We loved our stay here.  Checking in was very simple.  The rooms were clean and tidy with a lovely decor.  The beds comfortable and we slept very well!  The location is a gem with a lovely seating area on the beach.  

Beautiful location

What a find. Didn’t book just rocked up and greeted by the wonderful Wanda. She was so welcoming and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and the beds were amazing. We were right opposite the beautiful beach with our very own chairs and fire pit which was only for the Motel visitors. Such a lovely way to spend watching the sunset with a glass of NZ Pinot Gris. Wanda popped over for a chat while enjoying the fire. Not a lot of eating places but just a 5min drive over the mountain to Whakatane there were lots of choices. Such a wonderful stay. Thank you Wanda.

Fantastic stay

Firstly, a great location and outlook - only the sound of the waves...

Great to have a generous-sized bathroom but at the expense of space in the rest of the unit. Fortunately I am not in a wheelchair as I would have trouble getting down the side of the double bed (which is also very high - I am average height for a man but my feet could not reach the floor). 

However the bathroom lacks the necessary safety rails  in both the shower and toilet (see photos) and T felt unsafe - needs rails on the two walls of the shower and a fold-out rail between the toilet and shower. Best planned before lining done in case extra fixing dwangs required but can be retrofitted... important that these are the correct height (see NZ Standard 4121:2001

More power outlets are needed and best if these are doubles...

Pet-friendly but not disabled friendly!

We stayed in the front unit and it has a spectacular view of Ohope Beach.
Went to sleep to the sound of the waves crashing and woke up to see some great surf waiting for me. Walked across the road and had breakfast at their private beach-side table as ths sun came up. Ideal.
The unit is so close to the beach we didn't bother taking our towels, just back to the unit, hose off the feet and inside for a shower-off.
Wanda was very friendly and it's great value.

Location Location Location

We had stayed here a few times before over the last nine years.
This trip we booked through wotif.
We arrived and were taken down the back to what I can only discribe as a converted garage that looked out from the bedroom onto a bank. 
The woman told us it was the family suite but as there were only the two of us... She locked the extra room.
I wasn't happy, it was not the queen studio we had had in the past, the same as the pictures we had seen on the site.
She told us we got the grotty by comparison room because we booked through Expedia!
She told my husband she could see I wasn't happy but we could have the room I believed I was booking if we paid MORE. 
I said forget it. We unloaded into the room, I was fuming, then she turned up & told us she had done some juggling and we could have the queen suite at no extra cost... Probably long enough to see my other reviews. 
She lied, she told us we were in the family suite & when I said I booked a queen suite she said it was a queen suite. 
She said they were fully booked but managed to juggle things so we could have the other room. Rubbish, the no vacancy sign never went on in all the time we were there & the grotty room wasn't used, there were other queen suites not used & yes we checked. 
We went out & our room was entered and a window that could be easily accessed from outside was opened risking our belongings, the only "servicing" that was done was the rubbish bag that had a couple of things in it was removed. 
The price has dam near doubled since our first stay but apart from converting a garage nothing has been done. The lounge chairs were dirty. 
Don't bother. It's 6km to Whakatane, stay there.

Never again

We spent the night on our way to the East Cape and had a really nice night. Really great location, just across the road from the beach.  Our unit was clean and well outfitted with everything we needed.

Lovely motel in an excellent location

Just stayed for two nights but a lovely clean motel well located straight across the road from the beach. We took our bikes and it’s an easy ride to the shops and cafes. Nice and clean and very friendly host. Really nice and friendly cleaner very helpful and told us the best spots to visit 

Great spot 

Wifi was useless we tried to ask them to fix it but they didn’t know what to do, heat pump remote didn’t work, was a massive drama trying to get it fixed. Picture fell off the wall, beds were uncomfortable. Looked presentable when walking in. Not much privacy. Looked like there was only one staff member, and we had to wait on arrival. they were super busy obviously didn’t have their priorities straight, nice people but overall was ok, but probably won’t do back here again.

Not very good

Can't fault the place. Superb location, great rooms, shower had good pressure, garden patio was a bonus. Was pleasantly surprised :) clean and well maintained property. Highly recommend and will be back.

Great locale

We had a lovely 2 night stay - far too short!  The motel is clean and comfortable and the BEACH IS ACROSS THE STREET!!!  Friendly owner who welcomed us and our dog - who enjoyed playing with her dog Shortie!   
We had a relaxing stay and will be back. Recommend highly.
