A great night spent being welcomed by the locals and enjoying a lovely meal and of course great beer! 
Owners were lovely and made our night very enjoyable. Great local feel with some good kiwi laughs! Would definitely go back!

Excellent local hospitality

Nice genuine people and a fascinating district. The Dog, Pig, Chickens, and Goldfish made it. The rooms are tidy and comfortable. The hosts are warm and welcoming in their own unique way. True Kiwi accomodation, I've worse looked after in Hotels. Just don't turn up before 4pm.

Awesome old School Kiwi Hospality.

My wife really enjoyed the vegan flatbread and vegan chocolate cake.  I enjoyed an omnivore toastie with chips (french fries) and a mocha.  All for $25.50 (NZ).  We stopped during a visit to beautiful Hokitika Gorge.

Great Vegan Lunch

Same price as most hostel but much more cozy! Really friendly staff, nice room, comfy bed. A small kitchen with a tv and stuff if you want to cook (we did). Fast Wi-Fi, didn't reach our room with full strength but was better than most anyways! Really recommend it!

Double room

Stayed here for 1 night with my partner on the way to Franz Jospef glacier. Been travelling all day by the time we got there and as soon as we walked in we had a really warm welcome. The owner is a real character, funny, informative and couldn't do enough for us. Room was small but clean, comfortable, free wi-fi and there was a nice little kitchen and TV area we could use free tea/coffee and toast and jam in the morning or there is a restaurant on site. Showers were really clean and really good. The bar was great, really good prices and free pool table. Set in a beautiful valley 10 minutes from Hokitika, this place is the heart and soul of the valley. I will remember this place for a very long time, for all the right reasons and can't recommend it highly enough. Kind of gutted we couldn't stay another night, excellent value for money.

Proper Kiwi welcome, in a lovely country pub, brilliant

Very comfortable country hotel with interesting history, good food, (enjoyed the whitebait pattie the cook did especially) hospitable staff and mine host and a comfortable bed  at a reasonable cost 
A good place to be when the weather changes

Enjoyable stay. A refuge on a rainy West Coast day

We were welcomed warmly by the owner Grenville who made us feel at home and was fun to talk with. It was a very peaceful setting in a farming environment with chickens, horses and cattle. Cats and puppy were friendly but not always around which was nice. Room, bathrooms, kitchen/living area and pub area were all clean and well maintained.  Garden view from the bedroom window was pretty and smelled lovely too. Kitchen was a little on the small side so cooking large meals wouldn't be possible but pizzas from the pub were tasty so it wasn't an issue for us. Free toast and tea/coffee/hot chocolate in the mornings also justifies eating in the pub the night before.

Very enjoyable 1 night stay

Stayed overnight. Room is basic and bed overly soft. Very nice hosts and public bar area. Dinner only available on Thurs to Saturdays so take your own food at other times. There is an adequate shared kitchenette and dining / TV viewing room available. Best placed accommodation for the Hokatika Gorge or for fly fishing in local rivers.
