We (2 couples) had a 2 night stay at Oinako. What a beautiful luxurious place! We had views to the water front...our rooms were so tastefully done....The owners, Sabine and Gunther went out of the way to look after us. Breakfast was just superb...and delicious.. They recommended restaurants and even booked them! Champagne was waiting for us on our first evening! Gunther went out of his way to show us the hidden sites on our last day...It was truly a wonderful experience! Such a wonderful couple...We highly recommend staying here...Thank you Sabine and Gunther

Our Stay at Oinako

You’d be hard pressed to beat Oinako for quality accommodation, location and hospitality. The historic home is beautifully appointed with comfortable, modern rooms, views to die for and close to all of the action, to make Akaroa the perfect weekend destination for couples.
Greg and Teresa are the perfect hosts who have taken care to provide an understated luxurious experience; from the chocolates and cookies in the rooms, through to a pre dinner glass of wine, you’ll feel well looked after. Rooms are spotlessly clean, super comfortable and very peaceful and relaxing. We loved the hearty breakfasts, a different quality offering each day, prepared by Greg and sure to keep you going until the next meal. 
Highly recommended experience and easily accessible from Christchurch.

Quality accommodation in Akaroa

Fresh flowers in the room, lovely terrace with a view, comfy bed and a very elegant and tastefull breakfast, so no complains. Why not 100 % perfect ? Because in this old and well renovated house, there is not door to the (very small) bathroom - actually one sink with some storage room, a big shower and a toilet with a door,  Small fridge on first floor and complimentary wine. A nice touch.

A lovely house with big bedrooms and a homely feel.Our room had a fabulous balcony overlooking the harbour.

Hosts Greg and his wife were welcoming friendly.
Highly recommend staying here and we will certainly go back when we visit NZ again.

A great stay

We spent 3 nights of our near three week vacation at Oinako in Akaroa and it was without doubt the highlight of our entire trip.  The house is to die for and Teresa and Greg matched the surroundings with their wonderful hospitality and fantastic breakfasts.  They were genuinely welcoming and interested in our travel plans and gave us useful tips for our stay, including some we wouldn't have found in the guide books.  After our stay they even managed to find my sunglasses, which I had lost, and then couriered them to a subsequent accommodation on or itinerary - thank you, again.
We cannot praise Oinako/Greg/Teresa highly enough and just hope that one day we can manage another visit.

Excellent doesn't do it justice!

We stayed here for two nights in January 2019 recommended by two friends who stayed last year. We were greeted by our charming hosts Teresa and Greg who were extremely welcoming. The house is fabulous and has been tastefully restored after the earthquake. We had an amazing room with balcony and superb views over the bay. Breakfasts were first class and tastefully presented in luxurious surroundings. There was tea and coffee in the room with lovely chocolate biscuits, cookies and mints. There was also complimentary wine which we thoroughly enjoyed.  Greg was extremely helpful recommending places to see and places to eat. He even offered to drive us to a local vineyard when we decided to go wine tasting. If you’re planning a visit to Akaroa I would thoroughly recommend this place.
