The room were I stayed was very noisy. There are people living in their vans just outside your room, opening and closing van doors all throughout the night, talking, etc. The security light also comes on and shines in the room. I got 4 hrs sleep then it all started again at 6.30 in the morning. 
Otherwise the hostel has a nice homely feel but if you are a light sleeper I don't recomend.

such a nice cozy place to stay with a massive outdoor area in the back. the hosts were super friendly, it was clean and we had a family room with the shared facilities. bathrooms worked well and were clean, beds were very comfy. everything is close to the main street.

Amazing Place

We stayed overnight just after Christmas 2020 and had a very good experience, very central, lots of bathrooms and a really good kitchen with very helpful staff. Central location close to cafes and restaurants, warm personal welcome on arrival

Very good place to stay in Takaka

We found this place clean and tidy with comfortable beds and well equipped kitchens. It is very centrally located, so in walking distance to supermarket, cafes and restaurants  whether you choose to eat out or cook. The host is genial and friendly. As many of the staff are Woofers (?), there often seemed to be new faces to engage with. Quirky and convenient place to stay.

Group bunk bed accommodation

Cramped, untidy and not very clean, plus our double room was a cabin outside so we had to walk through the garden to go to the loo  kitchen etc. Wouldn't recommend it- stay in Kiwiana up the road which is so much better and cheaper.

Just about OK

very nice place with 2 kitchen. spacious living room and a lovely terrace with numerous wood table. nice welcolme from the hostess. i recommand as places are seldom in takaka. beautiful garden and quiet .

the place to be in takaka

We stayed two nights and found this backbackers met our needs at a very reasonable price. 

It has two kitchens and more bathrooms than other backpackers we've stayed in. We loved the multiple places to chill out on the patio and in the garden, some with rustic wooden furniture. We found Alan friendly and helpful.

Annie's cannot be held accountable for the dance party thumping nearby for about 12 hours on a Saturday afternoon/night when we were there or the way some younger guests seem to think their conversations need to be shared with everyone else nearby.

The supermarket is conveniently situated nearby but closes at 8pm.

Good value

From the moment we stepped into the 'reception' piled high with wet shoes to leaving the next night ...this place was a disappointment. What wasn't  broken or worn out, is just plain grubby. 
My partner and I have had 3 glorious weeks in NZ South Island and we're looking forward to a stay in the Golden Bay Area. Apart from the beds this place rated well. 

Not now. We paid for a double room and were shown through the hostel out the back to a box; with worn carpet, appliances and sheets of a dubious condition. Probably clean. 
The toilets were at the back of the main house. So had to traips past several tents to get there. At night this flipped the security lights on, which would be annoying for the tent dwellers. The shower mixer was broken so it meant either cold or extremely hot water.
The kitchen is grubby. The result of just rinsing dishes vs washing them. Oven worked (yay). Wifi was patchy. Disappointed

Made my skin crawl

The 13th place I've stayed on this trip, the most expensive (tied with Fox Glacier) and by far the worst. Charging premium tourist rates and sporting YHA afilliation, but falling well short of either standard.

Cookers only 50% working. One of two bathrooms/toilets out of order. One of two kitchens with no working fridge. Loose fencing and roofing irons flapping all night in the wind. Really feels as if the place is being run into the ground.

Was 80% populated by long-term residents when I visited - which I normally find to be a bonus as there are more interesting, locally-infrormed conversations to be had. But with endless ukelaili practice all evening in the main lounge/kitchen and another pair yelling and swearing endlessly in the other kitchen (all in the presence of the owner/manager) there was nothing for it but to retreat to my room.

A very disappointing stay after a string of wonderful hostels, pubs and huts up the West Coast.
