (outside school holidays) and cannot justify the extortionate price now my eldest is in school. A friend mentioned the Europe Center parcs and so I booked Limburgse Peel for the October half term for half the price of the UK ones! Even with the cost of the train to Calais and the bike hire and activities it was still cheaper than the UK accommodation alone. 

Further to that; the site was fabulous, the comfort cottage was comfortable, the whole place was clean, all the staff very friendly and helpful (not to mention how wonderful their English was!)! The activities we booked (mini golf, 4x4, bug hotel making, scavenger hunt, gnome trail, horse carriage ride, the electric family “car”…think that was it and the swimming; were all well arranged, very easy to organise and enjoy and not to mention very reasonably priced! 

The cottage was well equipped for what we needed, the bikes we hired were great and especially loved the lock feature, we mainly cooked our own food we purchased from the nearby Aldi (I never did master the “oven” microwave appliance but that didn’t matter). 

The differences I found which really added value were the free play areas dotted around, the petting farm, the kids disco, the nature bingo, the range of kids activities, the indoor play area by the restaurant, the fish/koi carp, terrapins, ducks and parrot which the boys loved watching and the general attitude towards the children. 

The aqua mundo was great and what really struck me was how much everyone was enjoying the facilities and there was no overboard health and safety warnings or restrictions like you find in England. There was something for everyone of all ages and it seemed really disabled-friendly from what I saw with access and even special chairs. 

I really cannot fault the park at all and think it’s a shame some of the previous reviews choose to point out areas for improvement (if you spend more money where it’s not needed then prices would go up for visitors!) plus you can’t please everyone and you can’t go around in life moaning for the sake of moaning. The park do an amazing job, the staff were all so lovely, the cycle Center is so well run and the staff knowledgeable and so helpful, the reception were so lovely and helpful, the restaurant staff were always friendly and available, the shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. I really cannot fault this parc at all and think they all deserve a huge pat on the back and thanks for their hard work. 

On the whole I really enjoyed the Netherlands and the Dutch people. It was such a lovely visit. 

My 3 and 6 year old boys have made the best memories along with us. Will be booking another European CP break for next October half term!

Absolutely wonderful!

We’re currently staying on site and agree with nearly everything in the detailed review below.  Shop is well stocked and nowhere near as extortionate as older reviews suggest. Restaurant offerings are slightly disappointing, but the Grand Cafe was again not as expensive as the reviews would suggest. A decent local beer for €6 is what you’d pay for an equivalent ale back home. 
The site shop sells everything you need to start two BBQs in a bag for €20, but you can get the same sort of thing at the Lidl in Horst for much cheaper (this is next to an even better Dutch supermarket - both are better than the Aldi in Horst.)
If you have a dog, there is a great nature reserve which can be accessed right opposite  the site entrance. Take the path in either direction (they join up) and  just beyond is a pancake house (open 10-6pm, weds to Sun in holidays, or just at weekends at other times). It’s a 15-20min walk from the site reception and a much better lunch option than what’s available in the Market Dome.  Just beyond the pancake house is woodland with a dedicated off-lead 2.5km circular dog exercise trail, plus other routes for walkers/mountain bikes.
Back on site, the terrace overlooking the lake is a great spot for an afternoon drink, although they close it at 5pm (reopening in the evening as part of the Grill restaurant, i think). 
The only thing we were disappointed with was the kitchen in our cottage. We’re also in a 3-bed comfort but there is no ‘small oven’ - just a hob and microwave with grill function. It is a tiny space with no sockets, meaning the coffee machine/toaster and kettle have to share a single socket just which is only just within reach of the breakfast table.

Great site, quiet and compact

We’re currently staying at Limburgse Peel and there are very few posts in the group with information about it for those considering booking, so here you go! Hope it helps. 

We’re staying in a comfort cottage which looks like it’s been recently refurbished. Everything is clean and the cottage is cosy, with two twin rooms where the beds can be pushed together or separated. There is a separate toilet and bathroom. The shower pressure is a little weak, but I like it so that you could pressure wash your skin off your back so this might not be an issue for normal people, nothing wrong with the water temperature though, good and hot and plenty of it. 

The kitchen is tiny and comes with an oven, fridge with an ice box and enough crockery and cutlery for our family of four. It also comes with a dishwasher, which we weren’t expecting, result! As long as you’re not expecting to serve chateaubriand and croquembouche you’re all good. You’re not allowed to bake bread in the small oven, which might be a disappointment if you’re auditioning for bake off, but we could live without it. I mainly cooked using the grill and  hob and we’re all still alive. Food storage space in the cottage is limited so be careful not to over shop. 

The cottage has a fireplace indoors that shares a chimney with an exterior fire pit that can be used as a BBQ, a fact I wish I’d known before I bought a small BBQ from the Parc Market. There is a BBQ grill included in the exterior pit. 

