Really impressed with this accommodation. Helpful owners let us check in early as we were attending a wedding nearby at 2pm. On a hot day it was wonderful to find on arrival that the air conditioning was on in our room, making it lovely and cool. Also discovered some yummy treats. Very spacious room and large comfortable bed. Spacious shower with good water pressure. Quiet and peaceful with river and walkway across the road. Good off street parking yet separate from the rooms. Definitely recommend this place and would love to stay again.

Fantastic place to stay

ur family of three stayed in Tarawera River Lodge for 3 nights in early January 2023. Room number 3 has one sitting room with a single bed and a bedroom with a queen size bed, small separate kitchen and bathroom.
Accommodation is very quiet, we could hear the rapids from Tarawera river that's just steps away. Room was very clean, the beds are extremely comfortable (and new too), I loved the crisp sheets, they felt luxurious. Kitchen is fully equipped, we found everything we needed (except for a kitchen knife - we bought one in local New World supermarket). There is a new heat pump / air conditioner in the bedroom, large flat screen TV, WiFi, large storage cabinet, hair dryer.
Bathroom could do with an update, it was old yet clean. Shower has lovely water pressure and temperature.
There is an off street car park but luckily not right in front of the rooms. There are security cameras operating.
The hosts are lovely people, very friendly, nice and willing to go extra mile to make you feel very welcome.
We found this lodge a perfect spot to start our walks from, next time we will bring bicycles. This is a rare gem.

Rare Gem in a Lush Greenery

Myself and one of my friends stayed here a night before the wedding. It was a lovely stay with a lovely host, nice clean rooms and they were really comfortable. It's accross the road from a beautiful river walk and is close to town.

Lovely stay

The motel has been upgraded with nice furniture - individual touch is definitely noticeable.  The visit to the waterfalls and free thermal pools in the town was so eye-opening and relaxing.   Ask for the owners kayaks, the river is absolutely magic.

Nice Upgrades

This quiet motel with river and esplanade across the road was ideal for a business stay over. The new owner was helpful on arrival and appeared to have undertaken  some renovation in the rooms we had, no’s 2 and 3, with linen and blankets etc appearing updated.  There was a good sized flat screen tv, separate double bedroom, single bed and couch in the lounge, and kitchen basics. 
On the down size... everything was cramped! There was two of us in the unit and this was really one to many for comfort. Having a third person would be really uncomfortable. The kitchen was also tiny. Watch for the secret drawer containing cutlery.. we missed it the first night and owner needed to tell us about it the next! In a cupboard under the counter!
So all in all fine for a short work trip but I would upgrade for more space if I was working there longer or on holiday. 

Small and fine for a work trip

Quiet, within walking distance of Kawerau shops incl. supermarket, information centre and the free council thermal pool. Across the road from Tarawera river and walking trail (too fast for swimming, no houses blocking access), and close to the road to Kawerau falls/Lake Tarawera track.
Off-road parking a bit tight for larger vehicles if the disability accessible park next to reception is occupied, but there is more parking available on the road. Parking is not outside the unit doors but not too far away and access is flat.
We had a minor mishap where the motelier had left the key in the unit door for us as they had closed reception early to attend an end-of-year event and we hadn't received their instructions, but it didn't take long to sort out as other friendly guests knew what was going on. Staff otherwise very friendly and helpful.
We had a standard room further from the road, double bed in separate bedroom, spare single in living room. Very clean although some kitchen items need replacing from wear. Beds were firm but comfy.
Recycling encouraged, bins by the carpark. Shared washing line accessible on far side of units.

Lovely quiet retreat

Nice quiet motel, compact but everything that you need. Nicely decorated room with comfortable furniture. Car parking is available but and you could easily drive past if you didn't see the signs. Worth it

Heading home

Stayed here 2 nights and for the price was reasonable and very quiet area. Towels were grubby and stained. Bathroom cramped with the toilet too close to wall. Kitchen also very cramped. After seeing photos of other units maybe we got the worst one. 

Quiet situation but a little grubby

had the most comfortable stay, the host Lynn was very helpful & friendly advising us of the sights to see & do while in Kawerau. The rooms are very well laid out, modern & clean. The bonus was the beautiful meals from the new cafe Knives & Forks in town delivered to our rooms, we even had breakfast there the next day as the food was so tasty. All in all couldnt fault anything. Thanks for the experience in Kawerau.

Tranquil and comfortable

A really good combination, a quiet place mixed with flowing river and lush greenery, the motel give us a good feeling of a decent place to spend and take a break at the night. Spacious and clean room with double and single bed, comfy beds, kitchenette with complimentary tea and coffee, clean and nice bathroom, that's what we want for our overnight stay. Friendly Lynn, the Manager, make the guests happy.
