My friend and I stayed here for one night following a hiking trip so needless to say we were both very tired- this hostel was just what we needed! It was very homely and clean with a friendly owner, the other tenants also seemed very respectful. We both had a great night sleep and enjoyed sitting in the back garden to eat our breakfast before we set off the next day. A lovely little hostel in the centre of the city, would definitely stay again!

Quiet and cosy night stay!

A quiet and wonderful home-style backpackers. The hosts, Alan and Keiko, are lovely and welcoming. They also have a lovely cat that you hardly see. The garden is gorgeous, and the rooms and facilities well kept. 

I visited with 2 friends during the Christmas break and were fortunate to have the place to ourselves. 

Definitely recommend staying, and will come back again!

Quiet and relaxing 

Stayed here 3 nights with my boyfriend in a private room. Our room was nice, comfy bed and spacious. There wasn't many bathrooms but it wasn't an issue and they were all clean. Staff were helpful. A few areas to sit and chill out. Kitchen wasnt very big but they offered free tea, coffee and bread buns. The Wi-Fi was good. Opening times for laundry and kitchen weren't great. Location was fine, not much around but about 20 minute walk into city centre. It was quiet at night and they had a cat!

Nice homely stay

We have been there for two nights and everything was very nice and clean. 
The owner and all the staff was very friendly and pleasant. 
When we left the owner gave us some recommendations and maps for the trip! 

We can highly recommend you to stay in that hostel! It is very special, cosy and familiar.


Pretty awesome, cosy hostel

I only stayed at the Canterbury House Christchurch for one night and it was okay. It's a basic hostel but you get some free buns for breakfast which is nice. There aren't enough bathrooms though. Every time I wanted to use the toilet or shower it was occupied. After talking to other guests they said they experienced the same. 
Apart from that it was alright. The hostel had this homey feeling about it because it was a small one and it was clean.