The outdoor area is secluded, much like in most Center Parcs where they carefully consider layout to afford privacy for each cottage. It includes two sunloungers and a dining table with four dining chairs. There isn’t a huge amount of space for kids to play in near the patio for our cottage, not sure if this is the same for all the cottages in the Parc. I’d investigate this to improve this review, but I don’t want to get arrested.

The cottage comes with a coffee machine, (I’m visiting with my 6 year old and 4 year old daughters, which might explain why this is high up on my list of priorities), toaster and kettle, all of which seem brand new. The bin is separated into three compartments for cardboard, plastic and general waste, glass must also be separated, so keep it apart from your other waste. 

The TV is great if you can speak Dutch, just like we don’t. There’s BBC 1, BBC 2 and BBC4. The telly does have HDMI ports for you to connect to a compatible device though. 

Sadly, Richard O’Brien was not there to greet us in the crystal dome, but I was there to start the fans, every time we went in… which my wife loved… ‘Can you start the fans… please?’ When Richard isn’t there, you can expect to find the usual Center Parcs amenities but on a small scale. There are three restaurants, the Grand Cafe that has a small menu including pizzas and burgers that cost between 15 to 25 euros for adult meals and 6 - 10 euros for kids, not including drinks and desserts. A pint(ish) of local lager is 5.95 euros. Slightly pricey I guess, but not as bank breaking as others have suggested. You can order food and drinks using QR codes on tables, which is as convenient as it is dangerous. The bowling alley can be found in the Grand cafe too. There is a grill restaurant with full table service that we didn’t try as it looked quite expensive at around 25 euros for an adult meal and 14 for kids meals.

There is also a fast food restaurant called Frittes Affairs, that serves ‘seasonal’ dirty fries. All of which sounds like it was written by E L James, but looked about as disappointing as reading 50 Shades of Grey. The current seasonal topping was Piccalilli and avocado, didn’t fancy that as much as my wife fancies Jamie Dornan so we gave it a skip. There is also a Breakfast place that does pancakes and waffles that looks pretty good, but we didn’t try it.

There are a few shops. The Daily Foodstore is not as cheap as Aldi or Lidl, but not so ridiculously expensive that it will put you off buying treats and essentials. They also refunded me in cash for my hastily purchased BBQ. There is a well stocked Toy Shop that also sells the sort of tat that people buy on holidays and then regret when they are packing to leave. The kids toys are pretty cheap and there were plenty of ‘sale’ items available. There’s a clothes shop for people who have zero sense of style…I considered buying some flip flops. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. There is an amusement arcade filled with flashing lights that promises prizes for tickets at the approximate cost of your life savings.

The Aqua Mundo is small, but perfect for small kids as it would be pretty difficult to lose them. My daughters are 4 and 6 and absolutely loved the wave pool, two slides (one small enough for very small children) and the lazy river. There is an outdoor pool but no rapids. You can use the Aqua Mundo at nearby Het Meerdal if you are looking for more excitement or a reason to crack open the first aid supplies. You do have to pay for this however. We didn’t, because I’m tight. We did have a nose though; it’s bigger in every respect, and there are certain activities that you can book for the kids at Limburgse Peel that you may have to go to Het Meerdal for if they book out fast. The pony trek for example, which the kids loved. 

There are a bunch of kids activities including t shirt painting, face painting and other crafts and a free disco with party games and entertainment all in Dutch, which we all understood perfectly after 5 days of watching the Dutch shows on our TV. 

The plaza is small, but the water feature at the centre of it was great, both of my daughters loved the giant carp that they named ‘Dave’ and ‘Barry’, with no encouragement from me. I’m a proud Dad. There are also three turtles, some ducks and a parrot that call it home, much to my daughters’ amazement. Dogs are welcome in the plaza and the Grand cafe seating area. There were quite a few around during our visit, which my youngest daughter loved and my eldest daughter was indifferent about, information that might be useful to someone, possibly.

There are a few nearby supermarkets in nearby Venlo. Two Brothers supermarket is large and has one of the most ridiculously large coffee, tea and confectionary sections I have ever seen, you can’t get to the rest of the supermarket without going though it, so make sure you bring blinkers and reins for family sugar addicts. 

Toverland amusement park is a great day out. There are plenty of rides and attractions to amuse kids if all ages, and loads of shows. It’s slightly cheaper to book this through the Center Parcs website than booking directly, we saved 20 Euros for our family of four.

Overall, if you’re travelling with younger children and are not reliant on the full range of usual Center Parcs services, Limburgse Peel is an excellent choice that worked out roughly 300 Euros cheaper for an equivalent stay at Het Meerdal. Good reis! (Thanks Center Parcs TV).

Great Parc for families with younger children.

This is not a top resort.  Buildings are grubby, not cleaned properly and shops are empty and 5 x the price.  Not all the rules are explained properly,  like recycling etc.  Some dog had crapped on the side walk to our house and it was just left.  I found these little things to be very disappointing. Duvet inners are not washed so please becareful this is a health hazard. Restaurants have 2* rating, not a place I would want to go and eat at.
