I would not recommend this motel.  The unit is too small.  There isn't a mirror in the entire place.  There wasn't even a dishcloth.  The step outside was covered in used cigarette butts and the unit stank.  The door on the "wardrobe" didn't close and swung dangerously.  There was nowhere to hang a towel.  Yes - cheap - but frankly for what?  Couldn't sleep for traffic noise and we were disturbed by some random toothless woman beating on the door at 1am looking for Lionel.  She had someone in the car outside.  I suspect they were up to no good.  The whole experience was ghastly.

Classic Motel Hamilton - Don't stay there!

classic motel. Should be called crap motel. Was unclean, and dated. Got into our room and fridge was not on. Not a big deal but them found out tv did not work, was offerd another room to watch tv in...really is that it. Pool was closed. In general it was a dump and your better if sleeping in your car. Shower was dirty and bugs every where in the room. This motel needs to be shut down. If you see this motel just keep driving

Don't stay here

Down in Hamilton for the North Island athletics champs; didn’t expect flash as its relatively cheap. Our room was right next to the Main Street, and was very noisy.

Our motel room was very; very dated - we joked slightly nervously about the place feeling like the basis of a horror or gang movie! There were a lot of bugs around, to the point we went out and bought bug spray (and used almost half of it!)

 I kept my shoes on in the kitchen as the floor was an ice rink - so greasy! One of the three stove tops wasn’t working, and none held a pan straight (see image attached). Beds were averagely comfortable, although springs could be clearly felt through the double bed mattress. Stayed 2 nights (Fri-Sun), and the cleaner ‘forgot’ our room on the Saturday (even though I’d called mid-afternoon to request clean towels as the cleaner hadn’t been and we were soaked - was a very rainy Saturday!). Finally at 5.30 I reminded them again, and someone turned up and apologised. Offered a quick clean but we were exhausted and soaked - we needed a shower and chill. Given I’d already mentioned at 2.30 that the room hadn’t been cleaned it wasn’t really good enough. I asked if they would consider refunding in part for not cleaning and was told as they had offered later in the day, when we were back for the night, that wasn’t a reasonable request.

In this case, the motel is at the cheaper end so we didn’t expect the world, but I did expect better than this. Would definitely pay a few bucks more next time and go somewhere else.

A weekend at Bates Motel

To be honest I never write reviews or complain but this time I have to it was horrible experience!!!!! and service from the receptionist named BOB , but I am sure it's not his real name .

He wasn't professional at all and lie to myface about the swimming pool. 
I told him he can get people sick and the only things he keep repeating was no refund no refund bye.... 
He even lock himself to the office house and never came back to speaK to me...
I was making him realize it's sooo bad the swimming pool condition and he was saying it's happened yesterday....what???! Green like this???!! Over night. 
They didn't even consider anything to make a client happy.....VERY DISAPPOINTING AND BIG LIAR,I told him he should to leave a message and said the swimming pool are not accessible....
Well he was SO UNPROFESSIONAL 


Liar receptionist 

This motel is extremely dated, there was mould everywhere in the bathroom (no Xpelair fan provided), the furniture was very uncomfortable, some of the hot points did not work, there had not been any maintenance for a very, very long time.  The motel was not very clean at all, there were flies buzzing around, some of the dishes in the kitchen were dirty.  This whole place is very much in need of an upgrade.

We definitely would not recommend.

Don't stay there

Shocking. Absolutely shocking. There was burn marks up the wall and on the back of the draws. Disgusting and dirty. Avoid at all costs 
Cob webs hanging from the ceiling. The shower was mouldy and gross. Gross gross gross. I don’t know why people would pay to stay here

Don’t stay here

This place is in desperate need of a make over. Kitchen,bathroom old. Washbasin in bathroom badly cracked and cracks look black. Bed too soft, easy chair soft had problem getting out of it. They advertise Sky I did not have it. In back of guest info book was a list of costs if you damage something. a glas $ 20.00 ???? towel $ 25.00. If you mark your towel and they can't clean it you will be charged. Then there are charges for damage to bed, tv, chair, table etc. I have never seen anything like it. My stay was 1 night on a Friday and as Hamilton was almost fully booked due to tournaments they charged me $ 189.00 and next day was going up to $ 270.00. How  that  place can justify gthese charges is beyond me. Only positive, the place was clean.

Not coming back

A project for work has required me to spend 3-4 days/week in Hamilton, and accordingly work selected this facility, I can only imagine this choice was a price-based one, as the motel is about 30 years overdue for refurbishing. 

In the first week of my stay, a couple of guys staying in the room next to me asked if I'd seen the "Asian lady who complains about noise". Puzzled, I said I hadn't, but also that I hadn't noticed them making any noise. They'd been chatting outside their door at a perfectly normal level, something I couldn't even hear until I opened my own door. 

In the third week of my stay, it all became clear. A colleague had paid me a visit that evening, and we were finishing up our conversation while she had a cigarette outside my door, shortly before midnight. 

Out of the darkness, a fluffy white dressing gown-clad apparition loomed from the shadows. Looking remarkably as if she were going to stumble straight through us into my room, she stopped short just as abruptly and squinted into my face. She then advised us in no uncertain terms that talking time was over for the evening and that we should be in bed. Being a grown man, and noticing she bore zero resemblance at all to my mother, I asked if she was serious. She was quite certain that she was. So I let her know I wasn't a child. My colleague was rather nonplussed by the presumption that she'd be staying the night, and on saying so she was told she should have left at 9.30pm sharp if she were not. We were both also advised that we were not in our house, and that we were "making noisy". Note that we were having a conversation at normal speaking levels, there was no loud music or especially loud discussion. Once I informed Margaret that she was out of line, she slithered back into the darkness from whence she had first emerged. Needless to say, work was told to find me more suitable accommodation immediately. 

I've heard that Margaret the Manager still haunts that place to this day.

Haunted by Margaret

If your looking for a place to sleep for just the night then this is your place. Close to the shopping hub only 5 minutes down the road plenty of food outlets close by. Not a holiday kind of place unless your on a budget then this place is for you. My siblings and I had to make a trip back to NZ for a funeral so this place was a last stop before heading back to Auckland and hotels in Auckland was hard to find being so close to NYE. We had 2 2bedroom rooms as there was 7 of us. Plenty of space yes out dated but like I said it’s not a holiday kind of place.

Was good for the night

Right from the beginning everything about this motel was wrong. We stayed here for two nights and the first thing which worried us was cobwebs everywhere in the room. I guess the Housekeeping staff is outsourced here who does not even bother to apply a microfiber cloth for dusting the furniture. The carpet smelled musty and pungent. Found an empty coca cola can underneath our bed. The management needs to check the rooms before handing over to the guests. I am sorry to say but we will neither come back to this place nor will we recommend it.
