It used to be a women’s prison and some of us were slightly confused to stay in the rooms which saw sorrow and cry. In fairness I must say that the staff did their best to please us whether it was a glass of champagne on arrival or a wonderful tasting of major hits of the hotel’s three star Michelin restaurant in the lounge bar. The location is also very convenient - within ten minutes walk to the town’s main square. But breakfast was the most frustrating moment, it was neither buffet nor a la carte - the waiters put on our tables kind of dish of the day, all meat, not bothering themselves to ask if we eat meat. All in all we preferred to have breakfast outside the premises because what we’ve got as an alternative to meat, hardly resembled morning bites. Michelin style breakfast is not the their strongest side.

Bizarre breakfast in a prison converted into hotel

The stay in Librije’s Hotel was truly a ‘Cherry on the Cake’ for our lunch at the Librije. The set-up for the room is excellent for a one-night stay and breakfast is extraordinary. We are now spoilt and have to get used to breakfast buffets again.

A festive weekend with my wife in Zwolle: of course in De Librije Hotel. Excellent service by staff member Marlou and the rest of the hotel crew: Never ending service by the entire team. Superb! A big thank you to make our weekend very special.

it really adds on to stay at De Librije hotel!

For me this is the best hotel in the Netherlands. The level of hospitallity is the best of te best. The standards are high but everything is done to make it comfortable for their guests. Beautiful rooms. Ans especially comfortable when you visit 3 Michelin starred restaurant De Librije. All under one roof. 

Best hotel in the Netherlands for me!

We booked a lunch, night and breakfast formula at the hotel-restaurant De Librije on Saturday 14 July. This is the first time we can say that everything is perfect even if - as far as we are concerned - our taste for decoration and furnishing are very different. The displacement is part of the stay. A charming young man arrives and immediately takes the keys to the car to park it, the suitcases later found in the room, an extraordinary cup of tea served there. We have a very nice ice cream joint that filled the forms, a small reception hall. The dining room is very young, very comfortable and a small restaurant. The dining room at the hotel is also a very nice place. The dining room at the hotel is very convenient, where you can enjoy a delicious dining room, but the dining room is very clean, where you can enjoy the delicious dishes, but the dining room is very clean, and the dining room is very clean. We have a very nice restaurant and a very tasty restaurant.

A remarkable experience

Food is without a doubt outstanding if you love fish. If you are into meat it’s not your best choice to go. Prepare for 5 dishes of fish and disappointing only one dish with  meat. There’s no balance or recognition of guests’ preference. Disappointing. 

Awkward 

We had to make a quick trip to Zwolle to drop our daughter at University there.  Knowing nothing about the hotel or it's reputation we booked at the last minute.  Unfortunately, we were in a rush and didn't get to really enjoy the hotel.......however, the rooms were very comfortable, the staff very pleasant and helpful, location ideal.  Also what we did not know, is the restaurant is the center piece of their hotel and concept.  We were told upon check in that there was no availability for dinner, which wasn't an issue because dining wasn't our priority, nor did we know the reputation of the restaurant. However, later in the day they had a cancellation and we were able to get a table unexpectedly.  After dinner we understood that the hotel is there for the restaurant!!  If you like fantastic food experiences and to stay in a lovely hotel, this place is for you. I will return!

Pleasant stay

It has been a while since I last stayed here, but to me Librije’s Hotel is still the best hotel of the Netherlands. The rooms are very comfortable and cosy! And breakfast is perfect! Love to come here again. That is for sure!

The best hotel in the Netherlands

Because the hotel is a converted old prison. Elements of it have been preserved, but not consistently perpetuated. There are many breaches of style, from gloomy to swollen to comic. Sometimes you think the Daltons should come around the corner. It all seems to be something to be desired. This is also planted in the rooms. This includes an open bathroom, as part of the room and from the rest of the room. Taste thing, I don't like it. There are places where I value my privacy.

A truly extraordinary hotel (old prison)! Great, nice staff! Super nice, comfortable rooms! Great location: within 3 minutes walking of the city centre! Very nice ambience! The breakfast is affordable at 39€ per person, as it really offers an exceptional, innovative breakfast. This should not be missed. Ideal even for a couple of weekends!
