My wife and I have just enjoyed a wonderful two-night stay at Kowhai Rest with amazing hosts Kevin and Vicki. Lovely comfortable bed with or own lounge, spotlessly clean, fabulous breakfast every morning, including top coffee, all wrapped up with their great hospitality. Loved just chatting with them and learned a great quick orange cake recipe from Vicki, she is a whiz in the kitchen. The lovely grounds, the fruit trees, the livestock all add to a memorable Opotiki experience. We can thoroughly recommend it

A blissful stay in Opotiki

We stayed in the Pukeko room that had everything we wanted.  Kingsize bed was very comfortable.  Separate bathroom facilities had everything we needed and there was always hot water for showers at any time of the day

I had the weka room which was very comfortable.  A large bed for a great nights sleep.
Overall a great place and wonderful hosts.  A variety of animals to see.  Well provided meal.  First class linen and bathroom facilities

Quiet restful place

Set on some open ground on the edge of Opotiki township, Kowhai rest is a delightful place to stay if you want to break a journey in the Opotiki area.  A bed and breakfast, you will be hosted by friendly hosts Vicky and Kevin and made totally welcome in this place.  There are three bedrooms with two doubles and one twin bed room, all well set up and comfortable.  A separate lounge is available for guests but your hosts will happily share their lounge as well if you want to be sociable.  A great place to stay and far better than motel accommodation in the vicinity.  You won't be disappointed.

Opotiki Accommodation Delight

Vicki and Kevin could not have been more gracious hosts.
Attentive and friendly, so welcoming into their home.
Beautiful situation which you would think arriving on a street in Opotiki, but turning round the drive onto this stunning little block of country bliss.
The garden erupted into an array of summer colours with hidden fruiting trees and vegetables I didn't fully appreciate until Vicki kindly showed me round, being a bit of a new gardener myself, I thoroughly enjoyed it with a nice side helping of hints and tips about what thrives here in NZ.
I cant imagine it is routine treatment, sorry, but Anna (the other singleton guest) and I were treated to wine and biscuits and cheese watching the sun set over the hills and cattle in the background. The chickens and goat are hidden round the back, and despite being right next to them myself, not a whimper to disturb me.
Vicki and Kev advised they are relatively new to all this, but it is clear a great deal of thought, attention to detail and passionate intent on pleasing and providing guests abound.
Breakfast was a wonderful array of everything you would expect, including a selection of tasty coffees (my priority).
I also got some tips on what else to see locally as well as continuing on my travels south. They could not be more helpful.
Wonderful stay, highly recommended.
