Fantastic place¹ to stay in New Plymouth

Very well located two minutes from the city centre and the beach. The reception is very friendly and convenient. Very well maintained, clean and well equipped with modern and recent furniture. The pieces are spacious.

We live in Lower Hutt and often travel north to the Waikato to visit family.  Now we are retired we generally make it a two day trip just because we can, and it's more leisurely to break up the journey.

We normally stay here on our way north, and this recent trip was no exception.

We normally have unit 6, it's a studio unit but it has a king sized bed (might even be a superking actually, it's really big) and it's very roomy.  There's a good wifi connection and the hosts are very friendly.  The room is always immaculately clean and sparkling.

Would highly recommend this motel, and we will definitely be staying here again on our next trip north.

Another great stay here

We stayed here for a night on a trip from Lower Hutt to Thames.

We have stayed here several times before, normally in room 6, a ground floor studio unit.

As always the room was immaculately clean.  The tv has a full Sky service so you can record stuff while you’re there.  Very handy.  The bed is very comfortable and there’s plenty of room in the bedroom/lounge.  A well appointed kitchen always awaits us, and there's lots of room in the bathroom.

We had another nice takeaway evening meal from HongKong takeaways, just around the corner in the same block.

The hosts are very friendly and lovely to deal with.

It was quite wet during the Monday evening when we’d arrived, but when we woke on the Tuesday morning we were greeted by a beautiful blue sky and sun, and Mt Egmont looked absolutely stunning.  Note the photos are not from the motel itself.  One is from the city south of the CBD, and the other taken out of and slightly north of the city.  A magnificent sight.

Highly recommended, we will be back on our next trip up north, whenever that may be!

Manager and staff awesome.
The units clean and well maintained.
We brought our e-bikes and excellent safe storage. We had 4 nights and would have extended if we had not had to get back home .  Can definitely recommend.

Trip to visit friends

 Cheerful and welcoming hosts (Warren and Carol) and staff. Really nice rooms. We've stayed in overpriced hotels with far worse rooms than The Dawson offers. Comfortable bed and everything is clean and tidy. Double glazing provides for a very peaceful night in. Easy walk to town and the Coastal Walkway. Loving our stay here.

A last minute decision to visit the FOL on the last weekend was more beneficial than we could have imagined. My wife, daughter and I were in a unit downstairs and my son and his family had a unit upstairs. Both units were of an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness and provided all the amenities we required. Location was great and only a few minutes to the town and beachfront. We were welcomed by the owner on arrival and immediately felt as if he wanted us to enjoy our stay. All the family agree the Dawson is a lovely place to stay and we will return as soon as possibly. THANKYOU.

Dawson motel is situated conveniently in the city, and easy to walk to the water, boardwalk and restaurants etc.  
Excellent motel rooms, with beautiful linen on the beds.  Huge bathroom, all quality fittings.   Warren,  the Manager was very welcoming and helpful.
I would certainly stay here again

Clean local motel

We stayed here for 11 nights, part of the time in a double room, the rest in a single while my wife was at a function in Stratford. We were impressed by the quality of the furnishings and by the very high standard at which the motel is maintained. The owners were very helpful. The beautiful sea front and coastal walkway are only 5 minutes on foot from the motel and there is a good take away just behind the motel. New Plymouth is a wonderful holiday destination with a wealth of walks around Mount Egmont and some magnificent parks. We would certainly want to stay at the Dawson on our next visit. This motel is justifiably very popular so early booking would be advisable.

Wonderful stay

We stayed two nights at the Dawson Motel. Everything about our stay was excellent, location, superbly clean spacious rooms and friendly helpful hosts. Breakfast was excellent and a very affordable price. Centrally located within easy walking distance to most places we wanted to see. Absolutely recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting New Plymouth.
