Alistair is a nice host. The place really needs a makeover - the decor is tired and the furniture could do with some TLC - the table our TV was on had wonky legs and we were scared to move it in case it fell apart!!. The pool is no longer available - we were told it is currently under construction - it is more like a pond for frogs - very sad because it would be a lovely outlook, huge asset and a wonderful place to sit and have a quiet drink after a day in the sun. The daily breakfast is nice but it is the same every day - suggest some variety or perhaps offering different ways for customers to have their eggs - not everyone prefers them fried.
Would have been good if the kitchenette had a toaster and maybe a frypan so that we could have cooked if we wanted to - there was only a microwave and a small fridge.
We were made to feel very welcome with lots of nice chats with the host.

Nice host

Ended up staying 2 nights at this B & B after we chose to book the Dune Rider out through the 90 Mile Beach to Cape Reinga and spent time sand dune surfing just off beach. Waters Edge B & B is walking distance to the local Restaurants even though we did drive one night to Ahipara which was recommended by the B & B to a lovely Restaurant looking out over the 90 MileBeach.
Their pool area certainly requires a makeover  & restoration but overall the room was very  clean, well presented, just a tad pokey in the bathroom area. Somehow our package didn’t include breakfast, which I find confusing for a “Bed & Breakfast”, even with that situation I would still recommend the stay, especially in the room near pool where we stayed.

Bed & .....?

Alastair have us a warm and cheery welcome for our one nights stay at Waters Edge and we enjoyed our, cooked to order, breakfast. However, we did find our room and en suite to be rather small and somewhat tired in places. Having said that it is very quiet so we slept well.

Warm welcome

We booked this b&b for 2 nights as a base for visiting Cape Reinga. The rooms are spacious, modern,self contained units, kitted out with fridge and microwave. We had the use of their swimming pool and deck chairs. Our host, Alastair, provided us with excellent breakfasts and gave us invaluable advice on visiting The Cape and local restaurants for evening meals. The perfect host. I would rate this venue highly and say that it represents great value for money. 

Base for Cape Reinga 

Roomy comfortable accommodation, great breakfast and accommodating host in very lovely surroundings - could you ask for more.
Given the location it is also quiet which meant an uninterrupted sleep. Definitely recommend.

Very Comfy Indded

Single room, had basics for bringing back takeaways for dinner. Breakfast included, (way more than we usually have!) , with other guests so it was nice to chat. Host lovely and clearly enjoys having guests

Overnight stay

The owner is a very nice fellow. The facility is comfortable & clean. However we had to ask twice to get the wifi switched on & although there is Sky available, it is just the free to view channels. No sport  or movies. We stayed one night but will not stay again. The place is hugely over priced

Over priced

The host was very accommodating even when we booked his place in such a  short notice. The room is big and everything we need are there. We had a full breakfast to start the day with for our trip to Cape Reinga which he booked.

Quiet place in a cul de sac.

The entrance to these accommodations is at the end of a residential cul de sac. On arriving we did find it a little hard to know where to go and who to see. We asked another quest and they pointed us in the right direction. The owner owns a few places around and he resided in the home next door to our apartment block. The main home is where you go for breakfast and you eat in a communal dinning room with other quests (actually the dinning room is the owners own dinning area). Once we located Alistair on arrival he took us to our studio accommodation. The studio was at the very back of the other units and had a large back area with access to the river. Alistair took of his shoes (and so did we) and gave us a tour of our accommodation for the next two days. The studio was very large with the (second bed room up stairs in a type of loft style). The studio unit had a separate room that you entered first before stepping into the main accommodation this area consisted of a long room with windows and it was this area that provided us with fresh cooler air at night. This accommodation was clean and fairly well equipped but sadly lacked fly screens on windows and curtains on the high glass panels above the kitchen and in the second bedroom on the top level. The weather was extremely hot throughout the day and it was imperative that you closed that curtains to keep out the sun but without curtains or blinds at the roof level glass panels this was totally impossible to achieve. At night there were mozzies and we found that we had to close all window in the unit, turn on the fans and leave the sliding door to the unit open...this sliding door lead to the entertaining area which luckily had screened access but alas the screen sliding door did not lock. But seeing how hot the nights were I had to construct a make sift tie out of a suit case strap to try and secure the door. Also if you do have the window in the lounge room open at any time be aware that the resident cat just may jump through the window. The highlight of this accommodation is the amazing breakfast provided by the hosts ...the first morning we had Alastair, his wife and daughter and they were nothing short of amazing, the second morning was another lovely couple. The breakfast consisted of cereals, toasts, spreads,  bacon, eggs and baked beans along with juice, tea and coffee and was perfect ...A1 in fact.

Big roomy self contained unit with two separate sleeping areas, a large well equipped kitchen, good size bathroom in a very quiet location.
Super friendly hosts and a nice breakfast to get you on your way for the day.
The host is first to admit that the unit is a little old, and it is. But everything you need is there, it all works just fine.
I’d happily stay there again any time.
