Excellent spot, immaculately clean, warm, comfortable  and so well equipped.
Absolutely stunning view and just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a busy Easter weekend in Akaroa. Don’t want to leave but we will definitely be back!!! Thanks Mary you have been so great to deal with.

Akaroa on the Beach , stunning!!

Great location, easy walk into Akaroa. Bed was really comfy, and apartment had all the facilities we needed to make a great stay. Lovely view from the verandah. The host, Mary, was very helpful, and just lives upstairs, so is on hand if needed.

Great stay, lovely location

Quiet location with stunning views from the penthouse studio.  Clean and well maintained with lots of amenities.  Plenty of pots and pans to self cater and a comfy bed.  Parking on site very close to the entrance.  Washer dryer available if required.

Great stay

We just came back from two nights staying in the studio penthouse apartment and loved it. The apartment has an amazing view and comes with a bbq on the balcony. The kitchen is well equipped and the sitting area is comfortable with Smart TV if you want to indulge in a bit of Netflix.
It is a wee bit of a walk into town but we loved the walk especially after a big dinner. We will definitely stay again - you can really kick back and relax here. 

Great place to stay in Akaroa

After reviewing the interesting topography of Banks Peninsula from Google Maps, I knew I had to photograph the area's unique landscape. It wasn't hard to figure out with two extinct volcanos worn away by time and a bay sculpted out of the caldera that this location was a magnet for my camera. As I planned my trip, Akaroa's position on the bay with quick access to the nearby highlands looked perfect. The crowning research achievement prior to venturing from Cary, NC, USA was finding "Akaroa on the Beach" as my home for several delightful days. Similar to my brother's Malibu, CA condo, the one bedroom studio has lots of glass for bringing the outdoors indoors, including two tracks of sliding doors that I opened wide, blurring the distinction and allowing me to have the convenience of indoors with the beauty and fresh air of the outdoors. Less than 40 steps across a one lane road I flittered back and forth from the condo to the shore, taking gorgeous sunset and sailboat pictures. After a quick trip to the local grocery store, the kitchen with refrigerator and oven/stove was perfect for the small meals I made. The owner Mary had all of the convenient cookware items I needed readily available. Tranquil relaxation, a short walk to the lighthouse and town, close to a park with incredible bay views, and beautifully isolated for privacy with water/mountain views. Although this was a solo trip, I'm returning with my wife to share this beautiful gem!  

Sublimely Tranquil Location

We have been coming from Scotland to the South Island for 8 years now as my partner works on the Canterbury plains each summer season. We just love Akaroa and have been many times but this accommodation was the best yet.....just perfect for a relaxing break over the New Year period. We were in the penthouse flat which had its own balcony and overlooked the pebbly beach. The road outside was really quiet and only a 10 minute walk into town were there is a great selection of restaurants & coffee shops.
As various family members come to visit us we will definitely try and bring them to Mary's fabulous spot.

Ideal spot for a relaxing break

My wife and I had been touring the South Island for sixteen days and wanted to just relax for a couple of days before the flight home. Turned out to be Easter and we were lucky to find the penthouse available for two nights. Booked it immediately.
We stayed for the two nights at Akaroa on the Beach and found the accommodation, location and views just wonderful. We had the beautiful penthouse apartment. We were amazed at the setup and fittings of the studio/kitchen/dining/lounge/balcony area. We were able to relax inside or use the BBQ on the balcony while enjoying the view of Akaroa harbour. The house is situated about 1.5 klms from the village of Akaroa by an easy walk or drive. This was a wonderful end to our NZ holiday and it was only about a one and a half hour drive to Christchurch airport.
If you need a relaxing spot away from the hustle and bustle of town, you definitley should stay here.

Sit Back & Relax

This was a nice, relaxing part of our holiday - having done a massive south island trip a few years ago and wanting to simply relax in one place.  the location was just far away from the main part of town to make it super quiet.  we booked the beachside apartment downstairs and it was just what we wanted.  it was clean, equipped with most things and the Wifi was great to have too.

I was able to walk from one end of Akaroa to the other very easily - it didn't take long at all and was so quiet and safe even for a late afternoon to evening walk.  the views of the bay both outside the apartment and all the way around town was spectacular too.

With regards to cooking - be aware that there is a small convention oven, not a big one and a stove top.  during the week, the local grocery store closes at 6.30pm and the butcher/deli at 5.30pm so if you are planning on eating in - choose food that can either be cooked simply or use the BBQ which we didn't have time for.  And it isn't equipped with oil, paper towel for that etc so you will have to supply.  other than that - it was a great retreat!

a nice surprise is the small gallery literally two minutes up the road - Denise was lovely and her art and jewelry very eclectic.  If you are into local artists, visit!

a quiet retreat

Have come to stay at the beach side room for a couple of nights, lovely spot close to town centre. Nice and quiet with a great view and lots of native bird song. Facilities were good too. Would recommend!
