Great location, short walk to the beachfront, right across the road from the glow work dell. Loved the animals, little playground for the kids. Felt welcomed, cabins were lovely and had all we needed. Hokitika was a nice little surprise, would love to return to explore further, and stay here again.

Welcoming, homely cabins

Very well  appointed accommodation with awesome sea views to enjoy from the deck just a short walk to such a beautiful beach. The room was super clean with modernised bathroom, great kitchen and super comfortable beds. Very friendly and welcoming.

Great stay, superb location

We  stayed in an “A” frame cabin. It was short walk to the beach for sunset and across the road to see glow worms. Plenty of green space. Cute animals with clever write up in cabin information book. Could have easily spent another day here in Hoikitika

Great location

Units  a  bit worn,  and noisy heater,  so we used the back up heater we could plug in.  Had Wi-Fi problems ,barely connecting ,when asking if this was normal,was told my iPad must not have a good antenna.  Never had an issue till this stay at the shining star.

Friendly staff,but sorry i stayed here.

Stayed at the Triple Beachfront Room in June 2023. Room was ok but not much of sea view as the front was quite blocked.
The win for this motel are the staffs. Friendly and accommodating, always smiley and approachable.
Late night, we can just cross over the street to see Glow Worms. Magical sight you must see/do when you're here.
Hokitika town is a short drive away. Location is good.

Comfortable and convenient..

We had a great one night stay in November. We stayed in one of the cabins that is split into two. It was quiet and cozy. Had a great sleep here. Enjoyed the easy walk through the property to the beach. And walking across the street to the glow worm dell at night. Easy drive into the main town area, shops, and food. You could also walk along the beach if up for a longer walk. Check-in was easy and welcoming. Would stay here again!

Lovely Cozy stay in Hokitika 

I used to love this camping ground but now I’m just sad and confused. What has happened? Everything was worn out or out of order. No laundry possibilities, only one bbq had a gas bottle but it was filthy and other bbqs were mussing parts. Shower and toilet fasilities are unbelievably poor, only one shower for women and one for men. But the location right on the beach is marvellous! I sure wish the owners would pay a little more attention and affection to this camping ground.

Shining Star - not so shiny anymore

Whilst this isn’t an expensive campground , it was frustrating. The laundry was closed , yet 2 staff  laundry areas were on site but not available. Maybe allow access temporarily for campers? There’s 1 shower per male and female toilet blocks ( 2 total) and then 1 disabled , so 3 total for campsite. It’s not a huge place but with folks from chalets, powered sites and a few non powered sites they got overused and dirty quickly . The toilets ran out of paper, the kitchen was absolutely heaving at dinner and the next morning the toilets were literally filthy. 

It’s easy to walk to the glow worms , which was great. There’s a beach path to a grey sand beach but be aware there are trains going by during the night. 

Otherwise, a convenient stop point. 



Wanted to love it but…

Hooked up 6 birth RV on powered site for one night in Oct 2023.
Check in was pleasant and informative with good information on Restaurants in town and the Glow Worm Dell which is literally just across the road. Pricing is on par with most sites in the area.
It's about 15-20 mins walk into town for bars, restaurants and the iconic beach with it's Hokitika sign. 
The facilities on site are clean and work well and it's 1 min walk onto the beach which when we were there, was a windswept, dramatic landscape littered with driftwood. Stunning. 
If touring again, this would be our Hokitika choice of hook up. 

Great location for beach and Glow Worm dell. Ample, clean facilities. 

We highly recommend this dog friendly accommodation, with the beach at our accommodation's front door.  The whole unit was clean, tidy and well equipped and with a comfortable bed.  Plenty of spare towels, blankets if needed.  Excellent heating in all rooms. Everything (ie; all appliances etc worked very well).  When we arrived we were greeted with the heat pump and bathroom towel rails and lights on - all very welcoming and inviting.  The units were discreetly serviced daily.   Of particular note was all the usables - ie; dishwashing liquids etc were full - not "just enough for your stay policy" - a refreshing change in harder economic times.  Over all, we highly recommend this choice of stay.  The hosts and staff were very friendly.  Hokitika has developed a "go ahead" feeling over the last few years and definitely deserves more visitors.
