Really loved this hostel, the owners/staff were really helpful and friendly and easy going. Our room and bathroom was spotless. The shared kitchen was always clean. The fire in the shared space was lit and it was cosy. So nice and close to the shops and hot pools (about a two min walk). Would come back!

Cosy and lovely staff

It was an amazing experience only a five minute walk away from anything, the pools or the fairy doors. They have a big tv lounge on the second floor and a amazing lobby with a keyboard, guitar and a computer. The kitchen is huge and really feels like the amazing camps we went on as kids. I loved it and will come back again.

Slays

We booked this place online and found it easily on a corner very near to the hot pools. On arrival the path is surrounded by pretty, well cared for gardens, also a garden area with tables, chairs and umbrellas to relax in.

Reception was very quick and helpful and the room spotless and very pleasant, with free wifi that worked well.  The kitchen is large with plenty of cooking facilities, a large fridge freezer, and two large glass-doored fridges. It was cleaned frequently,  though sadly many of the users did not leave their spaces clean at all.

All in all a pleasure to stay here.

Really good place to stay!

From the time you arrive the first thing is the friendly welcome and the cleanliness from your room to the kitchen and bathroom facilities, the owners are super helpful. Staying at kakapo lodge is great value and all guests the we met were all like minded. The lodge is situated within easy walking distance of the pools and the rest of the town, it is the best value for money ever.

Amazing facility very comfortable

A great find this was!! Very clean facilities in great location with snow covered mountain views. The hosts were warm and friendly great service. Surprisingly big room with cook top, an extremely comfortable bed. Lovely welcoming fire in the foyer. Excellent all round.

Stunning village great host

Very cute little place, very cheap which was good for us as travelling students for the night. Very cozy, full amenities even though we didn’t use them. Lovely housekeepers, very friendly and welcoming. Room was super warm and clean, with beautiful view of the Hanmer mountain ranges. Overall lovely stay, close to town and hot pools - would love to stay here again!

Hanmer Kakapo Lodge

James and his family were exceedingly good  hosts! The lodge was clean and run with a relaxed air of efficiency! 
Beds were super comfortable! Heating was superb and the fire in longe was always on! Kitchen well equipped and organised brilliantly, urn always on. Probably one of the best budget accommodation places I have ever stayed at! I highly recommend!!

Best lodge

Great place to stay. Very friendly family run backpacker. They were helpful and friendly with any request I had. Comfortable beds, clean, well equipped kitchen, great balconies and numerous lounge areas. 

Only down side is they leave a lot of lights on in the unoccupied rooms in the day - seems a waste of energy.

Friendly and welcoming

Stayed with a friend for four nights in a room with two single beds. The matresses were perfectly firm.  The kitchen had everything we needed. Bowls, plates,  knives,  forks. Pots. Quiet, clean, friendly staff, fab setup. The event we attended at the very other end of town was a short 5min walk. Glad I brought my umbrella.
