The property is lovely and the sound of the nearby stream was very relaxing. The cottage was well-furnished and had all the equipment one would need for an overnight or even a long stay. The host and hostess were quite friendly and accommodations.

We stayed in the Gatekeepers Cottage, part of the main house, which was well appointed with good views from every window. We slept very well in the comfortable bed and woke to the dawn chorus. It was good to be able to wander up the fields and see the sheep and the vineyard and the views from the top. A short drive down to Akaroa village gives you all the shops and restaurants you need. The village butcher and delicatessen has a wide selection including delicious home made ready meals. All this is topped off by the warm welcome from Wendy and Mark who made sure we were ok and had all we needed. We must not forget Fergus, who was always pleased to see people. It was a good base to explore the Banks peninsular, Wendy and Mark's local knowledge pointed us in the right direction such as the Maori and Colonial Museum at Okains Bay.

A wonderful place to relax with friendly hosts

Kokopu Estate is just magical. My husband and I stayed in the Gatekeepers Cottage and were immediately won over by the warmth and beauty of this very special cottage. The wooden vaulted ceiling and the uses of recycled wood, tasteful art work and trinkets dotted around the cottage give it a very relaxing, warm and welcoming feel. The beautiful property lends itself to rest and relaxation. I can promise you will have no difficulty relaxing in this beautiful Kokopu estate. 
My daughter and her partner also stayed in Kokopu Cottage by the stream and were overwhelmed by it magical setting and adorable quaint cottage with all the comforts to inspire endless rest and relaxation. Wendy and Mark are wonderful hosts and only too happy to offer help when required.

Magical!

Kokopu is very lovely, tranquil and well-kept.  It's only a very short drive into Akaroa, or it could be a more vigorous walk if you wanted!  This means that you wake up to the sounds of bird calls, and you can wander around the estate and feel like you're really away from it all.
We were in the gatekeepers cottage, which is a beautifully appointed studio with ensuite that also has a separate lounge in the downstairs entry way.  The kitchenette is sufficient for cooking simple meals, but I wouldn't recommend preparing anything too elaborate because it's rather small. Shouldn't be a problem anyway, since there are so many nice places to eat in town.
We stayed here for a 4 day weekend and made trips out to the different bays on the peninsula. I recommend giving yourself time to explore Akaroa, but also the other parts to the peninsula.

Excellent value for money. We loved the open fire and cosy relaxed feel of the 2 bedroom cottage. It is very rustic and - for a city family- felt a little bit like roughing it. Yet the beds were very comfortable and the house very warm and dry. Apparently there's an outdoor bath but as it was raining we didn't do too much exploring to find it. After a week of lugging our luggage up and down stairs it was a relief to be able to park at the front door. 
The hosts live on site and are available if needed but otherwise left us to ourselves. 
There's a beautiful stream that rushes down the back of the house, providing a lullaby as you drift off to sleep. 
The only thing to warn you about is a strong potpourri fragrance throughout the cottage. I am sensitive to fragrances - headaches and nausea- and was slightly affected. Nothing that couldn't be solved by sleeping with the door open. 
We all appreciated the isolation of the cottage - just outside the town. It's a loveable quirky cottage, well and truly a rural experience. I hope to return.
