This is a motel in the tiny village of Omarama facing the mighty mountains. Check-in was effortless. All the staffs were very friendly and helpful. A couple of gentlemen helped us in transferring our luggage upstairs (there are no lifts in this motel). The rooms are dated but spacious, very clean and have the basic amenities. Importantly, they have room heaters in the bedroom and in the bathroom and a heated towel rack, which was a blessing in the cold weather. However, the shower in the bathroom was very unsatisfactory; it was just a trickle of water. The coffee maker provided was not working. The food provided for buffet dinner was surprisingly good but the breakfast was very simple and disappointing. What stands out in this basic motel is the outstanding service. This hotel will serve as a good starting point if you are exploring the mountains. 

A motel with basic amenities and excellent service. 

Heritage Gateway Hotel is a nice 2 story motel in Omarama. My room, on the ground floor, overlooked the parking lot and had a fridge, kettle, table and chair and toiletries. No a/c so the room was a bit stuffy in April. The room was large and clean and I like that there was a towel heater rack in the bathroom. The food at the hotel’s restaurant good as they served lasagna, fried fish, beef, lamb and veggies. There was chocolate mousse camel, pavlona and ice cream in individual cups for dessert. The hotel was perfect to see the stars; unfortunately our evening was cloudy and we didn’t see any. There are hiking trails near the motel that head toward the mountains.


nice motel for a quick stay

A basic motel with lovely and friendly staff. Rooms were very quiet unless someone wae talking directly outside your room. Beds had old springs but linen was clean, as was the bathroom. Showers were hot with good water pressure. Both the heater and fridge were quite loud

Basic motel suitable for most 

We were on a Riviera tour of New Zealand when we stayed at this hotel. They did inform us that it was basic and it was. 
The rooms consisted of a double bed and a single bed. No wardrobes, but a table. The place is definitely in need of a refurbishment. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was clean and fresh.  This is the sort of place that tradesmen stay at. There probably is not a better place to stay than this in the area. 
Where it does excell is in the buffet meal that it provided us with. The food was very tasty and all freshly cooked. The only vegetarian was pasta which was very nice. The was plenty of freshly cooked veg which was lovely. Also the only hotel that I stayed in that did a glass of Moscato Wine. The price of the food and drink was very reasonable. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. 
Breakfast was not a huge choice. There was hot and cold buffet. It did not have the choice that other hotels had. What it did do was nicely cooked and fresh food. It  isn't the sort of place that I normally stay in but it did the job for a night. 

We were told this would be basic and it was apart from the food which was lovely.

stayed here overnight, room very comfortable, although bathroom and bedroom a little dated. very quiet despite being on a main road. the lovely laundry lady was so helpful to me, to use the washer dryer.

great location

This is a modest hotel with an outstanding staff!  We arrived on a bus tour and had a bit of a time crunch.  The staff, especially Meghan and Sally?, went above and beyond to accommodate our needs.  They called to change our time at the hot tubs, made sure we got in to eat dinner early and even offered to drive us down  to the hot tubs even though they were swamped.  Any hotel could take lessons from the staff here on what hospitality should look like!

I called this motel to find out cost and availability, which cost was a ok price for our budget they also had availability, I asked could we charge our ebikes as we’re cycling the A2O the receptionist said to me she was unsure and would call me back, 3hrs later I still hadn’t heard back so I made another back to her, she still didn’t know and really didn’t care, very disappointed indeed, so we booked somewhere else more expensive that actually wants our business, I’m shocked that some businesses are struggling for business obviously not this one, sorry but I certainly won’t be supporting you any other time with a staff attitude like this, I’m sure someone would love your job

Don’t bother phoning this motel there not accomodating at all

Check in was very quick and efficient. We had 2 motorbikes and the lovely lady on reception was very accommodating and suggested we park undercover by the reception door (which saved a frosty seat the next morning). She also gave us the wifi code and I must say the wifi was awesome!!! 
Our room had 2 beds, queen and single. It was quite dated and was pretty cold, especially after a day on the bike. We cranked up the heat and it warmed up nicely (albeit slowly). We did have the heater in the room as well as the bathroom heater on well into the night.
The bed was a bit roll together but cosy warm and was nice and clean.
The bathroom was nice, again, dated, but clean.
The room was quiet throughout the night and we had good sleep.
I would definitely stay again as it was good value for money.

Good

We enjoyed our stopover here. The room was clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The dinners in the restaurant were delicious, and large, which was appreciated after a very long day of cycling. All in all, the Heritage Gateway ticked all the right boxes for us.

We booked a couple of weeks in advance as a stopover for the Alps 2 Ocean bike ride.

We asked to have a room at the back (were told they would see what they could do) and booked to have dinner in the restaurant (that was ok and they’d sort out something vegan for us)

Now I get that a lot of the larger motels are struggling post covid.....

When we arrived, despite the rear being completely empty, we couldn’t have a room there. Instead we had to be at the front. 

Despite being enticed by a restaurant and bar (we’d cycled 80km), it was shut and no one told us either in advance or on check in.

At 3am (not the hotels fault), someone started unloading vehicles from a trailer right in front of the hotel for the best part of an hour which complemented the passing night trucks which ran, through the night. 

In short, despite it obviously being unknown times for staff, nothing is done for the benefit of the guest, everything it seems done for the benefit of the owners.
