We had an amazing stay with Jan, Stephen, Emma and Ansel.  We took the TranzAlpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth and stayed two nights at the Breakers which was so lovely and peaceful.  Jan helped us organize a bike ride on part of the Westcoast Wilderness Trail and told us to look out for fungi--especially blue mushrooms--and we spotted several of a unique and almost unnaturally gorgeous hue.  Everything was wonderful about Jan and the Breakers from the delicious pizza dinner and breakfasts to the kindness and courtesy she showed us.  We were all terribly sad to leave and hope someday to return!

A Special Place

Recommended by our travel agent (NZ Fine Touring) the property was easy to find and we received a warm welcome by Jan our hostess. The property and rooms overlook a spectacular stretch of coastline, hence the name. We enjoyed a late afternoon walk down to the beach and relaxed for the evening eventually “lulled” to sleep by the sound of waves. Good nights sleep and enjoyable breakfast. It was a shame we were only there for one night

Excellent accommodation for a relaxing time with friendly hosts

We only stayed one night at Breakers and wished we had more time. There is more to do in the area than we realised. You will certainly enjoy a stay there. Our (purpose built) guest room was very comfortable with a wonderful ocean view. The beach below is rugged and beautiful; easily accessed from the property it feels like a private beach. Breakfast was great. The best thing about the property is the host, Jan. She is incredibly friendly and helpful; absolutely determined to have you enjoy your stay. She also is a magnificent and generous source of information to ensure you enjoy your trip to and from the property. We hope to return again to see the northern section of the South Island and if we do, we will definitely book to stay again at Breakers.

We had a wonderful time at Breakers Boutique Accommodation and Punakaiki coast region this March. Our host Jan was really outstanding in regard to hospitality, support and recommendation that made our stay a very special experience.
We can only recommend this place.

Great landscape, great accommodation, great host.

Breakers is a little piece of heaven and Jan is an angel. I cannot recommend it highly enough: I would give it a 6 if I could.

The room was furnished to an exceptional standard, the bed was big and comfortable (I slept through an earthquake!), and the views are spectacular.  The manicured garden contained a  path leading down to what was effectively a private beach.

Jan offered to make us pizza for dinner and served it to us on our verandah - delicious. She constantly went over and above what she needed to, to make us feel welcome and comfortable.  When we had confirmed our booking, she gave us loads of tips for our journey from Christchurch - every one a belter. 

If you are staying near Greymouth don't hesitate to book, you will not be disappointed. 

A real treasure.

As soon as we drove onto this property, we knew our brief stay would be a beautiful experience. The location of the property is drop-dead gorgeous and you are welcomed by the rhythmic sound of waves breaking on the beach.
We were taken to our lovely room on the 2nd floor of the main house.  The room was beautifully furnished and we had our own large, private bathroom.
Our balcony door opened onto an expansive timber deck with gob-smacking views of the beach below and the Tasman Sea.
The gardens were beautifully maintained and very peaceful, being the perfect place to sit and enjoy the views.
Our hosts, Jan and Stephen, couldn’t be more welcoming and accommodating. Jan’s knowledge of the area and of most of NZ’s South Island was impressive and she was very generous in providing suggestions of places to visit and things to do, not to mention her generosity in providing me with the recipe for her delicious jam!
Our only regret was that we only had 1 night at Breakers.
If you are going to Greymouth, do yourself a favour and book sometime at Jan and Stephen’s beautiful B & B. You won’t regret it!

A lovely piece of heaven

A little slice of Heaven on the West Coast!  Whatever you do, if you’re traveling the West Coast and need a place to stay for the night, don’t miss your chance for an amazing restful, stunningly beautiful stop at Jan and Stephen’s The Breakers just north of Greymouth.  You will feel like you’ve died and gone to Heaven!  Jan and Stephen take hospitality to the next level.  You won’t regret it!

Outstanding at every level!

We stayed at Breakers for a night on our honeymoon, and it was just as incredible as the photos and other reviews make it sound. The property is gorgeous, with beautiful ocean and beach views (see attached pictures) and surrounded by native bush. We stayed in the Breakwater room in the main house, which was spacious and comfortable, and we made lots of use of the deck, including enjoying Jan's delicious pizza while watching the sunset over the water. Jan also sent us helpful tips for our travels to and from Breakers. 

Long story short, we think staying at Breakers in an absolute MUST if you are in the Greymouth area, and we will definitely return if we come back to New Zealand. Could not recommend it more highly!

A very nice place to discover the west coast. Warm and kind welcome.
Great  sea view. Calm. Good cook and breakfast. Knowledge of the local. Possibility of a beach walk very close to the house.

The place to choose for a very good time.

During our tour of New Zealand we were lucky enough to be able to stay in Breakers near Greymouth for 2 nights. We lived in a very spacious apartment in the main house and the first view through the panoramic windows was overwhelming: "front row view" over the Tasman Sea! In just a few steps you can go through the well-kept garden to an extensive beach walk on the interesting coast.
The rooms were modern, very well and functionally furnished, the beds were very comfortable, very clean, the bathroom was really big, we really didn't miss anything and we felt very comfortable.
Jan is a friendly, extremely helpful host who values ​​hospitality in the best sense of the word. And she is a dedicated travel guide: from helicopter flights to the glaciers to the most hidden hiking trails, she can offer advice and recommendations and she even bases her tips on the weather!
The breakfast is delicious, especially if you can ask Jan for her pancakes.
