The Excelsior is welcoming, very comfortable, and located in a lovely neighborhood. Nearby there  are restaurants and shops just a few steps from the door. It is also a short walk to The World Forum where I had a business conference during the week. More than anything else, the host Ed is warm, thoughtful, and goes out of his way to help you with your needs. I cannot say enough about Ed. The Hotel is lovely and he makes it an experience you won’t forget. The breakfast is copious with ample servings of anything you might want. If you want an experience that is personable and makes you feel well cared for this is the place to stay!

Warm and wonderful

Visited in October for the rock and gem show. We arrived earlier than the 3 o’clock check in, but they had rooms ready for us, which was very helpful. The room was very large and well equipped. The minibar is well stocked and everything is €1, which is very reasonable. 
The bathroom was nice, but the shower wasn’t brilliant and the towel holder touched the toilet. However there was nice L’Occitane toiletries. The room was noisy, but it’s position is so central you have to accept that. I would have liked tea and coffee making facilities but there’s a coffee shop right opposite. 
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. All in all the hotel is very good and I would definitely stay there again as there’s lots more to see in Munich than we managed in our long weekend. 

Superb location 

My family of 5 rented two rooms here for a trip to see the tulips in the Netherlands. We were impressed with the size of the rooms and the comfort of the beds! Ed was very helpful and a really great guy. Breakfast is exceptional and he made sure we will were well attended to and threw in some special treats. The hotel is close to the beach (two bus stops) and downtown (near tram) with tons of cute restaurants and shops near by. We would definitely stay here again.

Excellent Hotel with Great Service

Excellent hotel.  Rooms a little dated but who cares.  Walk in shower None of this duvet messing - real blankets with beautiful white cotton sheets.  Lady on the desk is lovely. Breakfast is grand.  Highly recommend. 

Spotless quaint small hotel 

Went for business, although there are big hotels nearby. This nice, cosy place was a great find. very nice breakfast, rooms are clean and tidy, can't complain anything about the hotel. Host was very nice and kept in touch before arrival.

Close to the the World forum, nice, clean and very tidy with excellent service

The host was very welcoming, courteous and helpful. Breakfast was exceptional, with a variety of breads, fresh fruit and a boiled egg, all served at the table, which was a nice touch. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and was decorated in a retro style; the bathroom was quite small but had a good power shower. Nice neighbourhood with plenty of shops and restaurants, and a cake shop next door! There is a tram stop across the road. Good value for money.

The only downside was that it is close to a crossroads, so there is a bit of noise if you have a room at the front. However, earplugs ensured a good night's sleep.

Lovely, homely hotel

What the Hotel had to offer was good. My wife enjoyed the massage 5*. Outdoor pool.5*.Outdoor jacuzzi .3*,  Hard to enter and to set controls. Indoor pool.5*and jacuzzi did not try.  In general, nice Hotel.  NOW THE BIG NO NO. ....THE ROOM.  Well, room #114 to start. Extremely small. Night table lamp on and off switch did not work. Light only worked if plugged in.   Air conditioner blowing cold air.  No controller for heat or cold air.  Service desk said to block the vent on the floor with a pillow. This is a bit much. Asked to change the room.  Reply was no , you booked from Expedia.  We slept  in our clothes with blankets over us. Next day ,complained about the room and got another one. Well larger room yes. But why was it not done the night before. Oh you booked with Expedia. Did not complain . Got room 111. Thinking HURRAY. NO. This room was the same problem with the air conditioner.  FREEZING. This time I put 2 pillows on the vent with a chair on them to keep the freezing from coming in.  Another night of sleeping in our Clothes. The rest of our family were in 2 other rooms on the 2nd floor and had no problems.

Broken Thermostat .

We've heard reports that the owner is very friendly and engaging, and in fact he was kind enough to wait for us to check in until 9pm after our train was delayed on arrival. 

But the woman who was the weekend staff was not considerate at all. We asked that the windows be kept shut after cleaning, but arrived to find them open, and she didn't apologise but responded that at least the drapes were closed. She also was very impolite in the way she informs guests that the garden is for private use only. 

We were traveling with friends and were told that we had to give up the table that seats 4 people because a family was arriving and therefore they had priority. She couldn't think to offer a solution, which was simply to put 4 settings at another table. Breakfast is basic, but plentiful. But if you want any more water or coffee you'll never see the staff again. 

Conveniently located at a tram stop. 
Rooms on the street side are very noisy. 
There is no air-conditioning so the rooms get very hot and stuffy. Again, she could not think of alternatives, like a fan they had in storage, until we asked repeatedly for a solution.

We certainly won't stay here again. The uncomfortable environment will only encourage us to look for another option.
