Probably the worst hotel experience I've ever had. We booked a family room which was basically a room with a double bed and bunks crammed in as nothing else available. The double bed was so soft I could not sleep in it. Clean sheets but room was dirty and smelly. I found a dirty sheet down the side of the bed obviously from a previous occupant. Noisy and smelly! We were woken about 2am by a fight either in the corridor or just outside the hotel. My guess is that this is transient or emergency housing use.

Next time I'll read the reviews.

The hotel is very centrally located (the only positive thing), it's old and outdated. Under my window, a generator was roaring all night, and there was noise from the street.

My worst night in New Zealand

Had a 2 night stay and was the worst decision I’ve ever made. Don’t waste your money on this disgusting place! Walls are paper thin, didn’t get a wink of sleep, bed was terrible and bathroom was unhygienic. Had to pay an extra $25 for a key to the room and didn’t get money back after handing in the key! Hands down the worst place I’ve ever stayed in.

If I could give it a Zero I would

Had booked and paid online mistakenly thinking it would be a cheap and cheerful option for one night.  I was very wrong.  Bar area was dirty and full of drunken idiots (shoes sticking to floor).  Picked up key and checked room.  Dingy and dusty.  Went out to partner and said no way.  I dropped off key back at the bar and took the loss of $90 as experience.  Stayed somewhere else.

Walked in and walked out

Wow... I would never recommend staying here. I would have felt safer sleeping on the street. Upon arrival, we went out to the balcony where my friend and I were immediately offered “a line” by some dodgy looking characters. There conversations consisted of smoking meth and fighting. 
We ordered food downstairs and the barmaid gave it to the wrong table (there were a maximum of 10 people in the pub). As we were in a hurry they gave us a refund though which was good. 
Later that night I was asleep in the room by myself (I honestly can’t believe I stayed there), there was yelling and partying going on in the other rooms. My friend returned back to the hotel and accidentally had left the key in our room so she could not get in. The barmaid cane up to let her in and then stormed into our room and stood their staring at me really angrily for 1 whole minute. We are certain she was on drugs! 

I think with the right management this place could be ok, but it appears they are happy with the kind of clientele they are attracting...

will defineately NOT stay here again not very hygenic bathrooms  and tea and coffee facilities very unclean  as was the fridge mould on shower curtains doors that would not close for privacy  dirty carpets and very steep unsafe steps that are poorly lit

Deliverance is back - do not stay here or be very scared and lock your room, but not all room doors lock.  Stay clear.
Wifi works in the bar, but not in the rooms.
Staff - one so drunk he droped our keys and couldn't pick them up to give to us, other not interested in the fact that the wifi didn't reach the rooms - quess he knew this but thought he was humouring a girl.  One of the most disguesting experiences of my life.

Do not stay here

Pros: good location/easy to find; good fast wifi in all areas; friendly staff; good shower pressure; free parking; good price; warm enough (heaters and extra blankets were included); tea and coffee included; clean enough; quiet enough (maybe we got lucky) 

Cons: reception was literally in the bar (rather awkward, eg asking for toilet paper in front of bar patrons); all rooms are upstairs and up a steep flight of stairs (issue arise with older folk/luggage on wheels); very dated decor (creates a spooky feel, toilet floor was mustard flower linoleum! Room TV was a box tv, although there is a TV room); zero housekeeping service (our room bin was tiny and overflowing by day one and never emptied); window latch was broken and no air con; view out our window was the roof of the bar downstairs; no microwave in the bizarre Closet of a kitchenette; bunk bed was extremely squeaky and wobbly; parking is first come first serve and entry/exit was difficult due to a high fence; shower was not draining very well at all.

Good enough for a night's stay

Attended this venue for a group dinner with approximately 20 other persons,
The staff were extra helpful and friendly and ensured we were all looked after.
What was impressive is how all the orders were delivered together with no one waiting for their meal, we were able to eat together. Not one of the group were disappointed with their choice.

I booked a night due to an illness and the proximity to a clinic.  

I was put into a dorm that had six beds, not five and to say it smelled moldy is an understatement.  

There is a rickety table and no storage space.  The balcony would have been nice had it not been choc full of drunk people.  

One of the blokes staying in the room invited a bunch of people over for a party which was very inconsiderate and rude.  He made me feel so uncomfortable that the staff member took pity on me and moved me into a single room.  

It is small and cozy but perfectly serviceable.  I should have booked this in the first place.  

The hotel is quite run down, but the staff is really nice.  The two front desk agents and housekeeper were all very lovely which is what gives this a higher rating than other reviewers.
