Private quiet room in character cottage in excellent central location.
Beautifully decorated in French farmhouse style. If you want a home away from home this is the place for you to stay. 
You will be left to enjoy you own private space.
Parnell offers excellent location to central city with good cafes and restaurants close by. 
Walking distance to Newmatket, Parnell shops, Auckland Domain and Parnell Rose Gardens.

Private Room in Character Cottage

The cottage was nice but the wifi did nit work. We tried to ask the host who said try  again and it will work..we definitely felt  like we disturbed her. Although is presented as a b&b doesn't feel like. I think there are many more options in Auckland (with better locations) so i don't recommend this place.

Nice cottage, but not much more. Disappointment!

Well......, we were SO DISAPPOINTED !!!
1st ..B&B with no breakfast ........it's extra !! not good enough at $215.00 per night !!
2nd.., the room and ensuite were TINY !! ......SO SMALL .....we had to go outside to change our minds ........
3rd.., the room was so stuffy as there are no fans and no aircon we needed to open the windows and doors .....unfortunately the mosquitos ate us alive ......there are no screens !
4th.., .....NO INTERNET.......forget HI SPEED ........ NO INTERNET !! and the hosts didn't give a s..t !!
5th.., parking is in the street and difficult if available and about 200 metres from the property down a shared driveway, access is difficult down a steep slope and inaccessible for older (+50 age groups) with luggage......
B & B ......GO ELSEWHERE !!!

Folks, here is the dark side of using airbnb or booking.com to book a bed and breakfast. You have absolutely no idea what you are going to get until you arrive. 

First, Dove "Cottage" has no parking. We (wife and I)  dragged our heavy luggage maybe 2 blocks just to get to the driveway (which was almost impossible to find), and then another 2 blocks up and down a long winding inner road to make it to the front door. 

The "cottage" is someone's home, and they converted 2 tiny bedrooms into rentals, calling it a B&B. Our room was so ridiculously small there was no place to rest our suitcase so we left it hanging on the bed, leaning against a wall. 

The bathroom attached to the room was the smallest bathroom I have ever seen in my life, about half the size of a cruise ship bathroom. The window had no screens so bugs were flying in.

The breakfast, which added $15 dollars per person per day was cold cereal, serve it yourself. No thanks! But the "hostess" tried to charge us for it anyway !! Thank goodness we were only there 2 nights, and also we are so thanksful there was a delightful café across the street where we could order an awesome breakfast, for less than $15 per person per day

Buyer Beware

It was clean. The bed was comfortable. Parking outside in the street was difficult as we struggled to find parking. There were no coffee and tea making facilities in the room and access to the shared kitchen was     not easy. There was nothing laid out and we had to search for cups and coffee. The kitchen could have been cleaner. Definitely not the what we expected from a B and B and overpriced.  

Disappointing and overpriced

Dove Cottage is an attractive property situated at the lower end of Brighton Road, approximately 12-15 minutes' uphill walk to Parnell. This property is probably best suited for those with a car, but parking can be difficult on Brighton Road (no parking outside the property).

The cottage is tastefully furnished and there is some interesting artwork. There are two bedrooms available for letting: one with an ensuite bathroom, the other with shared bathroom. Our room, The Tui Room, was very small indeed (the cupboard doors could not be opened fully as the bed was in the way). The bathroom was also tiny, with a very small handbasin (difficult for shaving) and a very small shower (no fatties, please!). The "balcony" was unusable. Facilities for making tea and coffee are provided but awkward to access. Shelf space is minimal. Despite the shortcomings, the room was attractive and nicely finished with high-quality curtains etc. However, the sheets and pillow cases had not been ironed!

We stayed four nights. At no time was the room serviced – a prerequisite for a Booking.com listing? My experience of B&B accommodation is that the room is always serviced, even if only to wash up the teacups, empty the rubbish, check the towels etc.

Our biggest gripe was the breakfast and kitchen arrangement. We were charged NZD15 per person per night for "breakfast", which comprised no more than some rather ageing fruit (replenished on day 3), cereal, yoghurt and toast (pre-packed sliced bread, although hot-cross buns were supplied on day 3). The table was not set, although there was a tray of jams, Vegemite and a very grubby butter dish and knife left on the table. We simply had to help ourselves. Again, my experience of B&B accommodation is that the host always provides breakfast in a rather more formal manner – admittedly, not always a cooked breakfast.

According to the website, "there is a shared kitchen to prepare a meal and a shared lounge to watch TV". However, the kitchen was dirty: the floor, fridge, drawers, cutlery etc. On day 3, we found a dying cockroach on the hob! This area needs a thorough cleaning and upgrading.

Our host had a Labrador dog, Stan, who was very friendly. The dog is not mentioned on the website listing. We happen to be dog lovers but there may be guests who do not like – or even have an allergy to – dogs. This should be disclosed on the listing. 

Overall, we were disappointed with this property and I question whether this should be listed on Booking.com. The breakfast offering and servicing of rooms fell short of expectations. In my view, this is an Airbnb property – nothing more.

I cannot recommend this property, particularly given the price we paid, which was in my view excessive. The breakfast charge was totally unacceptable.
